it’s disappeared from 20 or 30 fragments, and become an endangered species.

Grammatically, that is
it has disappeared from 20 or 30 fragments, and it has become an endangered species.
which is correct.

"becomes", perhaps?

As SherpDaWerp says, in context it's fine.

I got issue 99, "We Need Cash, Sharpish, Say Librarians", about two days ago. The second option doesn't make sense for socialist countries, and should probably either be validity: capitalist only, or have a doppleganger..

It's fine. The issue has a "manager" of a bookshop, not an owner. There's nothing preventing socialist nations having businesses.

In fact, the Soviet Union had a McDonald's at one point.

No change is being made.

I love the recent edit for 462 option 2. Much more relatable for developed-world Milennials and iGens than the previous version about a homely overweight woman.

A woman in yoga pants pauses stretching to remark: “Excuse me, do you see what I’ve got going on here? I can’t be walking this down unlit streets at night. I can barely do it in the daytime. Keeping the lights on at all times will make Flora Formosa feel safe and welcoming for everyone, not just the heavily armed.” She adjusts her gym bag, which clanks.

While we're glad you like the issue, this thread is not the appropriate place for this kind of post.

This thread is not for general issue-related chit-chat, but only for reporting visible objective errors with grammar, spelling and punctuation, and potential errors with macros and validities.

New changes to pre-existing issues go here (but as this has been reported there, that's not necessary)

For the issue 'Some Like It Hot; Others Don’t' can a new option for the government to back private companies likely to solve the climate crisis be added?

Suggestions for new options don't belong in this thread. This thread is for objective errors with spelling, grammar and punctuation and potential errors with macros and validities only.

If you have an idea for a new option that you would like to see, I suggest you write out a draft option and take it to The Writer's Block to see if you can generate support for your idea. If it gathers support there, further down the line, you might wish to make a thread and -- depending on reception there -- it may get taken backstage for discussion, where it may/may not be added.

It's worth mentioning now, though, that new options are only added out of necessity, and never just for comprehensiveness.

Issue 817:

"Following her admittance one week ago, Heather McCormack was arrested at Dove General Hospital this morning, charged with attempting to procure her own abortion. Crowds have been clamouring for her immediate release and others — including the would-be father, calling from the cell her testimony put him in — are demanding she be punished with maximum vigour."

Shouldn't this be "calling from the cell HIS testimony put HER in?"
The woman Heather is the one who went to jail so she wouldn't testify against herself right?

The implication is that he raped her.

Which, in any sane country, whether pro- or anti-abortion, would pretty much disqualify him from having any say in the resulting baby's future, but sanity has never been a priority in this game.

It's never explicitly confirmed in the issue that the case indeed involved rape, but the text of the second option does also hint at it.

The text is correct is it currently stands. Trotterdam is right, the implication is that Miss McCormack became pregnant as a result of rape, and that is why the father to be is in a cell.

Trotterdam wrote:It's never explicitly confirmed in the issue that the case indeed involved rape, but the text of the second option does also hint at it.

Text of the first option, too: "Of course, Miss McCormack had a trauma, but why..."

I get that now but it doesn't really read like that. I asked someone else too IRL and they agreed, the meaning is too vague and that sentence has way too many clauses/parts. There should be something more explicit in there for the reader because the implication she was raped is too cryptic as it is. If you disagree that's fine but it would definitely be better if edited.

Actually, Trotterdam is not an Issues Editor and -- as I'm sure he'd be the first to tell you -- does not have either the access or ability to amend issues.

He would not be the one to make that decision.

As for it being "cryptic", a deliberate decision was taken to handle the potentially delicate subject of pregnancy resulting from rape with sensitivity, and that was taken by the team at the time of publication. I see no need to change that.

Thank you for raising this. The issue has been amended. Socialist nations can no longer receive it, as the first two options seem to be working from a capitalist perspective.

The effect of 684,4 contains steak, which is inappropriate at a nation with compulsory Vegetarianism, since they are not supposed to have any steak, I assume.

What, you've never heard of tofu steak? I hear it almost tastes like food.

In the effect line of 1295,1 I feel like there's a "for" missing?
Lawyers spend as much time preparing their make-up as they do for their briefs.

Otherwise the "as much time ... as" feels a bit cut. Or is it just my bad English there?

No, the sentence is correct. "their make up" and "their briefs" are both things they're preparing.

“There’s no need to get your unmentionables in a twist aboot this,” suggests eccentric Brancalandian talent agent Mike Shatner with long pauses between his words. “I’ll have you know that actors are one of Brancaland’s primary exports.
