Hi Jutsa,

Thanks again for maintaining this list. It's very useful to editors too!

I noticed two minor things that I could contribute:

Jutsa wrote:Maxtopia:
along with probably being the owners of Maxay Airlines.

Technically, it's "Maxay Pacific Airlines". I named it after Cathay Pacific.

Jutsa wrote:Also, this:
A small nameless nation: Lead by an Emperor who calls himself "Supreme Leader for all Eternity", this small nation is under your sphere of influence, but still goes on a psychotic, genocidal rampage against the Bigtopians within their borders.
(I can't find the issue for this, and I'm convinced there are a bunch of little, annoying neighbors to your nation.)

The issue is #194.
FYI: Pogaria is pronounced like puh-GAIR-ee-uh

Updated! Thank you, Pogaria. :D

I'm afraid to say this, but I'm sure there are several other issues with neighboring nations that I forgot to add to the list...

It's about time I updated my list!

Six-ish new nations have been introduced since the last update.

North Palisade and South Palisade are at war with each other, with the player nation siding with South Palisade. What they're at war over isn't specified, probably to ensure the issue remains applicable regardless of the player nation's political leanings. Also not specified is if this is a recent schism or they've been two separate nations even before the war.

Haptu had a communist revolution that didn't last long, due to intervention of the United Federation. This is reminiscent of US interventions in many Central and South American countries, most of which were tropical but not islands, such as Guatemala, Brazil, and Bolivia, and failed attempts in Cuba (which actually is an island). Grenada is a proper tropical island nation which the US invaded to depose communists, but for once the regime they installed to replace it wasn't that horrible. And then there's Indonesia, but what exactly happened there is... messy. See also Kirkpatrick Doctrine, Operation Condor.

West Calypso is exporting booze or something.

Savoiia is a theocracy with strong anti-euthanasia sentiment.

Kawandaland has been accused of harboring terrorists (but there's nothing unusual about that).

I'm not sure whether I should count Cooper Goldsmith County, which exists (in #1032) only if the player nation allowed them to secede.

Between Manamana and Haptu, and maybe Calypso, I get the impression that the NationStates-universe equivalent of Central/South America is a super-Caribbean, all islands and no mainland.

In returning old nation news, Ausblic has made a splash in the world Calvinball scene, while Tasmania, despite its internal problems, is the previous champion.

Numerous other nations are up to the usual. I've updated my list for #940-#1061 (it's been a while!), minus #998 and #1060, which haven't been reported yet.

I don't know if someone already said that, but Wezeltonia is most certainly Argentina. The issue where they claim a remote island owned by the player is probrably a reference to the Falklands/Malvinas.

Between that, coffee beans, and what I suspect is them being a great power, I'd not be terribly surprised.
If anyone can confirm or deny this, though, I'd be delighted.

Yes, I have. Partially.

Would have put out a proper map of @@region@@ as a whole (plus what I think of as "Othercontinentia", because some of the NPC nations are very clearly not even in @@REGION@@), but then Savoiia broke the logic.

If Savoiia broke the logic, then Despojanbourg must've broke the fabric itself.

No, it doesn't.

*Warning: Full explanation incoming*

First, to bring everyone up to what I discovered/read into the issues up to that point; the basics of @@NAME@@'s neighbours are this (according to how it was up until issue 1004, this may have changed or been contradicted in the 80 issues since then):

Direct North: Brancaland (partially, the eastern half of direct north is ocean. Also, it's likely a panhandle, as Skandilund is just north of that)
North-East: Ocean
East: Most of it ocean, but Althaniq is possibly a peninsula sticking out here (this was a bit weak, Althaniq's always been a bit ambiguous).
South-East: Blackacre (and there is reason to suspect that there is a tiny, nameless county straddling the coast between the 2 [think Uruguay vis-a-vis Brazil and Argentina])
South: Bigtopia (and there is good reason to think that at least one of the tiny, nameless countries is wedged between the Bigtopian and @@NAME@@.)
South-West: Maxtopia
West: United Federation
North-West: Lilliputia (and one of the tiny, nameless nations might be wedged between the 2, though that's quite a weak case).

Now, this worked out more or less until 1004 came along, because Savoiia is specifically a neighbouring theocracy. Which means that somewhere along @@NAME@@'s already busy border, this new place has to be crammed in. Worse, it seems that politically, as a general rule, the further north you go, the more secular and democratic the nations are getting in @@REGION@@... which would put Savoiia as a country somewhere on the southern borders... which are the busiest of all.

Compound that problem with the fact that Savoiia can't be a tiny country- after all, they have the audacity to not only to try and directly contravene their clearly enormous neighbour's euthanasia laws, but then the ambassador also has the confidence to sprinkle holy water on the doctors and call them 'capricious'- again, not the actions of a tiny country's ambassador.

This might be fine... except that they are also not worshippers of the Order of Violet (their pro-life stance quite at odds with that human sacrifice and holy war happy religion). Religions and cultures tend to be... messy, to be sure, but peoples tend to take inspiration from their neighbours. So unless these guys are doing an Ethiopia, you'd think they would be violetist. And if they are doing an Ethiopia, then there has to be some geographical feature stopping their neighbours... just not jungles, mountains or deserts, because those biomes are completely comfortable to the other peoples of that area.

So now we have to try and find a way to fit a respectably-sized, non-violetist theocratic country into the busiest border of @@NAME@@. Yeah, a bit hard.
.
.
.

Meanwhile Despojanbourg is explicitly tiny, and isn't explicitly a neighbour. So they could be just about anywhere where there are mountains.
