[DISCARDED] Clock cycled computers clocked out?

Postby Zarulia » Fri Jul 16, 2021 10:54 pm

validity: Invalid for nations that does not have a military and/or nations that banned computers
description: It was a usual day for the workers at the launch facility to type on a dumb terminal at a launch facility where every characters of machine codes count, until the missile that was supposed to be launched detonates before it even launch. It turns out that they still use machine clock cycles to set time for the missile operation, and a small calculation mistake could cause a catastrophe. The debate of this issue have been so intricate that even the defense minister can't solve the issue, and that is why this issue ended up on your office.

choice 1 description: "We don't need an upgrade because older systems are perfect, they're not compatible with any other computers so it is hard for anyone to hack in our technologies" says @@RANDOMNAME@@ from the computer museum, He then continues; "Back then computers are not standardized and that's perfect because it will not be compatible with other computers that have different instruction sets, meaning that the security is rock solid. We just need experts that knows how to write programs for the MAX-34k machine language."
Outcome: powerful military equipments are underused due to a dwindling supply of old programmers

choice 2 description: "Wait... Machine language??! MAX-34k Microprocessors??! I've never heard of these before." Exclaims your advisor, and then she continues; "Why not use Ubooks? I have a Ubook air and people from government agencies have Ubook airs and pros, it's very reliable and best thing is that the Operating System doesn't track you."
Outcome: The military operates a justice warrior Twitcher and Maxtagram account for status updates and awareness retwitching

choice 3 description: "Wait hold on... isn't that made by a United Federation company? The pear company always track you and that's very wrong. By the way, I brought in the CEO of @@LETTER@@hisha" says another of your advisor. And then the CEO says: "@@LEADER@@. It is nice to meet you." he then nervously catch his breathe and continues: "We found a very modular laptop model that fits for the task, and it's bullet-proof too." he then he opened his suitcase, revealing a rather unconventional laptop. He then turned on the laptop and continues: "You can open up the storage bay for hard drive access, and custom add-on cards. We can supply these with discounted price, and we can put special operating systems too on it instead of the more common Barrows from Michaelsoft."
outcome: Most military related injuries are caused by the "hardware side of things"

Come up with a more interesting story besides "an issue ended up on your desk and you called your advisors." Maybe something went comically wrong because your military's computers were out of date. Like maybe a missile hit something other than its intended target because the targeting system was old and shitty. Maybe some troops didn't get their orders because the commanding officer's computer crashed.

The options are the best part of this draft.

The effect lines could use more humor.

alrighty, i updated the draft (added more descriptive detail of what's going on and more humor) but i still think that the humor is a bit lacking so i'll come up with better effects line later.
thanks!

I would advise you to use a catchy title that fits your issue premise. Your current one doesn't stand out and is quite vague.
In solidarity with Ukraine, I will be censoring the letters Z and V from my signature. This is -ery much so a big change, but it should be a -ery positi-e one. -olodymyr -elensky and A-o- continue to fight for Ukraine while the Russians are still trying to e-entually make their way to Kharki-, -apori-h-hia, and Kry-yi Rih, but that will take time as they are concentrated in areas like Bakhmut, -uledar, and other areas in Donetsk. We will see Shakhtar play in the Europa League but Dynamo Kyi- already got eliminated. Shakhtar managed to play well against Florentino Pere-'s Real Madrid who feature superstars like -inicius, Ben-ema, Car-ajal, and -al-erde. Some prominent Ukrainian players that got big transfers elsewhere include Oleksander -inchenko, Illya -abarnyi, and Mykhailo Mudryk.

It also makes it sound like a duplicate of #854, while other parts of the draft have a more computer-oriented slant that is different from #854.

Please don't submit this, it's been less than two weeks and multiple options, especially option 3, are way too long.

Grammar, structure, the second option frankly looks like an "uBook" advertisement, the third option makes no sense whatsoever... this needs at least 2 weeks before submitting IMO.

Seconding Homyland; I'd recommend getting something like Grammarly to go over your issue to help you with specific word choices and changes.

Your options and description are also a bit all-over-the-place; your description blames computer clock cycles for the early detonation but your options cover general technology problems in the military. I think the specific arguments and focus in Option 1 have a lot of merit, as this is the sort of conversation that gets had in RL to justify the continued existence of COBOL. I'd recommend looking at the sort of arguments surrounding that debate for ideas on what Option 2 and Option 3 can suggest, though they'll need to be reframed to fit in the same military context as the rest of the issue.

Became an editor on 18/01/23.

Rampant statistical speculation from before that date is entirely unofficial.

Why would this be an issue for leader, rather than high-ranking military officals?
