help please: source of state-owned industry?

Postby Candlewhisper Archive » Tue Dec 22, 2015 7:17 am

Some time in the last few days I've gone from 70% Private Industry, 0% State Owned Industry to 0% Private Industry, 70% State Owned Industry.

Not that I'm bothered with either scenarion, just bewildered as to which issue caused this:

My recent logs are:

8 hours ago: Following new legislation in Candlewhisper Archive, citizens are allowed to rise or fall based on their own merits.
20 hours ago: Following new legislation in Candlewhisper Archive, birth rates have hit an all-time low.
1 day 8 hours ago: Candlewhisper Archive was reclassified from "Corporate Bordello" to "New York Times Democracy".
1 day 8 hours ago: Following new legislation in Candlewhisper Archive, companies struggle to cover for the hordes of employees on parental leave.
1 day 8 hours ago: Following new legislation in Candlewhisper Archive, only AI know why the nation is rapidly increasing its semiconductor stockpile.
2 days 8 hours ago: Following new legislation in Candlewhisper Archive, the native owl population is in permanent hibernation.
2 days 8 hours ago: Following new legislation in Candlewhisper Archive, government buildings are being cleansed for anything that might have racist connotations.
3 days 8 hours ago: Following new legislation in Candlewhisper Archive, a weakened police force struggles to maintain law and order.
3 days 20 hours ago: Following new legislation in Candlewhisper Archive, schools have extensive counseling programs for troubled students.
4 days ago: Following new legislation in Candlewhisper Archive, the military recognizes no difference between male and female soldiers.

Is it the one in red that has done this? Thinking it may have been #472...

If so... AWESOME.

It's not the one in red, it's this one:

This is what happens when you outlaw capitalism.
INTP, -4.25 Economic Left/Right, -4.1 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian, tastes like chicken.
I do use NS stats, thank you very much.

Hmmm, I'm sure I wouldn't have picked an issue that outlaws capitalism.

Do we know which issue that was by any chance?

Issue #4: Economic Collapse Looms! More specific, option 4.1.

No, that "effect" is from another issue. And it doesn't outlaw capitalism. Having an AI do all your economic planning though? Seems closer :p

I might have gotten the issue wrong, but I know that that is an effect that you can get when outlawing capitalism.

Yes. You now have entirely AI-owned industry, and the AI is owned and maintained by the state, so you indirectly have state-owned industry.

No, that's stupid and wrong. This is what happens when you choose not to establish nobility (#061 option 2).

Rising and falling based on your own merits (including, at the extremes,.your own ability to cheat and swindle people) is kind of what capitalism is about.

That sounds like direct state ownership to me.

Fair enough, thought it was the AI one.

After being broadly pro-market in my choices, I just couldn't resist any option that involves high-tech solutions, no matter how radical.
