Issue 478.3 mentions building parking lots, even if the nation receiving the issue has the automobile ban policy in effect. Perhaps a variant of response 3 could be written?

Issue #599 (Dead in the Water) is about fertilizer-fueled algae blooms. It shouldn't arise in nations with negative agriculture sectors. Where is the agricultural run-off coming from in Steelfeather Rapture 2? This issue needs a new validity check so that it only arises in nations with agriculture.

Forcing the nonexistent farmers of SR2 to add chlorine bleach in proportion to the fertilizers they use shouldn't do anything to the weather or environment in SR2, because there are few if any farmers in the nation, yet I bet the game isn't coded to have the issue's effects on stats vary based on the actual strength of agriculture. You might want to check into that, if you can alter the issue's actual effects.

Interesting one that. There's very little consistency in checking to see if agriculture exists before assigning issues about agriculture. I guess there are real world nations with near-zero agricultural land, though none have actually zero, and almost all of those have strong geographic reasons for lacking agricultural activity, which the presumed geographically diverse nations of NS would lack.

Having said that, the metric used to measure agriculture in NS is not % arable land, but rather the productivity on a fictional "Mu-Bah-Daggs Productivity Index", and so a negative number on that index doesn't necessarily mean there's no farms, or no intensive farming, just that productivity is poor.

That in mind, I'm inclined to leave that one as it is, though as I said, we're not terribly consistent on checking agriculture as a validity anyway.

Negative agricultural industry could mean that all of your farms are subsistence farms, rather than producing a surplus?

This issue shouldn't occur for nations with cloning vats, because of this issue effect from option #1: increasing numbers of children in @@NAME@@ have different eye and hair color to their supposed fathers
While that kind of shift would make sense in a liberal cloning regime, it wouldn't make sense for it to have anything to do with subsidizing milk distribution.

Nations with vats will now see a different effect line.

We have decided that detention centers for non-citizens can potentially exist in nations that don't put their own citizens in prisons.

P.S. Please change your "random" name selector, as the third option (which betrays liberalism) was "randomly" assigned to "Judas". The top one, which defends the rights of business owners, was "randomly" assigned to "Rand".

Non-capitalist nations will now see a different version of that option.

For reference, the random names are indeed random. Coincidences happen.

Non-motorized vehicles still need places to park.

Issue 474, "Mesozoic Park", which has a wealthy billionaire want to build a theme park, is somehow available to me even though I'm socialist with Very high income equality. How is there a wealthy billionaire?

The wealthy industrialist in question need not be from your nation. In Jurassic Park for example, John Hammond was the British CEO of an American company, but the park was in Costa Rica. The billionaire is simply looking for a place where they can buy an island and set up shop.

#472 Rise of the Machines is supposed to have a bottom option that crashes scientific advancement, per this: https://nsindex.net/wiki/NationStates_Issue_No._472
However, it does not, and per this: http://www.mwq.dds.nl/ns/results/472.html
We see that almost nobody uses that bottom option, suggesting that it rarely shows.

"The AI want what now?" panics @@RANDOMNAME@@, your most paranoid minister. "That cannot be. Clearly the AI are plotting the destruction of our society. It's a slippery slope from sentient toasters to Cylons! If we don't want them eventually overthrowing us, the obvious solution is to shut them down."
What is the actual validity check for this issue option to appear?

Steelfeather Rapture 1 wrote:We see that almost nobody uses that bottom option, suggesting that it rarely shows.

I would raise another explanation - the whole issue is valid for nations who've already given AI citizenship, and these players are less likely to choose options that revoke their decision.

This is part of the problem with cliche "BAN IT" options - they only show up for people who haven't banned it. If every AI issue has "wah, ban it!" as an option, then it gets very tiresome as a player with AI to keep having to not ban stuff that you're clearly not interested in banning.

(Also worth noting that Trott's engine only picks up 1 datapoint every ~4 seconds, and only non-WA nations, which severely limits the accuracy of the "how many people pick this" stat. Still cool though.)

