[Discarded] Aristocratic Atrocity

Postby Jutsa » Mon Jun 05, 2017 7:42 am

Uh... hello, again!
... I'm aware of how bad I am at making issues, so uh...
here's one I'll drop off, and edit to your liking,
and if one of you'd prefer to take off with the idea then feel free. :P
Also, I have no idea if something like this already exists or not.

Name: Aristocratic Atrocity
Description: Many of @@NAME@@'s citizens have been distressed about who gets into political office - and how, and for once you've actually held a meeting for various representatives to discuss the problem rationally instead of breaking into your office.
Validity: Nation is not a dictatorship, Nation is not socialist, Nation is neither super corrupt nor super integral

[option]A relatively jaunty and formally dressed fellow, @@RANDOMMALENAME@@, comes to you, gives you a handshake, and makes his peace. "The citizens of @@NAME@@ feel that... well, political campaigns are just too expensive. Only the rich and influential can get in office, nowadays - no offense. I think we'd be better off if a restriction were put on spending, so even the not-so-rich have a chance. Uh... That is all, thank you." He retreats back to his seat.
[effect]most citizens have no idea who they're voting for

[option]A less-so jaunty and even more formally dressed lady, @@RANDOMFEMALENAME@@, comes to you, nods, and keeps her hands to her side. "The thing my husband so happened to overlook was the fact that politicians need to see people face-to-face - and that takes money. Limiting the budget is not the answer. Instead, the government should give politicians extra money to run their campaigns - that'll make everyone heard." You glance at the badge on her suit which says to vote for her this election.
[effect]more money is given to candidates than the impoverished

[option]The wall behind you suddenly lowers. An incredibly formally dressed Sir @@RANDOMLASTNAME@@ makes his way in via gold-coated limo as fireworks explode in the background. You recognize him. "Dear @@LEADER@@, I must inform you that aristocracy is truly the way we should be heading. Think about it! The wealthier you are, then obviously the more successful and important you are. And who better to run the country than someone everybody knows and trusts?" A large pile of gold chains falls out of his coat.
[effect]the government is now ruled by the rich and powerful

[option]"Hold up right there!" Your now unhinged office door falls out of the ceiling - with your brother following it. "If you refuse to be an evil dictator then at least let us tax political campaigns so much that almost noone else has a chance!" Everyone stares at him. "Come on! I really want a new mega-mansion! Please, do it for me! I beg of you!" The crowd then proceeds to chase him out of the building. This is why you hate meetings.
[effect]"redistributing wealth" is what keeps its leader in power

Edit: Also somehow I wound up in a completely different topic when I clicked to make this? Sorry about that.

You're not bad at making issues. I am a published author and I will still ocassionally make worse drafts than this. But wouldn't corruption be a validity?

Aw, thank you! Well, I suppose corruption could be, if you'd prefer. Again, I'm open to suggestions or total reworks. :P

Added integrity and corruption as boundaries if at all possible.

Before we get into the text of the options, let's get into the beginning where it's most important to get it really solid.

The description is awfully vague. What's prompted people to become concerned about how people are appointed to office? What's the inciting incident? People don't just wake up one morning and start thinking about it. Has there been a recent spate of shady appointments? Was there an undercover report about the shady side of politics conducted by a newspaper? Be a bit creative with the description so everything makes sense while having that pizzaz that's needed to grab the editors' attention and get them to grab it from the submission pile.

You're also going to have to make sure it doesn't overlap with other issues. The two big ones that come to mind are #555 (especially this one) and #594.

Also, the title isn't very accurate. Aristocracy is class-based, especially as a society where there is nobility with titles. This seems more like Cronyism.

I'm not seeing how corruption is a needed validity with it written as is. Unless the issue is geared specifically towards one side (corruption/integrity), I think it'd be better to make it for a more general audience.

Well, I don't see how I can pull any strings to get this one to not interfere with those two issues.

Therefor, this draft is now discarded - unless anyone else can find a way to salvage it.

"Dismissed" is a special term in the issues world, made for a time when you don't want to an issue but you don't want it clogging up your current list of issues. A term like "Discarded" or "Abandoned" would be more important.

I note you've discarded this, but I think you may have royally missed the point on what Drasnia is saying.

You avoid overlap by changing the draft of the proposed issue, not by trying to get the existing issues changed.

Uh-oh... I think I may have misused the term "pull any strings".

I meant that strictly in the sense of pushing and pulling things around in the issue I proposed*, like... tweaking it,
not like manipulating the editors. I do apologize that it appeared that way, I assure you that I have a hard enough
time even asking people for their opinions let alone the nerve to tell higher ups what to do.

Edit: On that note, if you can think of a way to tweak the issue, by all means go for it!
Edit2: THE ISSUE DRAFT, Not the existing ones this interferes with!
