[DRAFT] Let Them Eat Cake!

Postby Galom Dasir » Thu Jan 27, 2022 4:27 am

Title: Let Them Eat Cake!

Description: After the funeral of a fairly unpopular politician @@RANDOMNAMEMALE_1@@, during which his wife sat alone during the service, it has been revealed that some of your government's staff held a party in your office the night before. A leak by a senior government official revealed that some members of your Cabinet and other political staff gathered in an office with cake and beers, and partied into the early hours of the morning. Despite many government officials being specifically invited to the funeral, they were too hungover to attend it. Several people have gathered in your office demanding a response to the scandal.

Validity: All Nations

Choices:

Option 1:
"This is an absolute disaster." Says your Propaganda Minister whilst she hurriedly disposes of empty wine bottles. "We need to distance you from this party as much as possible. Sack anyone who attended it! With the exception of your Cabinet, of course. If we fire enough of the lowly staffers, the public may accept this sacrificial offering and absolve you of any responsibility."
Fallout: Civil servants are fired for having a mug of coffee at their desks.
Validity: All Nations

Option 2: "We weren't partying, Leader! We promise!" Says civil servant @@RANDOMNAMEFEMALE_1@@ whilst she wipes cake crumbs from her mouth. "We only had a small gathering to mourn the tragic passing of @@RANDOMNAMEMALE_1@@. It was relevant to the work of the government! You must categorically deny that a party took place and insist that it was related to his passing! If we evade the inevitable questions from the public, they will only be able to speculate about it and we can carry on running the country."
Fallout: Office Christmas parties are added to workers' salaried hours.
Validity: All Nations

Option 3: "Have you seen that awful photo of @@RANDOMNAMEMALE_1@@'s wife sitting alone during the funeral?" Says @@RANDOMNAMEMALE_2@@, a newly-appointed member of your party. "It's heartbreaking! Imagine how she must have felt, sitting alone at her husband's funeral whilst your government was partying into the night! Not to mention the mountain of evidence that was leaked. You have to admit that the party took place and issue a formal apology to @@RANDOMNAMEMALE_1@@'s wife on behalf of your government. It's the only way that the public will be able to trust us."
Fallout: The government could get away with murder as long as they apologize for it.
Validity: All Nations

Written by Galom Dasir and co-authored by Hoveton.

We modeled this issue on the current scandal unfolding in the UK regarding the accusations against Prime Minister Boris Johnson of breaking COVID rules with a series of parties, including one which was held on the evening before the funeral of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. We chose to omit any mention of the pandemic from our issue and instead focus on the alleged disrespect towards the funeral.

This is our first time collaborating on an issue, so criticism will be useful! As an extra question, how do I recognize Hoveton as a co-author in the actual issue application? I currently can't see an option to add another author or credit.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I'd expect this kind of antics to happen with a politician that isn't popular. If he was "highly respected", there should have been someone besides his wife at the funeral.

Of course, the nature of democracy is that usually 51% of people approve of any given politician in office while 49% don't, but that still means there are going to be people at both the funeral and the party, not one or the other.

I have amended the draft to reverse the deceased politician's popularity. Does the new draft work?
