Slut shaming in an issue

Postby All are Equal » Thu Sep 09, 2021 10:41 pm

For the “short shorts” issue, option 2 mentioned “she’d be attacked if she wore that in public “. That’s basically saying “she asked for it” NOT COOL!

Firstly... nowhere there does the speaker say "she asked for it" or anything similar. "If she dressed like that downtown, she'd be attacked" doesn't place blame anywhere near as hard as "she asked for it" does. It establishes a causative relationship - which isn't great, to be fair - but "she asked for it" is a completely different ball game.

Secondly, speakers in options are not objective. They say things that could be offensive, rude, inappropriate, or ill-concieved. Speakers in options are often blatantly racist or homophobic. I'm definitely of the opinion that unnecessary discrimination by speakers (i.e. not relevant to the issue-at-large) is undesirable, but this is an instance where the speaker is perfectly in-character to be saying something like this.

Sherp: to me, “she asked for it” logically follows from “dressed like that”. But I agree that characters in issues aren’t all great people.

This is just how certain issues are written. I don't see how you can equate that to slut shaming. Besides, speakers in an issue can be racist, misogynistic, homophobic, and can just be assholes in general. That doesn't mean the issue author believes in that or endorses such views.
In solidarity with Ukraine, I will be censoring the letters Z and V from my signature. This is -ery much so a big change, but it should be a -ery positi-e one. -olodymyr -elensky and A-o- continue to fight for Ukraine while the Russians are still trying to e-entually make their way to Kharki-, -apori-h-hia, and Kry-yi Rih, but that will take time as they are concentrated in areas like Bakhmut, -uledar, and other areas in Donetsk. We will see Shakhtar play in the Europa League but Dynamo Kyi- already got eliminated. Shakhtar managed to play well against Florentino Pere-'s Real Madrid who feature superstars like -inicius, Ben-ema, Car-ajal, and -al-erde. Some prominent Ukrainian players that got big transfers elsewhere include Oleksander -inchenko, Illya -abarnyi, and Mykhailo Mudryk.

It's pretty mutually agreed that issues have stuff you aren't allowed to say. It's humor, not unirony. Nazi sympathisers plan rally exists, and yet we can't say NAZI or be a Nazi nation without getting DEATED. Issues have stuff that can be considered offensive.
