Actually, you can have a Universal Healthcare System with little government control. Germany sends its best regards.
That's neither here or there, though, and I am reasonably certain, that this would be off-topic.

In any case, back to the topic - there are a lot of issues, which arise in specific situations and take shots at basically all directions of the spectrum, mostly via unintended consequences.

Fraser is actually right here. I've read this study before, and it's fairly accurate. It's just, the root cause isn't socialization. It's the level of micromanagement from the government, that isn't seen in countries like Germany.
