[SUBMITTED] 1x, 2x, 3x, A Lady

Postby Candlewhisper Archive » Mon Mar 21, 2016 4:01 am

Name:

1x, 2x, 3x, A Lady

Description:

In the workplace, it's been historically true that many careers have a significantly lower representation of women than men, particularly in the fields of engineering, technology and science. Independent magazine Women's Problems Monthly has engaged in a root cause analysis to investigate, and their conclusion is that the major contributor to this is young women losing interest in mathematics between the ages of 11 and 18, with a knock on reduction in applications for mathematics-based jobs or university courses.

Validity:

Not high Inclusiveness

[option]"There's a cultural poison at the root of this," complains ardent replica sword collector @@randomname(female)@@, "where boys and girls get assigned toys, magazines and hobbies according to arbitrary societal expectations of gender roles. [option]"Leave our kids alone! Boys and girls are different, it's just opportunity that needs to made more equal," says tiara and pink-ballgown wearing nuclear physicist @@randomname(female)@@. "It's in higher education and the workplace that the old boy's club mentality exists, and it is self-perpetuating. A reasonably moderate quota for education and employment, to ensure neither gender represents more than 70% of intake will help even things out. Those who meet the quota should be rewarded with financial incentives, directly funded by fines on those who don't."

"Women's talent exists, but young ladies too often think that it is unfeminine to be ambitious. Probably shouldn't be valid for any nation that's chosen option 368.4 (women in charge).

Because firefighting and soldiering are tasks that require a sophisticated understanding of higher mathematics?

This isn't legal in every nation.

For that matter, I have no clue how gender reassignment and gender-based quotas are even supposed to work together...

Good point. Changed to a hexgrid wargame.

Re: gender reassignment not being legal, I thought about this, and figured legality didn't prevent this from being a possible effect. I suppose I could add a criteria for transgender legality. It seems a shame to lose this effect line as I think its a crazy unexpected effect that has a strange sort of logic to it.

This was a real problem for mathematician Emmy Noether. She finished her doctorate, but was prevented from getting a PHD.

6 month thread necro?

While I appreciate that you're looking over my old drafts, that's probably not a good use of this forum.

For the record, this issue is sat in the staff pool, along with all many many others!
