Eh, at least an honorable mention, I guess.

Added 1135. Congratulations, Sacara. :)

Now... what could 1132 be? (Or 1112 for that matter... seems like numbers ending in a 2 tend to be significantly more difficult to find #1122 #1032 #1042 #Zwangzug)

I believe that #1112 is for nations that drug their water supply. Evidence of #1132 is scanty so far, though I've seen a lead or two.

Well, I was going to say I figured out what the next issue (probably #1136) is, then I realized it's yours!

Co-authored, though, so congratulations to Yotongrek, I guess.

I wonder what the validity is, since it's showing up on capitalist nations that haven't recently answered #705...

Y'know, I actually had a dream this one'd be accepted.

Course, it was accepted as #1134 instead of #1136, but still, that's kinda neat.

So, uh, yeah, it was decided that "high business regulation" was just the better criteria in the end. :P

It can't be #1134, unless the issue currently listed as #1134 is misnumbered.

Okay, so it's #1137. Guess that settles that.

#1137 A Really Sour Lemon

The Issue

While walking down the street, you notice a lemonade stand consisting of a few cardboard boxes, a pitcher of murky yellow liquid, and a crude rendition of lemons wrought in yellow crayon on paper. Taped to one of the boxes is a prominent notice from the local government, which states that this venture was closed for not meeting standard economic, health, and safety regulations.

The Debate

1. A small, plucky child approaches you while holding a yellow drink and a sticky cash jar that is labeled 'Property of Dixie.' "Do you want some lemonade? I'll gladly give you a cup for free!" She looks forlornly at the government notice. "The big scary man who shut down my stand said I can't sell lemonade anymore. He said something about healthy safety reg... reg-yoo-lay-shuns. But I always use a strainer to fish out the bugs... honest! Can me and my friends please sell things again?"

2. "Ahah! I'm glad I caught you, @@LEADER@@," shouts sharply dressed bureaucrat Jabulani Garrison while removing a copy of the Compendium of Fruit-Based Beverage Sales Regulations: Volume 8 from his briefcase. "The owner here has failed to comply with our public health policies, the stand itself could collapse at any moment, and don't even get me started on the irregular lemon juice to sugar ratio! For our laws to be fair, they must apply to everyone. The Lemon-Ade Corporation certainly has to comply - why should it be any different for the kids?"

4. "Don't be such a sourpuss; it wouldn't kill you to buy one of these, y'know," suggests random bystander Monica Mealor, swiping the lemonade out of the kid's hand. "In fact, I don't see why children should get special treatment. As long as folks aren't making a buttload of money off of somethin', people of all ages should be able to sell products unregulated! And while you're at it, maybe ease off of some of the other million business regulations that are throttling the free market." She takes a sip from the lemonade, chokes, and stumbles backward into the cardboard boxes with enough force to smash them.

Okay then. #1136 is about politicians and money. #1132 is about housing, but I suspect a broken validity.

I generally don't look at the older issues, but came across this one which has different options to what you have listed in the index:

48: Give Us Healthcare or Give Us Death!

4. “A universal healthcare system is a core tenet of socialist society,” says Communist Party ideologue Nosipho Ebert. “Sure, taxes would probably have to increase a bit. But isn’t it worth it to provide our noble workers with good healthcare, free at the point of delivery?”

5. “Are you all INSANE? This will drain the coffers of the State!” argues Wil Looney, of the La Sola Island Funds Disbursement Council. “If the wealth of the people is wasted on a bloated and inefficient health service, the nation will be detrimented. The government should investigate the motives of these troublemaking ‘protesters’, instead!”

6. “Why do we have to choose either radical option?” asks Senior Party Representative Bruno Shiomi. “Couldn’t we just provide very limited basic healthcare for the majority of our citizens and have more comprehensive care as a perk from advancing within the Communist Party hierarchy? It would be more affordable, and all would aspire to better themselves.”

I probably should check out other issues I get a bit closer with this nation I guess.

Interesting. It must be a very recent change - according to my program, that issue was previously given only to capitalist nations, and in fact it hasn't spotted any socialist nations answering it yet (although I suspect the effect lines are probably the same).

