[DRAFT] A Song of Struggle

Postby Dabarastan » Wed Jun 30, 2021 1:49 am

This is a quick and easy draft I've scribbled up in about 10 minutes - once the theme came to me the draft basically wrote itself (Google Another Day in Paradise lyrics if the reference has gone over your head).

Basically, I have no doubt this likely crosses over with an existing issue/s to some capacity. I think it would just be a question of whether the lyrical theme is worth the duplication or not. As I said, I only spent a few minutes throwing this together so I'm not particularly attached to it. If it's too ambitious, or if it falls flat or whatever, I'll just abandon it.

Edit: Changed the title, instead incorporated the song title into the final option. Also taking title suggestions.

Probably requires high wealth gaps, capitalism

The Issue

On your way to the office, you see a homeless woman call out to a man on the street. She says, "Sir, can you help me? It's cold and I've nowhere to sleep. Is there somewhere you can tell me?"

1- He walks on, doesn't look back. He pretends he can't hear her. He starts to whistle as he crosses the street, and seems embarrassed to be there. "There ought to be a law against you bums harassing strangers like this!" he finally howls.
Effect: the homeless population of @@CAPITAL@@ have been instructed to sit down and shut up

2- Looking back to the homeless woman, you can see she's been crying. She's got blisters on the soles of her feet, and can't walk, though she's trying. She wails, "Oh Lord! Is there nothing more anybody can do? Why doesn’t the government provide free housing to people like me?"
Effect: the homeless population are, Against All Odds, finally being treated with some respect

3- "Woah, think twice!" vocalises your assistant, catching up behind you. "You can see from the lines on her face that this woman has long been there. Probably been moved on from every place 'cause she didn't fit in there. Don't you think society would be better off if people like this were to simply… disappear? Then we could finally enjoy another day in paradise."
Effect: it’s awfully quiet in the air tonight in downtown @@CAPITAL@@
