Collaboration Issue: Signup and Discussion

Postby Jutsa » Wed Jun 24, 2020 7:06 pm

Hello, everyone! I've been thinking about an idea for around maybe a week now, and decided it would be kinda fun to actually go through with it.
It's actually pretty simple, basically the idea is it'd be an issue constructed by a whole bunch of different authors; one big collab project.
The details are a little bit blurry, but the idea is once we have a small collection of different folks, we could then collectively choose on an issue premise,
with one person writing the description, and each option written by different folks. Of course, each person could give feedback on another person's part, etc.

Now due to how many authors there are, it'd be kinda hard to make an issue that'd have so many options.
Hypothetically it'd be plausible with a list-type issue, but aside from that, if things go well, it might be a matter of splitting
this collab project into two separate teams. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

As for who would get the badge, it would be me ideally I'd submit it under an alias whose name could be voted upon by the various writers
who participate in the collaboration, with each individual author listed as a coauthor. The name of the puppet nation will, of course, be thought of and voted upon by the members.

Oh, and one last thing: It might be a lot easier to discuss the draft over on discord. Now I get not all of you may want to use it,
and depending on how many people we get, that might be a way to split groups up (between discord users and old-fashioned telegram users).
Also, to anyone wondering if GI has a group communication platform: Yep, right there.

So yeah, that's pretty much it. Please do feel free to opt in in this thread (I think we'll start the first premise discussion and drafting process this Saturday June 27th),
and we'll go from there. Thank you in advance to everyone who'd like to participate, and uh, yeah, look forward to collabradoodling with everyone.

edit: As of the 27th, the drafting process has begun. If you'd still like to sign up for another draft collab, feel free, but the first one is already under way.
Let me know if you do want to join one, though. :)

Oh, and not all collaborations would need me either. If you want to host a large collaboration project, or partake in another one that I'm not involved in, feel free!
You're more than welcome to either have it submitted under the same collaboration account as us, or your own. Your call, but you're still welcome to use this thread if you're looking for people. :)

P.S. here's a link to the GI discord.

As stated previously, definitely interested in writing all the option 2s I can. I agree that too many cooks spoil the pot, so I suggest capping the number of authors for one draft at 4-5. We can always work on multiple issues at a time if membership becomes a problem.

Some terrible suggestions for the pen name(not all mine):

The Issue Printer

The GI Hivemind

Forest Cabal

The Got Issues Elite

Got Issues Assembly Taskforce

Nationstates Operative Authorship Hegemony

Voice of the Issues Proleteriat

Issues Society of the Superb Utopian Elite

Nationstates Operative Authorship Hegemony

Federation of Associated Issues Litterateurs

Federation of Associated Issues Librarians

Association of Respectable Someday Editors

EDIT: Some additional candidates have popped up

Issues Author

Issue Author

Eluai'i

All 3 of the above are founded already, Jutsa insists on a vote though :P

Interesting Idea you have here Jutsa, I'm definitely down with whatever premise you have (or what we can come up with as a collective group) :)

A couple I have at mind would be a followup to weaponizing space and a followup to 97.1, both of which have been haunting me for an age now.
(Though of the two, perhaps weaponizing space first).

Of course, that's just one idea. Another I thought could be neat would be a followup to Bullet Time? option 1, or something.
In the end, though, it could be a totally fresh idea that nobody's thought of before. :)

I feel like it should be meta-topically something about multiple authors. That'd make it more interesting. Maybe something about scientific journals and uncredited authors? Or about musical writing credits being given for royalty purposes? Basically it'd be great to have some sort of issue premise that is to do with having lots of authors, as that'd justify the awkwardness and logistical nightmare of having multiple authors.

Just pitching out ideas, I wouldn't want to be directly involved, as I'd end up taking over, I'm sure. However, if a decent issue gets written by y'all I'd be happy to co-edit it with a willing editor or two, as in one of us will approach the text, another the effect lines, another the stats, or something like that.

Oh. I like that idea...

Alas we kinda cowrote something else that's way less interesting, but eh, hopefully it'll still be bun to edit.
Course, two of our coauthors still have yet to write options, and one yet to contribute entirely,
so depending on how that goes we could end up cowriting another one.

