Hiatus is over. Back to work!

Jk jk, but yeah, I'm back. Sort-of. There's no chance in the Netherlands that I'm coming back with the same force and vigor that I had before, but I genuinely do want to try to finish off the rest of my drafts I had up here and maaayyyybeeeee get just a couple written and/or rewritten.

But genuinely, if I'm caught spending nearly as much time here as I used to, there's something very wrong. I should have neither the time, energy, or desire to do that.

I was thinking about time zones lately, and I was wondering if there were any issues out there that covered China's policy of having one time zone across the whole country (which definitely deserves more than one time zone), and if not, how that could be written up into a full issue without covering similar ground to the Daylight Savings Time issue (and potentially other time-related issues)...

Just a word of note, daylight saving time is actually covered in an issue. I think it's 821 or 801 or something like that.

But I do like the idea; have one, big, unified time zone, vs. having several time zones, vs. letting towns make up their own individual time zones... xD

Indeed, it was #821 "A Switch In Time Kills Nine". (#801 was "Animation Provocation", the one with Sword Heroins: Love Needle.) And of course I knew about it, that's why I brought it up lol

That issue does have an option to switch everyone to using sundials, and it does bring up how that means that every town will have its own local time... I was considering that option initially, but I hedged when I thought about #821... I'll see what I can come up with and how much I can differentiate it from #821.

Hello all!

So this is something I have been meaning to bring up for a while. As someone who is rather fanatical when it comes to having the right policies on a nation, I have noticed that over the years that some of them are very difficult to add or remove, mostly because they have VERY specific requirements to receive the issue to do so.

In this case, I would like to draw authors to the attention of the policy "DNA Harvesting". I have always had the issue to add the policy, but never have I once received an issue to remove it (and I have been wanting to for a long time). Unfortunately, I know not the requirements to get the only two issues (#499 and #666) that remove it.

So with all that being said, I am wondering if there is anyone who is willing to write up an issue that is a lot more relaxed with the requirements to remove the policy. I am not a very good writer when it comes to issues (I have tried before and it never turns out how I want it), so I hope there would be someone here who would be up to the task.

Calvinball appears to be based off of American Football given that there's an issue there about concussions. Maybe even a hint of rugby, but concussions are much more prevalent in the former.

Actually, Calvinball is a reference to a sport played in the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes. And because that it has ever changing rules in the comic, it's safe to assume that it is a mix of tons of different sports.

I have an idea for an issue, but I don't know if you guys would like it. The issue is about anting the wrong types of trees in the wrong places. Something akin to the Great Green Wall before it was modernised and they started growing the proper vegetation, or China's great green wall, but I intend for my issue to be broader than that, and expand into more places where the tree can be a nuicanse. What do you guys think?

I don't think China's Great Green Wall constitutes a "nuisance." Also, it does not have trees being grown in the wrong place. Based on what I've read on it so far, it seems this project was more or less successful, in fact.

One issue that can arise from "wanting/planting wrong types of trees in the wrong places" can be related to how much water/maintenance a particular kind of tree requires. For example, insisting on cultivating plants (not necessarily trees) that eat up too much water could be problematic if the region where they are planted has an arid climate. This is both financially and environmentally a bad idea. In short, if you live in Arizona, maybe you should grow cacti, not willow trees.

I think there could be an issue on that.

I've been thinking lately about the possibility of an issue based around environmental racism, specifically about the significantly higher amounts of hazardous waste sites near minority communities. Some quick digging showed that someone did attempt an issue around the topic back in 2015, but it seemed narrow in options and hasn't gone anywhere. There are already a wide variety of issues surrounding the environment so would something like this be considered too much overlap even if it focused more on the minority impact? This is my first time venturing into the land of issue writing so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Overlap has to do with specific issues, so as long as there isn't another issue that focuses on environmental racism, that seems like fair play to me

I'm currently in the process of writing an issue, and was wondering if it was possible to have a "doppelganger description" to an issue, and not just "doppelganger options", as in, changing any words of the description of an issue dependent on criteria of the nation given the issue. I would really like to have this feature in the issue I am writing, so, I hope it is possible. Thank you!

Unfortunately not at the current moment... although there is precedent for there to be two issues which would otherwise be identical were it not for the description. Perhaps draft it out on the forums first so that we can see what your description is?

How feasible would an issue about promoting a national sport would be? It could include the most popular irl sports as well as those created on NS (like @@ANIMAL@@ball).

I’m thinking of writing an issue that sorta mirrors the American 2020 election, where the leader’s opponent is accusing the leader of rigging the election against him. The only thing I need to come up with is a title.

You could extend it to opinion polling. My take on it would be that a survey done before an election shows that 80% of citizens of @@ANIMAL@@ Province or whatever would vote for @@RANDOMNAME@@ even though @@HE@@ is unpopular both in the news (if free press) and the internet (if [free] internet).

You could name it "We Do a Little Polling"

On my mind is making an issue related to the various completely unclaimed bits of land in the world, most notably Marie Byrd Land, a vast stretch of remote Antarctic ice sheet with no sovereign jurisdiction.

Do we have an issue where, say, a @@DENONYM@@ scientist is murdered out there and now the question is who or how you can prosecute the killer.
