I think this concept is fine, but it needs to be written more clearly.

"How to get rid of the excess food" isn't the main problem with food waste. The problem is the environmental impact of growing the food -- destroying habitats to free up land for farming, use of pesticides and fertilizers, excessive water consumption to irrigate the fields, etc.
Don't take life so serious... it isn't permanent... RIP Dyakovo and Ashmoria

I agree that most of the energy to make food is an issue but the reason I view that food waste is important is that that energy to make the food is going nowhere and is instead releasing methane potent greenhouse gas into the air making it the third largest polluter in the world.
I do agree with your stance so I'll remove option three and rewrite it to include your point.

Basically, what Monitor said, plus this. Line break removed by yours truly.
New Ladavia wrote:Title: Climate ache Out of all the titles you could have chosen, why "Climate ache?" It's not witty and it barely has anything to do with climate change. One thing's for sure, the title of my critique might as well be called "Head ache!"

Dear Tinhampton
I appreciate your constructive criticism I will submit the third draft to change most of your issues. I was going put a good by dates in as a choice but thought it would be better as a sperate issue. thank you for your insight on making this issue more available to all nations. Most of the punctuation errors I would fix before submitting as this is only a draft. And for the work used to make the food check the spoiler option 3
And you are right that methane emitted by cows is a big issue but if global food waste was a country it would be the third largest emitter of greenhouse gases (I stole that fact from a UC Santa Barbra article). And the fact it is like a sales pitch:

most of issue #1086 sounds like a sales pitch but if there are any ways you could think of to give disadvantages I would be open to suggestions. On a final note, the title and first effects need work I put it together so I could submit it in this forum

Thank you USS Monitor and Tinhampton for your comments. They are much appreciated

That's because it's about how (and what part of) your nation should sell itself to the world; it most certainly does not try and tell people which option is right or wrong for your nation. For the record, we traditionally display the most recent draft in public and previous drafts in spoilers, not the other way around (we don't want people doing my job again, haha!).

That's a different angle that would work, and actually would not need such a restrictive validity.

If you went that route, you'd want more emphasis on economic inequality and the fact that some people struggle to provide for their families while others are throwing away perfectly edible food. Talk about how people want their fruits and vegetables perfectly shaped, so the funky-looking ones are just getting thrown away, etc.

But it's really up to Ladavia whether they want to do that or keep the environmental focus. Both ways are perfectly legit issues.

Worth noting that food waste has been covered before, from the angle of freeganism (#546
Dumpster Divers Dividing Denizens).

It's a major enough topic that it's fine to have more than one issue about food waste, but be sure to read that issue and keep overlap minimal.

Keeping the climate change angle helps maintain that uniqueness, but my problem here is that the narrative as it stands doesn't feel like it needs the climate change angle to work.

Can you please edit your OP to include the most recent draft?

I still think food waste is a viable concept, but this is not ready to submit yet.

A Tim Horton's analog instead of Moonbucks would be fine if it had a funnier name and was clear from context that it was a coffee/donut shop.

In this case, I think it might be better to just say "grocery stores." They would probably be affected more than coffee shops, and it avoids the problem of referencing a brand that some people might not recognize.

Ach... I'm sorry if I am turning into GI Snotbag here, but I hate the way this is framed. What does food waste have to do with money laundering?

Nothing, there was an investigation into the government because of the money laundering and that revealed that legislators were ignoring the issue of food waste(I know I said legislators and that doesn't apply to a psychotic dictatorship). the point is that the food waste issue was found because of the investigation if you have a better idea feel free to say

Unless you have a socialist country, food waste is primarily a private sector issue, meaning legislators aren't at the center of the problem.

It just makes no sense how an investigation of money laundering would highlight a problem with food waste.

I'm not sure option 3 really makes sense. Using surplus corn or grain to make biofuels might be better for the environment than throwing them out, depending on what your nation's other energy sources are. You have to assume that if players don't use the surplus food to make biofuels, most nations will use other energy sources rather than just living with blackouts.

I think this still could be improved, but I'm not sure how to concisely explain what it needs. Leave it up for a bit longer to see if anybody else has suggestions, and see if you can think of a better title.

I hope this new title is a change for the better. Tell me what you think.
