This is a pretty long description. And while it's got some puns in there, I think you could cut out a lot of the extraneous detail.

Closing thoughts. This issue is very similar to Issue #129, but with aliens. That might cause some further points against it.

Yeah, i'm trying to make this issue not that far away, so, 'm working how to do it...

Weeks of investigations has revealed a mysterious creature similar to an octopus that presents behaviors that indicate an intelligence very similar to the first humans. Now, after weeks of celebrations and more research of Europia, several people have gathered in your office to discuss what to do with the creatures, which have been called "Europians".

This is a pretty long description. And while it's got some puns in there, I think you could cut out a lot of the extraneous detail.

And that was the effect of trying to make it much closer to home, but yeah, i will try to cut out some details.

[Option 1]:"I think we should uplift them," recommends Doctor Karl Arthur one of the nation's most controversial scientists that is wearing a a lab coat covered in a mysterious glowing green substance. "@@ NAME @@ has a moral obligation to help them reach the 21st century and free them from the threats of famines, plagues, and deaths that they could be avoided. Do it for their children!! "
[Effect]: the government is spending billions of @@ CURRENCY @@ in making Europians know how to build better houses.

Referencing a specific time period is a no-go as it ignores the vagueness NS strives for. I'd make that a bit more ambiguous. Otherwise the option is decent, but the effect line is a little weak.

Oh, you have a point there, maybe i should writte "@@ NAME @@ has a moral obligation to help them reach the next century". I will try to create a better effect line.

[Option 2]: "NOOOOO", responds Professor Katherine Burham, a scientist who is dressed, casually, in a uniform from the StarTrek series "If we do that, we will not be different from the evil imperialists who have plagued our world. We must create a law that prohibits all our intervention in the home world of the Europians at any cost, so they can live in peace and develop as a nation and who knows? maybe one day they will be advanced enough to visit us "
[Effect]: the "prime directive" is preventing scientists from further investigating Europia for fear of contaminating the culture of the Europians.

I don't think you can reference StarTrek directly here, instead maybe choose some wacky NS substitute.

[Option 3]:"Maybe we can reach a compromise" intervenes a scientist who responds like 'Mr. @@ ANIMAL @@', "It is true that interventionism has caused a lot of damage, but we cannot allow thousands of Europians to suffer, so we should give them citizenship to all of them, so we could help them because everyone knows that @@ NAME @@ never abandons her children "
[Effect]: citizenship has reached new heights in @@ NAME @@

The effect line here is pretty good, but the option description is kinda weak.

So, this is the contrary of option 1: need a better description.

[Option 4]: "What is all this?" asks the famous slave owner Butin Slavholder, while wearing a shirt that appears to have been taken from a 19th century museum. "Citizenship? Do not intervene ?, listen dear @@ LEADER @@: don't pay attention to these hippies, it's obvious what you have to do: you have to enslave those aliens. Imagine the amount of @@ CURRENCY @@ we can earn with those space octopuses in the slave markets around the world. Ok, I accept that bringing them here would be very expensive, but imagine how many people would want a slave as exotic as their property. Just give the order ".
[Effect]: slaveholders around the world go bankrupt by purchasing slaves who cannot stray too far from water sources.
[Validity]: Nations that are involved in slavery.

Again, the issue of the time period reference

"The creatures you are talking about aren't real: they are Demons!!We must take the war against those impious creatures, and destroy that moon! Only then can we save the world from the threat of Satan. "
[Effect]: the War Of The Worlds has begun.

Nice effect line, but again the option description is weak. I would be more specific than "certain religious group", that's the place to be creative.

[Option 6]:"I think the problem is that we are treating these creatures as sapient beings" intervenes the famous chef Brandon Bransay, while eating something of dubious origin. "How many people wouldn't want to eat a Europian? The only thing we have to do is make more probes with containment chambers and send them to that moon to capture those octopus aliens so we can cook them. What's the worst that could happen?"
[Effect]: people are spending a lot of time in the bathroom after eating Europian steak.

Interesting (and horrifying) choice. I like this one.

Closing thoughts. This issue is very similar to Issue #129, but with aliens. That might cause some further points against it.

For a modern issue, I would advise making up some humorous NS alternative. There's probably already one floating around in the issues list honestly.

Edited, to make a little homage to issue 129, or to aknowledge it, i divided option 2 into two categories: the one that only is available if you go with 129.1 and the one that is available if you chose one of the other options. I changed the ST reference and create a religious group, also, i changed all references of centuries.

As was discussed a bit previously in this thread, this is a bit too far into sci-fi territory. Discovering sapient space aliens, and doing things like offering them citizenship or enslaving them? That is Easter Egg material, but doesn't fit within the more general world of NationStates. References to space aliens in regular issues do sometimes occur, but in those cases it is presented as crackpot theories, cover-ups for government programs, and other such off-the-wall stuff with a pretty heavy nod and wink that saying "Yes, there are aliens!" means very much that there aren't really aliens.

An issue like this would be more workable, in my opinion, if rather than stating "Hey, we found sapient aliens" it was more of a realistic scenarios like "Hey, we found some markings which, if interpreted in a certain way, might suggest the possibility of the one-time existence of intelligent life." That would still give you a media frenzy in most countries, and could open the door for people making similar suggestions to what you're using, but re-phrased as hypotheticals (nearly all of which require massive funding, of course!). An ambitious scientist might say "Hang on a minute, we don't know yet, but I'd love to have funding to look into it more." A general might claim "if there's life out there, it's a threat, so put me in charge of a new space force just in case!" A skeptic might point out "These marks are obviously just caused by ice movements, and the rest is just hopeful claims to get publicity. Focus on real science!"

I would avoid anything that implies the specific truth of the claims, and focus on people responding to the news of an unknown possibility.

Yeah, after reading the last post, i decided to change a lot of the issue, trying to make it much close to home as far i can do, putting all the "those are sapient beings" options in one and adding more skeptic options. I hope that would satisfy everybody.

You're covering a lot of ground in this draft, and it is a little confusing. I am having trouble understanding exactly how sophisticated this species is supposed to be.

Think about how people react to different animals or different kinds of humans that we find here on Earth.

There are a lot of animals that some people eat, but others think it's unethical. This happens with pigs, cows, dogs, etc. But we don't generally have debates about making them citizens.

There have been many times when different races of humans came into contact, and some people thought the other races were less-than. We've had societies where people debated whether all races should be entitled to citizenship or some should be excluded. But racist policies don't usually trigger debates on cannibalism. Nazis and antebellum Southern planters did some horrible things, but they weren't loudly advocating for Jews or black people to be used as food. That's gross, and even your average resident of the 3rd Reich or 19th century Mississippi would probably agree that it's gross.

Right now, it's unclear which debate we are trying to have in this draft. Is this alien species like animals that we have on earth, or is it as intelligent as a human race? I think it needs to be pinned down more because an option that advocates eating pork will have different stats from an option that advocates eating people.

I also find the name "Europians" very distracting because it sounds too much like "Europeans" and part of my brain expects this to turn into an issue about racially-insensitive species names. IRL, there was some talk a while back about renaming birds if they had racially objectionable names.

Overall, I think you have some interesting ideas and you have potential as an author, but this draft is not ready to submit.

Ok, thanks for your advice. I was rethinking the draft and conclude that it was too rushed, at least option 1, because if that event happened in the real world, the first debates we would see are if those creatures are sapient or not before we decided what we should do with them (slaving them, conquering them, grant citizenship, eating them...), so, i changed the option 1 to reflect that and deleted option 3. The last two options, well...skeptics (religious or not) are going to happen.
