[Draft]Uni or Bi?

Postby Ceolciarog » Fri Sep 27, 2013 2:37 pm

This is my first attemot at issue writing, here it is:
Description:Recently, citizens have come to you supporting the abolition of the legislature's upper house, the @@NAME@@ Senate of Lords.
Validity:Not for nations without legislatures, or with a unicimeral legislature
[option]@@RANDOMNAME@@, leader of those supporting the abbolition, bursts into your office. "The Senate of Lords is just an archaic body. They're not even elected, they're chosen by some college, or even worse, born into their seats. It makes passing laws that the people want a lot harder. And think of all the money the government could free up by not paying their salaries. They're old, stuffy, obstructionist, and opposed to change. I mean, Senate even means "old men"! I bet they smell like it too!"
[effect]there is now a unicimeral legislature and legislation is passed faster.
[stats]political freedoms increase moderately

[option]"Now hold on there, you whippersnapper," yells Lord @@RANDOMNAME@@, Grand High Chamberlain and Lord Duke Chairmain of the Senate of Lords as he is wheeled into your office. After a 20 minute rambling speech with flowery language and archaic expletives, his squiresummarizes it for you: "The Senate of Lords serves an important part in our legislative process. It gives more time for debate with important pieces of legislation. Also, you can't take away their sala- I mean a piece of @@NAME@@'s history. In fact, the Senate should have more power. Elders know what is best for this nation better than the youth majority!"
[effect]some legislation takes years to pass.
[stats]political freedom decrease moderately

[option]"Well the Senate may be archaic," says one of your advisors, "but it does serve the important function of regulating the lower house. Perhaps we could replace the Senate with an elected upper house."
[effect]there is now an elected upper house.
[stats]political freedom increase slightly

[option]"Why do we even need a legislature?" asks a shady man in the corner. "You know what's best for the country, @@LEADER@@, you should abolish all legislature and declare yourslf sole ruler."
[effect]@@LEADER@@ is now sole ruler.
[stats]political freedoms decreased greatly, to around zero

So, what do you guys think?

The most immediate issue I see is that there are right and wrong options. Either a clear decrease, or a clear increase, no unexpected consequences.

Being Irish myself, and looking at your name, I wonder where you got the inspiration for this issue!

Regardless, your validity wouldn't work. We don't keep track of which nations have legislatures and of those nations which have uni, bi, or even tricameral ones.

Yeah, I could see a problem with that.
(And PS, just of Irish descent, but proud of it!)
