What unwanted state does your nation carry and why?

To some extent unwanted states are a kind of veracity. Everything goes wrong in real world politics, too. The interface of culture, government, and economy is the sort of complex beast that the gerrymander tries to fight with, and countless other constructs as well. The ways that things go wrong in NationStates are parodic, but the occasional Big Blunder is par for the course.

"We'll fix it eventually" is a good attitude to take towards the flaws of any nation.

I accidentally instituted a human sacrifice policy when I chose to let all criminal convicts get thrown into a volcano to sate certain religious groups instead of conventional execution. I finally got rid of it a while ago.

The No Sex policy is misnamed (it's a known problem), as it actually bans sexual reproduction, not recreational sex. So that one actually makes sense.

In fact, a big part of the reason for monogamy in human cultures (and pair-ponding animals) is that it keeps a child's parents together so they can properly take care of the kid, and also keeps everyone who isn't the child's parent (and so wouldn't be as invested in the kid's safety) out of the family. Without sexual reproduction, the logical need for monogamy really goes away (though we'd probably still have an instinctive desire for it anyway).

My nation has been showing an income tax for the last several months. It's only 1.2%, but it's supposed to be zero tax. I keep waiting for tax cut issues to come up, but lately, they haven't been. I had it at zero tax for years, and this little splinter of taxation that cropped up really bugs me. It was cool to have zero tax because I always RP that there isn't any income tax in this nation, and it was nice to actually have the in-game stat matching that.

I also can't seem to get my government to be corrupt enough no matter how many bribes Leader Megatron and his cabinet gobble down. It's the Decepticons, dammit - corruption should be ubiquitous; the highest in the WA stats! While we are in the top 0.8% on that stat, there are still 1,202 other nations that are even shadier than we are, and that's no good for a people whose name literally means Deceptive and Conniving.

I know! In fact, OOCly, one of the top three things I like the most about the G1 Decepticons is that they tell you what they're about right up front, blatantly raid oil (thereby giving the defenders a sporting chance to get their weapons out), and otherwise are NOT very Deceptive or Conniving regardless of the name!!

Still, ICly, I think that #1 in Corruption would go along with what the name implies that it should...regardless of how they'd actually go about things.
