Yes, it's common for us editors to borrow names from elsewhere that we liked. Since chains take so long to edit, certain names can appear early within other issues.

So it's not a country, but I see a lot of issues referencing "VODAIS". It's obviously a parallel to HIV, but what does it actually stand for?

Also, Prudenlund is very likely representing Denmark.

I've added a small note about that to Prudenlund, as well as a note about Maxtopia likely being an ancient civilization, given it used to use hieroglyphs. (I'm guessing probably Egypt given other elements but I don't want to jump to conclusions.)

Also updated the list from issues 1431 to 1451. Added 9 instances of nations appearing in an issue (each time a one-nation occurance!).

I've always seen Maxtopia as a hybrid of Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

New nation for list: 'Tiquitaca'... The issue arises because a Tiquitacan restaurant that opened recently in your capital city serves the meat called 'cuy.'.. which is guinea-pig.
The name is taken OOC from that of RL's Lake Titicaca, which lies on the border of Peru & Bolivia: In the submitted draft it was actually a "Titicacan" restaurant involved. Cuy is eaten in Peru, at least, out of that pair of countries. The issue's author intended the nation to represent primarily Peru. This is also a shout-out to classic [1950s] British radio comedy series 'The Goon Show', in at least one episode of which a country named 'Titicaca' was mentioned. (Other episodes featured diseases called 'Spon' and 'Lurgi', both of which have already been referred to separately in earlier issues by other authors: "the Spon Plague" in #107, and your "Minister for the Dreaded Lurgies" in #179... although the "Lurgies" reference could have been made without direct knowledge of the Goons, because that name actually became a colloquial term for [undefined] illnesses.)

This issue also attributes particular dishes to two nations that already existed in issues, as well: Skandilund’s reindeer hind cutlets with eyeball sauce, and Tasmanian fermented platypus eggs.

Ausonia: First appearing in #1193: Relocating the Living Room, Ausonia is a nation with a very small military that you've discussed invading for more land for your nation. A lot. It's probably a reference to Austria.

Ausonia is an old name for the Italian peninsula, possibly also used for Italy as a whole, derived from the name of one of the pre-Roman tribes there (probably because this tribe, living as it did in the peninsula's southern end, was one of the first groups there encountered by the Greeks).

This is found in 1101.2 and though it does not have any background info, it could refer to the region in Eastern France named Alsace. Unsure whether this is a nation or a province and if it has been mentioned, I am very sorry as I have not read pages 2-8.

I've just checked using the 'Search this thread' function, and you do seem to be the first person to mention this. It might be only an indirect reference to the place, because the word 'Alsatian' is more commonly used in the RL (at least in the UK) as the name for the breed of dog known in some other countries as the 'German Shepherd'... It was renamed back in WW1, due to anti-German prejudice.

My my my... it's been a few months, hasn't it? A good solid 7 at least, that's what. (8+ since my last post mentioning such.)

Well, just because I may've officially left drafting (at least for now) doesn't mean I've given up on these! It's just been... an unprecedented year of unprecedented inconvenience. But tonight I had a hankering to do something, so I finally got around to this. ;p

Small change: The title will now read the last date the list was updated, rather than "Now", seeing as my inactivity and luck could one day lead to my needing a replacement. Should anyone wish to take the reigns, please only do so after contacting me or if I have CTE'd; I do intend to keep this going for some time, still.

I did add "Romulan" to the list. We don't know what nation this is, but seeing as it's clearly a reference to Rome, I think it's safe to add it here as a one-off.

Lastly, I'd like to say that I thoroughly enjoyed every last issue added since #1500. I admit I thought there would be more, but I do know for sure that the ones added were all wonderful indeed.

Not to my knowledge, no. Not a great many issues have come up where India might be brought up where an existing nation wouldn't fit just as well, I'm afraid. On that note, I was a little surprised Sakura (Japan) was even added.

If you have an issue and want an India analogue, help yourself to create your own name; just keep in mind the possibility of using an existing nation for ideas that don't necessarily have irl counterparts, instead.

Hello which nations would seem best for a no no germany (WWII germany) and the netherlands as a monarchy im writing an issue i tried making my own nations which would have been bavariland (germany but it was unified by bavaria) and hullanlandia (literally the netherlands) but someone who i wont name for reasons is bugging me for trying to make my own countries to use

P.S if you think i should stick with custom nations could someone reccomend a way to incorporate som history into this description without making it too long
Description: Recently the re-militarized nation of Bavariland who has a dictator in power, has been going on a continental rampage invading several bordering nations and more, one of these nations is hullanland who is asking @@name@@ to let their royal family who fear execution, flee to @@name@@ for safety during the conflict.
