Issue Correction?

Postby Aredita » Sun Aug 15, 2021 5:44 pm

Issue #1329 has an error, I think.

A recent exposé revealed that growth hormone therapy — an expensive treatment meant to help children who are producing little to no growth hormone on their own — is increasingly being prescribed to wealthy children who are just somewhat shorter than average.

“Great!” sarcastically exclaims Nahasapeemapetilon’s valet after he has walked out of the room. “One more way the rich get it better off than the poor. My kids are even shorter than his, but I could never afford this treatment. You have to level the playing field. State-employed doctors should determine who truly needs growth hormone therapy, and the state should pay for it.”

Firstly, my nation has universal healthcare, and I'm certain hormonal therapy falls under something medical, and I find it odd that my country is not already paying for this, desipe us providing healthcare to everyone. Option #2 shows this.

Also, I'm sure there's a thread for this type of problem, but I had trouble finding it.

There can be debate about what constitutes a legitimate "medical problem" that warrants a government-paid treatment. Being unusually short may cause some social problems (people take you less seriously due to your height, you have trouble using doors and machines designed for taller people), but doesn't put you in mortal danger, and also has advantages (being smaller means you need less food, can fit in smaller spaces, etc.). So it can be argued that preferring to be short or tall is a personal choice rather than a health necessity.

As Trott says, as a citizen living in a nation with universal healthcare, a country with universal healthcare may not cover all treatment for all conditions. Patients may have to pay for their own drugs (in England, this is true for everyone, unless you have certain conditions where you will literally die without them, are under a certain age, over 60, are pregnant or have just given birth, or meet certain financial restraints). Also, some areas may prescribe specific drugs that others may not.

So, this is accurate.

BTW, for future reference, the thread for reporting suspected validity errors is this one.
