A weird issue idea that is based off an American history thing. I haven't gotten an issue like this, so I thought "why not post this draft here?"

I changed the title due to Candlewhisper Archive's helpful comments.

This issue is finally submitted!

Title: The Problem with Peyote

Validity: Adult and no Atheism policy.

Description: The Pangaoaoangan tribe, a native people of @@NAME@@, use peyote, an illegal yet admittedly mild drug that causes hallucinations, in their religious ceremonies.

Option 1: "Drugs are bad, mmkay," says @@RANDOMFIRSTNAME@@ Emkay, holding a sign that says the same thing. "We have to stop all consumption of drugs, especially this 'peyote'. I love the Pangaoaoangans, but the peyote thing is a problem. Drugs ruin lives. All drugs, even mild ones, can be extremely addictive. The Pangaoaoangan tribe should still practice their religion, mind you, but they have to take the drugs out of it."
Effect: banning religious practices is okay if only some of them are banned

Option 2: Chief Hoogahooga, leader of the Pangaoaoangan tribe, takes a long draft on @@HIS@@ peace pipe and intones, "Lo, don't you want to allow the people living in your country to practice their religion freely? We do no harm, and peyote is not addictive. Assuming its only side effect is hallucinations, I would say its a soft drug. This, in turn, leads me to ask why Marijuana is in the title. Does it have to do with the fact that Keeyotee is similar to that of cannabis? If not I would suggest changing the title. Also one minor suggestion, The validity is quite high for this issue; you want issues to be open to as many nations as possible. Might I suggest removing the 'No Theocracy' validity and only applying it to the third option, that way nations that are theocratic can still get this issue, just not the third option. Other than that I don't have much more to add here, good luck

The issue is about peyote, obviously.

And I'd agree, it makes no sense for marijuana to be mentioned.

Honestly, I suggest just making the issue about peyote. You need to NSify when dealing with real places and often when dealing with real people. Plants and drugs only need to be NSified if you're trying to avoid the specifics of a dilemma that would stop an issue working well, or if the NSification makes the issue more interesting.

In this case, just make the issue about peyote already.

The dilemma is self-evident, and the rest is just fluff.

As to the options, 1 and 2 are predictable but necessary positions, with some decently humorous character depictions.

After that, the "wild" options are all somewhat prosaic and tired, at least for NS where we've seen too much of these options before. I suggest cutting option 3 onwards, and coming up with a single truly creative and laugh-out-loud third option that is original and funny.

That's no small demand, I know, but that is what it will take to make this a straight-to-game issue.

I don't want to hijack your issue, as it seems fairly refined at this point. You could possibly add someone using this issue to enact the atheism policy within the nation, like:

"See what these ridiculous cults, allow to go on, regardless of the law?!" says The Deity Mirage author @RANDOMNAME@, "What's next, human sacrifice? I say we just ban these archaic institutions outright, and end this problem once and for all!"

Requirement: Nation does not allow human sacrifice.

I can definitely see this making the issue too long however, just an idea.

It's interesting to note that people who use drugs religiously are actually less likely to abuse them to a dangerous degree than people who use them recreationally, because they tend to use them only for specific religious ceremonies rather than whenever they feel like it.