If the issue is valid only for nations with AI citizenship, why did I get that issue? I'm sitting here with "Rise of the Machines" in my issues queue, trying to work it into my nation's narrative, and you're saying it only shows up for nations who have given AI citizenship?

Then, I raise this as a bug report for HUFOI! Why did Issue #472 "Rise of the Machines" occur for the nation of Steelfeather Rapture 1?

There is no bug for Rise of the Machines. You do not need AI citizenship to receive the issue. If you are not seeing a certain option then it means you are not eligible to receive that option.

Issue No. 212 Police Wanting Help With Their Inquiries opens with:
delayed DNA evidence put a notorious rapist behind bars

This wording doesn't suit nations which have the policy of No Prisons. A more suitable turn of phrase for such nations could be "delayed DNA evidence brought a notorious rapist to trial".

I'd also like to raise that my previous post in this thread appears to have been overlooked. viewtopic.php?f=13&t=158858&p=39432897#p39432897

Ah, yeah, that's my bad, apologies for the confusion everyone - it's just that one option that's only valid for nations with AI citizenship. Same stuff about players who've explicitly done something not often reversing that decision still applies, though.

In that case, it's definitely worth noting that the validity on #472.5 is documented in the spoiler thread on this forum, which is updated much more frequently and should generally be considered a more authoritative resource than NSIndex.

Issue 528 describes a man shooting down a drone, but I have guns banned. I doubt he used a bow and arrow, especially since i banned those too, so isn't this incorrect?

Good catch. Some nations don't have trials either, so I made a slightly different adjustment to the text of this issue.

Zinertia wrote:Have today received issue No. 1370 All Systems Post-Nominal in a nation with the policies of Socialism and Universal Health Care.

Surely such a scenario would be a criminal case rather than a dilemma for the government to handle?

An individual providing medical advice for payment from the patient is in contravention of both the aforementioned policies.

A criminal case also involves a part of the government, right? Anyway, lots of issues ask the national leader to weigh in on topics that might be beneath their notice in real life, but that's the nature of NS.

Did you also ban trebuchets, slingshots, and javelins? :)

We don't track whether a bow and arrows are banned.

Issue 462, option 2:
A man in yoga pants pauses stretching to remark: “Excuse me, do you see what I’ve got going on here? I can’t be walking this down unlit streets at night. I can barely do it in the daytime. Keeping the lights on at all times will make Merni feel safe and welcoming for everyone, not just the heavily armed.” He adjusts his gym bag, which clanks.

Should that be "I can't be walking down..."? I don't see a reference to him walking anything (such as a pet) down the street.

The "this" is himself, I think. His body.

Issue No. 600 Making a House a Home has references throughout that don't make a lot of sense in a nation with a No Automobiles policy.

In the issue intro:
After the street outside your personal residence proved incapable of handling a diplomatic motorcade...

In the first option:
Imagine if the ambassador had been run over by that party bus!

In the third option:
You can drive, or take a cab, or hire a personal bus at your own cost.

In the fourth option:
Why not get yourself a mobile home and tour it around the country

All three of those options work fine for horse-drawn vehicles. Horse-drawn buses, carriages (for the "drive yourself" bit), cabs, and caravans, all existed historically in some RL nations and presumably could have been adopted by your nation after you banned cars.

Issue number 1044 says:

“Me fail grammar? That’s unpossible!” chimes in your easily amused Education Minister Erica Pigham while trying to balance a pen on her nose. The Education Minister is quickly pushed aside by your always-angry Defense Minister, who looks like he is about to have an aneurysm. “Who are these nerds and brainiacs to tell us how to run our country? The people voted us in and we ought to respect that. So what if I don’t have some fancy-schmancy diploma? It’s just a piece of paper. Any citizen should be free to run for office, regardless of how smart they are.”

That line is one of dozens, possibly hundreds, that are deliberate quotes, references, or parodies related to popular media. It is no coincidence that a character named "Pigham" is channeling a character named "Wiggum" :-)