Still, glad you like the idea. Certainly something with several co-editors would be amusing too. :)
(And ideally we'd kinda keep at it til we get something half-decent)

lol thank you. I'm kinda hoping that we'd have one fairly large newfangled idea for a trial run
(in a way, kinda sad we didn't go with CWA's suggestion, though that's definitely a backup plan should this draft be shot down premise-wise [or in addition to this one]),
and then after this, this could be a nice way to bring newer writers together so everyone can work together in a slightly-more fast-paced and involved manner.
(albeit, ideally 2-4 people rather than the 6 we have for this one draft )

But yeah, for sure you could join the next one. Actually, I kinda almost wish Aussie were in this one because of the type of issue we're doing
(I think I even TG'd him asking if he wanted to collab but then neither of us could think of a way to begin, so this was a nice way of getting this idea on rails ;))

Also, as a side note, I'd be down for collabing with anyone at any time; that's partially why I made this thread. :P

Agree with the above (third this?). Working with other people on issues is honestly a pleasure since I can let them do the hard work, and I'd love to do it again. If anyone would like to work with me on any independent projects or honestly even if you'd like to personally request feedback (although I'm not sure why you'd ask me of all people) I would be extremely happy to help and partake in whatever it is that needs partaking in. :)

Actually, I've been thinking about creating a Got Issues? Region that collaborates on Issues and provides help for aspiring authors. If I were to found one, would I get support from you guys? Obviously such a Region would need experienced members who've gotten their issues published and everything…

Edit: Don't want to add another post just to say: @Noahs Second Country, excellent! If it gets a little more support I just might go through with it! :D
Edit: Aaaand @Westinor too! Yay! :) Might give this a little time to see what Jutsa thinks (it is their thread)…

(obligatory "not Jutsa" comment)

I think this is a good idea, especially for users who cannot use the discord we have set up. I'd definitely send a puppet there to help out, and having an RMB could facilitate better discussion than TGs or forum posts.

The authors involved with this project will likely support it, but I won't speak for them.

Alternatively, Forest exists :P

I kinda feel like Forest is a good place to for that, although... then again, their shtick is less "write issues" and more "tree" and "Forest Cabal".

Overall though I kinda feel like help can more easily be achieved on-forum than via region, but if it's something you or anyone'd feel like doing,
I'd gladly put a puppet of mine in there and support it. :)

All right, well here's the new Got Issues Region! :D Do you guys know the rules regarding where I can advertise this on the forums (like can I put a thread in the Got Issues? forum or is that not allowed…?).

I'd love some help running this, since I'm hardly experienced — if you guys join/send over puppets I'd happily make you Officers! But I'll stop talking about this here, since it's not the point of this thread. Sorry for derailing things a little, Jutsa

Naeh it's fine

Part of this is helping new authors and part of this is for fun, much the same as your region. :P

As for the collaboration itself, it's going well; just need to work on a couple more options,
which... as it turns out, doing the first option last proved to sorta restructure the whole issue,
so uh, y'know, oddball quirks and turns and such.

If anyone else wants to join a potential second, maybe smaller-scale collaboration project, feel free to say so.
Meanwhile, uh, Authoritaria, do you have discord, or would we set things up either via RMB or telegram?

Instead of writing a single issue, why not collaborate a chain? That way, we can each have individual issues with our individual names attached. Also, writing an issue is easier than writing an entire chain, and if we were to write an entire, we could all contribute a specific topic within the chain without getting in eachother's hair. One thing I've always wanted a chain about is a currency union, but was never qualified to do so myself. Another thing about a collaborated chain is that we could leave it somewhat open ended in case anyone wants to add to it in the future

That could be a fun idea to work on. And for sure I'd be alright with any authors wanting to contribute to that.

RN we're working on a single issue, and thus far that alone's been proving surprisingly difficult. We've still got two whole options to have written and had the issue description rewritten at least twice.

Unrelated, but I too would like to write a chain of issues about a currency union chaining off of that one draft you already mentioned it on. In the event that the draft is accepted I would totally be down to collab with you on that.

I think that a team could be more effective in a chain format, and I think it's something we should try to pursue in the future, but first we need to refine our current systems and set stricter deadlines smh.

A team would definitely be very effective at making a lengthy issue - that sounds fun but and I'd be down! yeaah we've learned deadlines fairly important/a bit of a problem :p
