[DRAFT] Weather or Not?

Postby Baloo Kingdom » Mon Mar 01, 2021 12:29 pm

Hello again, users of the Got Issues? Forum! Today I present to you my fifth issue idea, "Weather or Not?". Please leave any comments, concerns, suggestions, or complaints in the forum. I would appreciate any feedback you can give me. Thanks!

Draft 5:

[title] Weather or Not?

[desc] Lately, @@DENONYMPLURAL@@ have shown much frustration with @@NAME@@’s horrendous, unusual, and sometimes dangerous weather patterns. After a devastating hurricane ripped through @@NAME@@ last week, destroying many homes and businesses, many have been debating whether or not something should be done about the weather.

[validity] Must have low Weather stat

[option]"Frankly, our weather sucks,” says Frank Frazzle, infamous for his chronic frankness. “The climate around these parts frankly isn’t to my taste, and I’m sure my fellow citizens would agree. To be frank, I would suggest you compensate those families and businesses directly affected by this nation’s rabid weather with a hefty amount of @@CURRENCYPLURAL@@ from here on out. And I believe that’s all I have to be frank about.” Frank walks away into the increasing precipitation whilst consuming a frankfurter topped with now-drenched yellow mustard.
[effect]parents actively encourage their children to flood the bathtub in order to receive government welfare for weather-related incidents

[option]“I’m convinced Frank over there was on the right track, but I think I can do you one better,” interjects @@RANDOMNAME@@, popular futurist and head sales employee of Weather-Tec, “Here’s my proposition, I think what @@NAME@@ needs is Weather-Tec’s ClimateCapsule3000. With just the press of a button and the launch of a low-grade rocket containing one of our ClimateCapsule3000s, all of @@NAME@@’s weather-related issues will be gone, poof! Blue skies and sunshine guaranteed! Just sign here, @@LEADER@@, to be the new top customer of Weather-Tec! We’ll discuss the prices later. What do you say?”
[effect]@@DENOYMPURAL@@ reminisce about the days when the water wasn't tinted Weather-Tec green
[option_validity] Must have Capitalism or Socialism installed and must have high or moderate Scientific Advancement stat

[option]"Clearly, you’re missing the point,” explains @@RANDOMNAME@@ snarkily, as @@HE@@ closes @@HIS@@ umbrella and shakes pools of water off his thoroughly trenched raincoat, “Using money as a means to prevent or repay damages is counterproductive. You’ll just end up taxing people more, and people hate taxes more than they hate natural disasters, right? You just need to tell the people to toughen up and pull themselves up by their own bootstraps. Sure, some people might lose everything they own, but I assure you that being idle in this situation will pay off in the big picture.” He exits the scene and is promptly showered by a stream of water outside.
[effect]families unable to pay for food and clean water after losing their homes to floods are told by the government to “toughen up”

The option for capitalism could be changed into one for socialist nations too, if you changed it to a government funded lab or agency

The implications of controlling the weather go well beyond "our weather is a bit dreary". This could prevent natural disasters, droughts, floods, could artifically produce rain to extinguish fires, could end all snowfalls to prevent snow removal. What would this do to the environment? Ski resorts could make it snow as frequently as they desire. Beach resorts and farms would argue about whether it will be warm and sunny or rainy. Do beach resorts care about droughts? This would be better as a chain, rather than a single issue

I tried to make each of the characters humorous in the fact that they seem to be only drawn to their own self-interests and don't tend to exaggerate things (however I could add an option that includes a character who does). I mean, this is the general public. They can't all be "logical thinkers", right? For example, the Weather-Tec guy is in reality rather greedy and just wants to sell his product to the government to end the unusual and sometimes dangerous weather patterns. He only cares about the sale and doesn't care about the environmental implications and doesn't care to mention them to you in the option. In the same way, the person who would choose this option clearly wasn't thinking in the long term or about what exactly this capsule could cause as a side effect of its launch into the atmosphere. That's kinda what I was going for. Also, is it even possible for a non-Issue Editor to make an issue chain? If it actually is possible, it seems like making would drastically decrease my chances of getting the issue accepted rather than a whole chain. Anyway, those are my thoughts, thanks for the feedback.

I could make that option only available for nations with high scientific advancement. I've seen some crazy propositions in issues before.

Fair enough, I suppose we could start with this issue and make follow ups later

Good plan

This is what I plan to do if my issue on sign language interpreters is accepted. If your issue works fine as a standalone then that's probably the best way to do things.

Made a few smaller edits to the three options, fixed some grammar mistakes, and reworded certain phrases.

Edit 3/25/21: Repeated revisionary steps again, made the issue slightly more comic while also checking for inconsistencies.
