[DRAFT] Cybercriminal Woes

Postby The Glorious Hypetrain » Sat Aug 07, 2021 3:40 pm

I got this idea from the one-off issue contest, and wanted to bring it up for more general feedback. Inspired by the recent wave of public cyber attacks that many nations and their critical infrastructure face today.

Title: Cybercriminal Woes
Validity: Moderate+ IT sector rank

Sitting down at your desk this morning, you notice that your computer is asking for payment in the popular "maxcoin" cryptocurrency to log in and get your files back.

Option 1: The flabbergasted IT manager bursts through your office door, "@@LEADER@@! Don't touch the keyboard! My team is working to fix things now, but it will take some time. It would be great if we could get more funding for our technology defenses to prevent these attackers from returning. We could even expand it to protect @@MAJORINDUSTRY@@ to deter attacks on our government and vital industry."
Effect: Accessing computers requires users to give up an arm, leg, and answers to their last five social media quizzes

Option 2: "@@NAME@@ doesn't negotiate with terrorists, so why would this be any different than dealing those Bigtopian radicals?" suggests Minister of Defense @@RANDOMNAME@@. "We should take the fight to them, literally. Can't hack us if they don't have a building to stand in."
Effect: "Kinetic Strikes" are a popular option against cyber criminals

Option 3: Carrying a lantern and scroll, @@RANDOMNAME@@ dismounts from @@HIS@@ horse and approaches you, "why do we need all of this technology anyways? I grew up without all this new-fangled technology and turned out fine. I'm sure the rest of the country would too."
Effect: @@NAME@@ returns to a simpler time, free of technological distractions

NSG is super srs biz. ... Apparently, so is NSGP, based on my current stalking of the GP forum.Though NSG and NSGP seem to have a real thing for repeated blunt force applied to long-deceased equines, so I guess they got that in common.
