Discussing Issues

Postby Difnis Atali » Fri Jan 25, 2019 10:09 pm

So, when I started this game I believe I read in the help section that players can go onto the forum or discussion boards and discuss the issues that they encounter. This seemed very interesting to me, as I want to see how other people think about these things or what interesting unorthodox solutions they have to these things. However, I've been up and down this forum, and the site in general, and I cannot find anything like a discussion of options. Is there a page I am not seeing? I used the search button.

I know there are thousands of regions and probably some of them have active players discussing issues, but there is no way to search for a region that I could find. I did find a page that has a tag cloud and a list of region names - interesting that there is no way to access this page other than by clicking a link in the help section, I would think there would be a direct link in the menu for that. However, other than region names and how many nations they have the page shows nothing. I am not able to see a short description of the region unless I actually click on it. I can't click thousands of regions, shouldn't I be able to search the description field for a specific word I'm looking for?

Can someone help me navigate this site? At first glance it seems very disorganized.

There is no thread for generally discussing issues. I'm pretty confident that Mods don't like lots of nonspecific discussion threads around. There's one general chat thread allowed in General (which a light apolitical chat thread for OOC, RL stuff) called The Eternal Thread

If you have a problem with the outcome of a specific issue, go to the Unusual Effect Thread. That is a help thread only.

If you find an objective spelling, grammar or suspected macro error with a specific issue, go to the Help Us Fix Old Issues Thread. That is also a help thread only.

If you find a new issue that has never been reported by anyone before, or an option to an issue that has never been reported by anyone before, go to the Spoiler Thread. This isn't a general issues chat thread.

If you'd like to discuss an idea for a brand new issue, check out the Writer's Block. This is also not a chat thread.

If you want to write a new issue, open a new thread.

I don't ever see a general discussion thread being permitted here.

EDIT: If you want an issues region, you'll be looking for a region with the tag "Issues Player". If you want somewhere to discuss, look for an active RMB or possibly the tag "Social". I suggest you look around a few to get a feel for the region that works for you; not every issue playing region discusses issues much -- so it's worth taking that into consideration when looking for a home for your nation.

EDIT 2: This link should help you find issue playing regions and work from there:

I believe you're looking for "Got Issues?"

viewforum.php?f=13

You can start a new thread about whichever specific topic regarding the issues you'd like. But do search the forum to see if your topic and/or query has already been addressed (there's a search tab at the top right of the page)

It may not be as straightforward as you were hoping -- it's just a list of the latest topics posted, and the majority on the first page are drafts for new issue ideas. And the topics are often discussing the content of the issues, rather than what you seem to be looking for, which I believe is discussions about how to make choices. But you could just make your own topic regarding your particular issue.

But here is an example of a single-issue discussion on the first page:

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=458017

EDIT:

considering the above post by The Free Joy State, I guess I'm wrong...

It is a bit chaotic because there are so many different things going on.

We don't have a general thread to chat about issues, but people do occasionally post in "Got Issues" to discuss an issue that caught their eye or confused them. The primary purpose of "Got Issues" is drafting new issues, but if there is an old one you especially wanted to talk about, tell us which one and share your thoughts.
