Rights Won't Go Up

Postby Arumdaum » Sat Feb 26, 2011 1:58 pm

As much as I try, my civil rights or political freedoms won't go up. I've been keep answering issues to get these up, but when I answer them, nothing happens, and they just stay the same. But when I do something that would lower them like not letting corporations donate to political organizations, my political freedoms drop by 5 points.

Does anyone know why?

Oh, yeah. That's a bug in the game, that one. Otherwise, issues sometimes have contextual effects, based on the situation of your nation: it may be that something else is stopping your political freedoms rise.

If I offer criticism on your proposed issue, I will often write in red: don't think I'm being aggressive, it's just a convention I use!
If I ask a question on a proposed issue thread, then it's because I feel it's one you need to ask of your issue: I'm being Socratic and/or lazy.

Well, in the example you provided, it's because you're telling corporations that they don't have the political freedom to donate to political organizations, so it looks to me like that issue choice is working exactly like it's supposed to.

Woops! I'd been thinking about it the other way round. Maybe you just don't understand political liberalism? :P

Not that, but it's that all my rights won't go up at all, I'm letting kids smoke in public places, letting free speech have no exceptions, and all these things, but my civil rights just stays the same, and when I answered that one issue, it went down really easily.

I knew it was supposed to go down, I'm just complaining on how it won't go up at all but that it gets downed really easily.

Well, at least the free speech one would only affect political freedoms, not civil rights. As for smoking...maybe the effect was negligible? Although it's now easier to see negligible effects using the graphs function.

That's what I was talking about, the only thing my graphs do are go down. After the issues I've answered are gone and I get new ones, they just stay the same.

I think it is cos your nation is quite old and the older your nation gets more issues you need to answer to alter the parameters..

Sometimes it takes a while for issues to have an effect.

It's takes a lot of effort with issues to get and maintain a large number of political freedoms. There seems to be, though I can't tell you which one does what, some issues have bigger impact on your Civil Right, Political Rights and Economy than others. You may also be shooting yourself in the foot by answering issues with a more moderate option than what would really increase your political freedoms.

EDIT: I've maintained a Left-Leaning College State almost continually since I started at NS, so it could just be the way you answered the questions when you first created your nation.
