Yeah, that's confusing and I can't see why it did it. Raised it backstage.

Taxes went unchanged. Freedom of taxes went up and all of my businesses dependent on taxes went down. In the past, this issue would decrease taxes.

EDIT: After reading the OP I guess I'm still confused, haha. Which kind of tax in this issue were they planning on cutting ? Maybe it needs to be reworded/updated.

Taxes did decrease, but not a large enough change to register, given your nations starting point. As you noted, the 0.09% increase in Freedom from Taxation and the -0.33% change in government size was measuring the same change, but at 14 billion souls, your nation is so well established and set in its ways that it's hard to see a lot of stat changes unless you go against your usual style.

Thanks for your dedication on explaining these issue effects!

Allowing Citizens to Possess Human Remains is Authoritarian?

Postby Phillywob » Sun Oct 01, 2017 10:42 pm

Name of Nation: The Free Land of Phillywob

Date: October 1, 2017

Issue: A Bone to Pick

Option 1: Citizens should have the right to possess human remains.

The effect I think is a bug: Authoritarianism went up 100%. What...?

Also odd but is only a minute percentage: Civil Rights went down 0.39%. I know it's not a very significant percentage but I still find it curious.

Right, that is the answer. Thanks La Badlandoj.

Can I remind people to see if any of the FAQ apply to their questions before asking them? Cheers.

In case it's not clear, the right to have your remains be free from post-mortem scavenging is a civil right relating to bodily autonomy. If I were to dig up your great grandma's grave to because I wanted to use her femur as a backscratcher, that'd be an infringement of her bodily autonomy right? I'm sure someone is going to say "she's dead, she has no rights", but the living have rights, and those rights include being able to decide what will happen to their remains in the future.

Read this please

Percentages are not necessarily the most accurate thing out there, and this is a good example. Your authoritarianism rose from 0.01 to 0.02, a very small change, but because it was already low, it seems like a lot percentage wise. You can avoid accidentally doing this by going to settings and marking the "show more stats" box.

323.2 Summit conference wants to take taxpayer money to pay for security. Chose option to not spend taxpayer money, yet ended up INCREASING taxes anyway and government size??? Police force went down, so I know I didn't choose the wrong one on accident. Ugh! I'm not going to have any more issues to answer if all of them only have one option.

I guess technically there is nothing wrong with the effects, but I am still frustrated.

In the compulsory gun ownership issue I picked the second option and it lowered weaponization. Explain please.

Weaponization correlates with Civil Rights. Therefore, restricting Civil Rights, for example by forcing everyone to carry a weapon, lowers Weaponization.

Weaponization also correlates with Crime. (Actually, that may be the same as above, since Crime correlates with Civil Rights.) Therefore, reducing Crime, for example by more potential crime victims having weapons for self-defense, lowers Weaponization.

Thanks for the report! This was an algorithm bug, now fixed, that affected a minority of nations across a number of census scales. It's related to the way that extreme values are scaled for display in order to reflect the increasing difficulty of reaching either end of many 0-100 scales.

There is firstly a primary scaling algorithm that applies to all underlying values. For nations very close to the extreme (roughly <1 or >99), there is a secondary, more harshly scaling algorithm.

The bug related to when this secondary algorithm would kick in: in asymmetric 0-100 scales, where the "natural" resting midpoint isn't 50, it could activate too late. In a nation that was steadily increasing its underlying score, this could mean that its displayed score rose steadily toward 100, then dropped back half a point or so around the 99 mark as the secondary algorithm activated, then continued to increase again (more slowly). It also meant nations could be ranked out of order, as one nation could incorrect display a lower score than another purely because it had first reached the point where the secondary algorithm would activate.

The bug didn't affect any underlying values, but rather the way that those values were displayed and used to generate ranks.

The secondary scaling algorithm now applies correctly in all cases, so that an increase in a nation's underlying score will always be reflected in an increase in the displayed score. Due to the fix, some nations with scores around 99 who should have been under the supervision of the secondary algorithm but weren't will see a one-off decrease of about half a point, usually less.

Option 6 in issue 631 does not abolish the death penalty, nation is ROFLOLMAO LAND. Also doesnt give the message it should, it gives "the Violet Mile now refers to the long line-ups that former death row inmates wait in as they transfer to maximum security prisons" rather then "International humanitarian organisations are applauding the government for ending the death penalty."

Specific Puppet?

The cheap child labor also will be displacing more expensive adult laborers.

Hey, I believe I am going to stumble on more in the near future.

The one that I got the most recently was NationStates Issue No. 613 "A Nude Day, A Nude Awakening...".
When I chose third option, I lost civil rights points which just isn't right.
It allowed them to do things that might be frowned upon by others, which wouldnt lessen their rights. If anything, it should have boosted the rudeness by quite bit.
