Yes I tried asking them but they don't seem bothered about reporting it themselves, hence why I am here, as I asked them if I could report it for them instead and they said yes.

The person could just be mistaken, I'd considered that as a likely possibility but thought it still needed flagging up just in case. Since the issue has been checked and everything appears in order then we can probably just consider this matter dealt with.

Thanks.

That's fine. I'll ask them again to see if they'd be willing to do so, but if not then we'll just leave it there. As I mentioned I suspect that it was just a mistake on their part anyway.

I can see that you do, indeed, have State Press and that doesn't seem to have changed recently.

A nation with State Press may receive this issue, but should only receive three options. If you received three options (as peeking backstage suggests you should have), everything is fine -- even government-run papers can go into the red if no-one wants to buy them.

I've just received issue #380 in this nation (for the first time, I believe). However, I think this issue wasn't supposed to appear to a nation with the Socialism policy (especially given the text of option 3).

It is possible for Socialist nations to deal with external companies that run according to capitalist principles (McDonalds' trading in the USSR springs to mind).

That said, talk of "messing with the free-market" makes little sense in a socialist nation. So, I think a couple of minor tweaks may be called for.

https://nsindex.net/wiki/NationStates_Issue_No._499

Just wanted to bring up issue #499 linked above with the eligibility requirements, this issue on six nations that I own which have chosen option 3 for issue #212, but never once over the past two years have I received issue #499 on any of them. My guess is that it is because I already have the "Parental Licensing" policy, but should this not affect the eligibility of getting the issue? and if so, surely wouldn't option 2 of #499 just not be shown like some other issues do with redundant options? It would seem a bit wrong to block the opportunity for people to go back on the "DNA Harvesting" policy on this issue because of an entirely different policy is in effect.

Thank you for your time.

Removing option 2 from the issue would be detrimental to the way it currently reads as option 3's speaker reacts to option 2's. Doing so would require new option text at a minimum, which isn't ideal.

Applying any negative word to a minority is likely to be regarded as offensive. That is why there are laws against hate speech in many RL settings.

Option 1177.1 begins thusly:
“It was rigged!” screams Lauren Smit [@@RANDOMNAME_1@@], head of the Tinhampton [@@NAME@@] Football Association (TFA [@@NAMEINITIALS@@FA]).
Why is an abbreviation for "@@NAME@@ Football Association" offered in Option 1177.1 when said abbreviation is A: seemingly not intended to have any comedic effect and B: not used anywhere else in Issue 1177?

FA is a fairly standard abbreviation of "Football Association".

Also, removing it seems like a stylistic change, and this thread is not the place to suggest stylistic changes. It is the place to point out objective errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation and suspected errors with validities and macros.

I only just revived the nation so I don't know if there's actually a problem here but, when I revived Equalito, I found that it had issue 77 in queue (I haven't answered it yet). Equalito has five easter eggs at the moment, so I'm not sure it hasn't received the issue previously. My custom fields are tailored for several easter eggs, so it is possible I got two more easter eggs at the same time I received 77, but I wanted to give you all a heads up in case something funky is happening.

#1454: "a parasitic fungi endemic to Brancaland"

"Fungi" is plural, "fungus" is singular. So it should be either "a parasitic fungus" or "parasitic fungi" (depending on whether the word is interpreted to refer to the species, or the organisms).

The nation has not received issue 77 prior to now, so it looks like everything is working fine.

Just got issue 766, the first position is from a "business tycoon" who talks about "Glurpone companies", even though this is a socialist nation.

Technically, it is possible for there to be companies in a socialist nation. However, the way the option is worded, overall, has a distinctly capitalist flavour. So, changes have been made.

Changing tenses mid-sentence may be less than ideal, but it isn't definitively wrong here. Therefore, I think this is within the bounds of acceptable usage.

Pogaria wrote:Changing tenses mid-sentence may be less than ideal, but it isn't definitively wrong here. Therefore, I think this is within the bounds of acceptable usage.

The sentence in question actually starts out in "Future in the Past" tense and the usage of "will" seems completely out of place there. Unless I'm tripping or misreading the sentence somehow.

Full sentence quote with applicable verbs highlighted:
Imagine if we adopted a similar pictorial script that portrays modern @@DEMONYMADJECTIVE@@ life; there’d be no more arguments over whether the writing needs a semicolon or a colon, and the younger @@DEMONYMPLURAL@@ will feel a lot less threatened.

"Would" should definitely be used instead of "will" here. The only Present tense verb here is "needs", and it belongs to a separate subclause. The simplified structure of the main compound sentence is "If we adopted [...], there would be [...] and [...] would feel [...]".

Ahoy ahoy - have another grammatical one -

Issue 445 "Evasive Maneuvers"

The text for the first option (Choice 0) ends with:

"the mere idea that a change in which behaviours to reward, and that my organisation should finance that change retroactively, amounts to legislative tyranny."

The first statement - "the mere idea that a change in..." does not agree with "amounts to legislative tyranny." At a minimum the word "that" in the beginning needs to be changed, but I think it would maintain the meaning better if the clause about retroactivity were moved to keep the argument the same:

Suggested solutions -

Just changing the word so it reads: "the mere idea of a change in which behaviours to reward..." would fix it grammatically, but makes the argument completely bonkers and self-contradicting.

Moving the clause so it reads: "the mere idea that a change in which behaviours to reward can be applied retroactively, and that my organization should finance that change, amount to legislative tyranny" would resolve both the grammar and the logic, and I think is probably what the intended meaning was when written.
