Issues that help environment but don't hurt economy?

Postby Zaldakki » Wed Dec 18, 2013 11:46 am

Are there any issues that will help my environment, while not hurting my economy. I have a goal of 100 for my economy, and I'm at a 98 right now. But my environmental ratings are extremely low because of this. It seems like every issue I get that can help my environment would also hurt my economy.

Most environmental issues are detrimental to your industries and economy. However, off the top of my head, there are a couple that have a benefit. One of them involves promoting organic foods, and the other I believe saves your rainforests for the sake of tourism.

There's an issue to privatise beaches, which helps it whether you sell them to entrepreneurs or keep them under gov't control. Clearly, however, only the first option is economically beneficial.

Otherwise, just pick issues that spend a lot on enviorns with no connection to business. The economy calculator doesn't factor in taxes, so those are effectively irrelevant to everything other than happiness.

Actually both options to that issue increase the economy since both.boost tourism (and the second option increases tourism more). The first option does so without increasing taxes or government size. It also marginally increases business subsidation and lowers eco-friendliness slightly. It is one of the few issue options that increase environmental beauty while lowering eco-friendliness.

I would suggest not to use zero sum analysis when playing this game but to take a more long term view. You have to break some eggs to make an omelet.

Now hold up, that's a little extreme. Some of the environmental issues harm your economy; not all.

The ones that I haven't noticed having an impact on your economy:
*Privatize Beaches,
*Supreme Court Appointment,

Also, most left-wing options sometimes come with environmental bonuses, and they typically don't harm your economy if they don't specifically tell you they harm your economy. The same is true for other issues, some harm your environment a little, but their impact is so small it's not worth worrying about.

Hmm, yeah. "Get Efficient, Private Sector Tells Nature" is a bit of a funky issue, and I've recently learned to avoid it entirely. Something about it throws me off, and I end up dissatisfied in choosing. I've found that choosing to fund public beaches more doesn't quite affect your environment as much as other green issues. Choosing to privatise them isn't really a Green route per say, so I'm not sure where you were going with that one. That issue strikes me more as a Public versus Private dispute. And I forgot about the Supreme Court Nomination. It always pleases me to see that one: it almost seems like a freebie, the way it's so straightforward.

Anyway, I didn't think I was being all that extreme. I wasn't speaking in absolutes: I said most. A dozen issues as compared to three or four. Speaking as someone who always picks the green route while trying desperately to turn my economy around, it is a very formidable obstacle and manages to knock the wind out of my sails (sales :p) whenever I think I've made a substantial gain.
