[DRAFT] @@CAPITAL@@ Bridge is Falling Down

Postby Eastern Day » Fri Dec 13, 2019 10:40 am

TITLE:
@@CAPITAL@@ Bridge is Falling Down

VALIDITY:
Nations with immigration and/or internet

DESCRIPTION:
There has been a terrorist bombing at @@CAPITAL@@ Bridge, resulting in complete destruction of the bridge and the death of 300 people. Your top officials have assembled to discuss how to prevent such terrorist attacks in the future. However, the topic has become somewhat heated, as there is disagreement over what needs to be done.

OPTION 1
"Please, @@LEADER@@, think about the people," implores your civic-minded Minister for Public Unity and General Goodwill, @@RANDOMNAME_1@@, raising his voice. "Security is important, but we shouldn't sacrifice our rights in order to protect ourselves. That's exactly what the terrorists want us to do. Why don't we just increase police presence around important infrastructure and for large gatherings? We can even start a tip line for reporting suspicious activi-" @@HE@@ continues to lay out a plan, but is interrupted by your Minister of Domestic Security.

OUTCOME:
police are dispatched to large gatherings of other police to prevent terrorist attacks
(alternate outcome: police are dispatched to surround and protect key donut shops in @@CAPITAL@@)

OPTION 2a (nations that do not have the curfew policy)
"So what if we take away a few rights from the people?" shouts your aggressive Minister of Domestic Security, @@RANDOMNAME_2@@, raising @@HIS@@ fist. "We cannot settle for weakness! We need to increase all police presence, set a mandatory national curfew, and install surveillance cameras in all public areas!"

OUTCOME:
citizens caught breaking curfew or jaywalking are suspected to be terrorists
(Creates a national curfew)

OPTION 2b (nations with a curfew policy)
"So what if we take away a few rights from the people?" shouts your aggressive Minister of Domestic Security, @@RANDOMNAME_2@@, raising @@HIS@@ fist. "We cannot settle for weakness! We need to increase all police presence, make the national curfew earlier, and install surveillance cameras in all public areas!"

OUTCOME:
citizens caught breaking curfew or jaywalking are suspected to be terrorists

OPTION 3
"Forget the rights of the citizens, this is WAR!" bellows your Minister for War, @@RANDOMNAME_3@@, bashing @@HIS@@ fist against your desk. "We need to declare martial law! Authorize random searches! Install cameras in every house across @@NAME@@! Send in the military! We'll show these terrorist scum that they can't win!" Just as your Minister for War is about to continue, @@HE@@ is interrupted by an ear-splitting screech.

OUTCOME:
telescreens observe the reactions of citizens when their homes are randomly raided by police

OPTION 4
"Who cares about the citizens? Our government is at stake here!" booms your Minister of Creative Solutions, @@RANDOMNAME_4@@, screaming through a bullhorn at the top of @@HIS@@ lungs. "We can't count on cameras and the military to protect us! Only science can stop the terrorists!" @@HE@@ pauses to gasp for air before continuing to scream. "We can figure out who the dissenters are by recording their brain activity for signs of aggression! Oh, and we'd have to implant chips in people's skulls to do that, so we might as well track their location and use the chips as ID badges while we're at it!"

OUTCOME:
government workers are seen banging their heads against locked doors to open them

Terrorist attacks and how to respond to them have been the subject of issues before, covered briefly initially in Issue 222, and then expanded to a full chain with The Enemy Within issue chain.

I'm afraid your issue doesn't add anything new to the game's existing stories, so likely would be rejected for reasons of overlap.

However, there is some solid writing here, and as an author you've got good potential. I look forward to seeing your future drafts.

Great effect line. :)