If you suspect a broken validity, you know where to check at this point. We can't really chase around every thread, in case there's a change that needs to be made buried there.

As it was, you don't need to in this case. It needed one tiny tweak, which I have made.

It looks like socialist options were added 1 year 293 days ago. They're not chosen very much.

It's been a pleasure to work on that one; Glad to see Yotongrek's work not fade away in the abandoned drafts sector. :)

#48: Huh. So that's neat.

Please do let me know if a) any effect lines are different, Trot (if you can), and b) if there's a co-editor.
Updated NSIndex, onto work with my list. :)

I dismissed 48 with this puppet, as I wasn't sure any of the responses would raise my HDI (I'm keeping it as low as possible), so I can't confirm the tag lines. Sorry about that.

Not too different to option 4, but 1071.5 is as follows:

“Our cities will be dead in the water,” laments the Minister of Transportation. “But we have an opportunity here. Since we no longer can rely on our river, we finally have good reason to improve our transport infrastructure. We can have new railway lines, and... new upgrades to our highways! And a rolling highway! A rolling highway would be cool!”

#1,138: Shock Tactics [Candlewhisper Archive; ed:Candlewhisper Archive]

The Issue
The @@DEMONYMADJECTIVE@@ Resuscitation Council has noted that every year a vast number of preventable deaths occur because of lack of access to public AEDs (automated external defibrillators) and a dearth of competent first aiders able to use them.

The Debate
1. “Put an AED in every bus stop, every train station, every supermarket and next to every ATM. Make first aid training mandatory in the later school years, then make people refresh their skills every ten years,” directs Dr. Harambe Plantagenet of the Resuscitation Council, sipping his double-cream double-shot cappuccino. “Nations with poor access to AEDs have cardiac arrest survival rates of one in twenty. In nations with good access and training, three out of four patients will live. That’s got to be worth a little investment, right?”

2. “That sounds overly complex and expensive, a bit like the good doctor’s premium beverage,” argues dietitian Fatima Webster. “Personally, I like my health policies like I like my coffee: cheap and fast. Or was that how I like my men? I forget... Anyway, public health promotion is a smarter option. Prevention is better than cure. Restrict salty and fatty foods, and encourage healthy eating. That’ll hit the spot really efficiently. Like a good coffee. Or a good man.”

3. “Health spending is a black hole,” moans tired-looking health economist Stan de Groot, sipping at a plastic cup of nasty-smelling instant coffee. “If you help people live longer you just get older people with even more expensive and complicated medical problems. A good heart attack stops the oldies from being a burden on the economy. We ought to slash healthcare funding, and instead subsidise industries high in profit and saturated fat, then head out for an ice cream smoothie. Life’s too short! Or rather it isn’t, and that’s the problem.”

Found CWA's latest self-edit. :) I left all the names as they appeared because I few seem unrandom.

Nope. I'm not going to remember that.

As a designer I would suggest a button (or similar) on the issue page that says 'Report Problem' which pre-populates a new post in the board you've noted above. Otherwise in the future I'm not going to bother having to wade through the forum index reading every little tiny font description trying to work out where the F I have to let someone know when in my mind I'm wondering who doesn't get the concept of programmable device.

I mean, it seems someone went out of their way to note who wrote the issue in the first place. That's nice vanity but really, who cares? Imagine buying a litre of milk and down the bottom corner is says, "Cow milked by Max Barry" You'd think that was neat, once. Perhaps change it to a button that says, "Info/Report". A page that shows the origins, the code and a place to report the error. Future views can note a problem has been lodged. For the issue editors you get a nice list of problems that you can work through rather than clunky ol forum posts.

Try not to take it personally. I'm just an old cranky programmer. I don't know what tools you have behind the scenes. Using a forum post system feels a bit 1980s to me.

I mean, they could try to do that, but the current system is working, so why change something if it is not broken? Though I admit, a compiled list of issues (pun intended) for each of the issues will work nicely, and you can see which issues have problems a little bit more quickly.

