Add Prostitution Policy

Postby VoVoDoCo » Sun Nov 10, 2019 2:23 pm

You get a special policy Banner for legalizing marijuana. I think the same should be done for prostitution.

Whether or not your country legalized prostitution can (I don't know if it's true now but it's definitely possible for future issue writers) have an impact on the availability of future issues.

If something as tame as weed legalization gets its own policy Banner, I propose that prostitution gets one as well.

Sure, why not? Have one for banning it too!

Prostitution is banned in Deacarsia.

Regarding writing an issue for legalising prostitution I'd actually be up for the challenge.

That'd be awesome. I think there is one for the initial legalization, but there really isn't much to expand on it. To my knowledge there's only one the one issue. At the very least there's only been one issue that I've ever gotten.

The banners aren’t totally thought out well-designed things that were part of the game since the beginning, designed to track the most important aspects of the nation. They’re mostly taking advantage of some technical things we were doing anyway. Prostitution is not something we currently keep track off technically. I can’t remember if there’s an issue that deals with prostitution, but if so we’d really need another issue that reverses the pro- or anti prostitution position as well. And then we’d need to get admin to actually implement the banner, which considering this website is used as a teaching tool by lots of schools may not be a great idea. It’s not easy to write such issues in a way that’s appropriate for NS either.

As Ransium said, whether it'd be a front-stage policy or not would be... questionable (even though sensitive issues can be kept out of classroom nations, it's worth remembering that everything gameside -- titles, effects and banner policies -- can be seen by class nations). It might be more doable to track it by a backstage policy, if the issues necessitated it.

#106 is the extant prostitution issue, if you wanted to have a go at a reversal.

I was more thinking along the lines of the policy not referring to prostitution as such, but rather use a euphemism or synonym for it that keeps within classroom-friendly limitations, such as "legalized adult services" with an image showing a red light and a pole or something.

We only have the images that you see on unlocked banners and in issues (and I'm not sure any of those include a pole and red light). Any viable suggestion for a new banner image would have to be a horizontal image, royalty- and license-free. Also, those suggestions would probably have to be made in Technical.

But I wouldn't write an issue solely hoping to see it lead to a banner policy (because I'm really not sure on that). Write an issue because you have a story you want to tell, because the topic interests you, or because you have an option you really want to see included in the game.

Indeed but I'm sure such a thing could be arranged fairly easily, given the volume of images out there now that do not have such restrictions on them. Even creating an image from scratch would be fairly straightforward, just take a photo of a red light in a suitably gaudy lamp, and a vertical stainless steel pole with the background bokeh'd sufficiently.

To answer these in order: Indeed, yes I do, it does, and I can think of a few.

#106 is currently the only dedicated issue on the subject. It assumes that prostitution is currently illegal or heavily discouraged and asks to legalize it, so a counterpart issue would need to assume that prostitution is currently legal and figure out consequences that would arise from that.

#935 and #1106 also mention prostitution in passing, but aren't really addressing the core subject.

It's likely to be the other way around. If you write a quality issue on the subject, the game staff will be more likely to put in the effort to implement the policy it requires.

We already have visible policies for such controversial sex-related things as No Sex, Marriage Equality, No Abortion, No Adultery, (Compulsory) Nudism, Polygamy, and Sex Education, not to mention non-sex-related touchy topics like Slavery and Cannabis. What makes prostitution, a practice which is legal in many real-life nations, shocking enough to need censoring compared to those?

Out of existing banners, p62 and p46 seem like reasonable candidates.
