Updraft
Picking up the pen has never been easier.
Note: this thread is for the issues subset of Updraft. For World Assembly affairs, see this dispatch.
- Our Mission -
To help you achieve success in your writing endeavors in every way we can.
Authoring issues and WA resolutions is one of the most rewarding aspects of NationStates, but getting started can be incredibly daunting. We believe that anyone can write, so we provide the resources you need to get started comfortably. Whether you have an idea but don't know where to start, have a draft up and want some feedback, or otherwise would like some help with your endeavors, Updraft is here to help!
- The Team -
We've brought together some of NationStates' premier writers from all corners of the site so that you can learn from the best. Our team includes issues editors, a World Assembly secretariat, and experienced authors and feedback givers in all three areas of NationStates authorship.
If you're an experienced person interested in joining our team, please contact The Ankhalic Vaspriot. We'd love to have you!
- How It Works -
You can contact us via our Discord server, by telegraming The Ankhalic Vaspriot, or by posting in this very thread! We'll connect you with the members of our team best able to assist you. We offer the following services:
Project Mentoring
For those who'd like some extra help, we can oversee a project from start to finish, helping with drafting, understanding forum norms, campaigning, and everything else all the way to submission.
Consultation
If you're wondering how viable an idea is, trying to gauge political viability, or otherwise want some guidance navigating a situation, we're here to help!
Feedback Giving
Is that one weird sentence bothering you? Wondering if your commendation makes a strong enough case? We can read your draft and provide guidance at all levels, from mechanical errors and wording to narrative and building an argument.
Idea Generation
Not sure what to write an issue or resolution on? We're happy to give you some ideas!
Research
Our experienced people can also help you find relevant information on your topic, such as policy stances for an issue, technical details for a GA resolution, or achievements of a commendation/condemnation nominee.

- FAQ -
Can you get my issue published/resolution passed?
While our team contains several issues editors, we cannot guarantee publication. Likewise, the passage of a resolution depends on the will of voters, which we are only a small fraction of. We can, however, greatly increase your chances of success.
What if I have a bit of experience already?
We're happy to assist anyone who'd like it, even if you've already achieved some success. If you're particularly experienced, consider joining the team!
Will you exert your biases on my work?
Your work is ultimately your own. Our team may have ideas that go against your intentions, which you are free to not accept. Striking a balance here is key to success.
Who can use Updraft?
Anyone can ask! However, we reserve the right to refuse service to problematic players and trolls.
What are your qualifications?
Being a successful author doesn't automatically mean being a good mentor. Our team members were carefully selected for the quality of their feedback, history of collaboration, and general friendliness in addition to their authorships.
Happy Writing!