With that said, I can take the liberty of reporting it, provided the issue come to me in the first place.

Though this is not discussion relevant to this thread, so I will just stop here myself. :?

Feel free to make that suggestion in the Technical forum. However, the admins are rather busy with other things. It's unlikely that they would reinvent the wheel when we already have a functional forum-based solution for reporting problems. The benefits of creating an entirely new reporting function are unlikely to justify the time investment.

Issue #1139: A Little Wrestling, a Lot of Controversy

The Issue
A dwarf wrestling tour was cut short after advocacy groups complained that it was demeaning.

The Debate
“Just look at this!” fumes three-foot-tall disabled rights activist Marjorie Christensen, waving around a poster that you can’t see for the top of your desk. “This isn’t a sporting event; this is a modern-day freak show. It even says they have a ‘midget toss’! I know the wrestlers agreed to participate, but they aren’t the only ones that have to live with the dehumanizing stereotypes. @@NAME@@ shouldn’t tolerate entertainment that pokes fun at people for their size or disabilities.”

Suddenly, a diminutive wrestler in brightly-colored spandex hurtles toward you, landing on your desk and knocking all your papers onto the floor. “Ha! What fun is life if you can’t laugh at yourself?” she says, as she rolls to her feet. “Maybe wrestling isn’t for everyone, but it’s a lot better than being unemployed or having some boring office job. We wrestlers are celebrating who we are - it’s not up to you to tell us what we can’t do. Instead, why don’t you give us some support and let us show everyone what we can do?”

“You’re all thinking too small,” slobbers creepy endocrinologist Dr. Silvio Jekyll, leering down over the head of the wrestler and gesticulating erratically. “You’ve got to look at the big picture. We wouldn’t have to worry about any of this if we had a cure for dwarfism, right? Well, I’ve just made a huge breakthrough in hormone treatments that would allow all these people to grow to a normal height, instead of being freakishly small. All I need is some funding to make my project a reality. Yes, that’s all...” He cackles maniacally, though it’s not clear what he is finding so funny.

<ol class="diloptions"><li><p>&#8220;Just look at this!&#8221; fumes three-foot-tall disabled rights activist Marjorie Christensen, waving around a poster that you can&#8217;t see for the top of your desk. &#8220;This isn&#8217;t a sporting event; this is a modern-day freak show. It even says they have a &#8216;midget toss&#8217;! I know the wrestlers agreed to participate, but they aren&#8217;t the only ones that have to live with the dehumanizing stereotypes. Sougra shouldn&#8217;t tolerate entertainment that pokes fun at people for their size or disabilities.&#8221;

<li><p>Suddenly, a diminutive wrestler in brightly-colored spandex hurtles toward you, landing on your desk and knocking all your papers onto the floor. &#8220;Ha! What fun is life if you can&#8217;t laugh at yourself?&#8221; she says, as she rolls to her feet. &#8220;Maybe wrestling isn&#8217;t for everyone, but it&#8217;s a lot better than being unemployed or having some boring office job. We wrestlers are celebrating who we are - it&#8217;s not up to you to tell us what we can&#8217;t do. Instead, why don&#8217;t you give us some support and let us show everyone what we can do?&#8221;

<li><p>&#8220;You&#8217;re all thinking too small,&#8221; slobbers creepy endocrinologist Dr. Silvio Jekyll, leering down over the head of the wrestler and gesticulating erratically. &#8220;You&#8217;ve got to look at the big picture. We wouldn&#8217;t have to worry about any of this if we had a cure for dwarfism, right? Well, I&#8217;ve just made a huge breakthrough in hormone treatments that would allow all these people to grow to a normal height, instead of being freakishly small. All I need is some funding to make my project a reality. Yes, that&#8217;s all...&#8221; He cackles maniacally, though it&#8217;s not clear what he is finding so funny.

Just in case, often when I discuss something, it's under the pretense of the Socratic Method or the devil's advocate, so just know that I don't always advocate for what I'm saying. Thank you.

Also, I have a habit of editing posts soon after they're made to correct minor errors. Please be aware of that.
