Issue error

Postby Bilsa » Wed Jun 07, 2017 5:17 pm

I get this issue:
Due to the ever-increasing traffic on Bilsa’s highways, commuter tempers are flaring, leading to an increase in road rage related accidents. A recent case in which a very impatient driver attacked and seriously injured a slow driver has brought the subject rapidly to the highest levels of the government.

The Debate

“The problem is that our highway system is sorely in need of an overhaul,” claims social commentator Ayla Croft. “Bilsa’s highways were constructed with a far smaller number of cars in mind, and we’ve exceeded that traffic load by a substantial amount, resulting in traffic jams. Traffic jams lead to impatience, impatience leads to anger, anger leads to road rage, and road rage leads to violence. We need to expand the freeway system by adding more lanes to relieve the traffic congestion.”

Accept

“You add new lanes, even MORE people will drive, putting us right back at square one!” counters Evan Kim of Bilsa’s public transportation committee. “Instead of throwing tons of money at a short-term solution, why not spend it on improving bus and rail service and encouraging carpooling? Oh, and get more highway patrol officers to crack down on these violent drivers who pose safety threats to the rest of us.”

Accept

“*BLEEP!* that *BLEEP!*” Catherine Gratwick yells at the top of her lungs from the window of her very large pickup truck with a gun rack mounted in the rear window. “The government should just *BLEEP!*ing stay out of our daily *BLEEP!*ing drive! They ought to let us *BLEEP!*ing rushed businesspeople go about our daily *BLEEP!*ing business, no matter what *BLEEP!*ing measures we have to take to get to *BLEEP!*ing work on time!”

But the problem is that in my country cars are absolutely banned so should check it

You reversed that ban just yesterday in fact when you picked this option of #73:

"Well, it's extremely difficult to drive my son to and from school and his after-school sports," comments soccer mom @@RANDOMNAME@@. "But I don't want my boy inhaling all those icky fumes. I say bring back cars, but put some effort into finding cleaner fuels and the like! Who cares if it costs a small fortune?"

Effect: 1 day 13 hours ago: Following new legislation in Bilsa, the government is spending millions on alternative clean-burning fuels.

Now I've got this great mental image of a surprised Leader looking out of his window...

Leader: "What? Why are their cars everywhere? They're illegal!"
Aide: "Uh... you reversed that ban yesterday sir."
Leader: "Oops, knew I should have read those documents I was signing..."
Aide: "Yes, sir. Also, I have an e-mail from a Nigerian Prince, thanking you for sending those bank funds, and asking if you can send more."

#736

Option 1:
. . . passport photos, social security numbers, fingerprints AND iris-identification . . .

Option 2:
. . . contributes convicted child strangler, hate-crime inciter, and vote fraudster . . .

Inconsistent use/omission of the serial/oxford comma. Personally, I prefer the oxford comma but as long as it's either used or omitted consistently, I'll be fine.

EDIT:

Option 4:
. . . notes Selma-Jessica Rios-Zhu, one of your aides,” but it must be . . .

The quotation mark is closing on aides when it should be opening on but.

Fixed, thanks.

Though as I just removed a serial comma, YMMV with the definition of "fixed". :)

well, there were several serial commas in the issue so adding one would have been simpler . . .

For Option 677.2, the effect line should say "capitol" instead of "capital."

Don't know when and it's not so easy for me to look up, but you've unbanned cars at some point.

Option 595.1: "Cameras. Cameras would be good. [needs to be a comma]" intones Patrol Officer and jungle war veteran Ingmar Poindexter, twitching nervously and scanning the skyline for rooftop snipers. he [needs to be capitalized] takes a moment to look a thousand yards into the distance. . . . "

Added.

Period changed to comma.

Didn't see a way to force capitalization on that macro, so I reordered the sentence to "After taking a moment to look a thousand yards into the distance, he continues, "

Ransium figured it out, capitalized it.

Effect line corrections on the new chain issue:

On the first issue, "carefully-staged" and "front-page" should be hyphenated.

Later on, "for enemies" is preceded by two spaces instead of one.

So on that note, in #741:

Has serial comma:
2. detention for interrogation of their family members and known associates, a low threshold of probable cause for initiation of investigation, and freedom to act in the name of national security without being tied up with paperwork
3. personal data of the suicide bombers, any video footage, and basically anything else you can get hold of relating to that day
3. a lever long enough, a place to stand, and one million unpaid volunteers
7. good old-fashioned coppering, boots on the ground police work, and maybe properly paid overtime
7. asking friendly questions, getting people to open up, and doing the legwork with no shortcuts

Doesn't have serial comma:
4. phrenological face-mapping, gait-profiling and chromodermal analysis
6. cable ties, sack hood and jump leads

I might hyphenate "properly-paid" too while I'm at it.

EDIT: Or "boots-on-the-ground", for that matter.

Pardon my asking, if this has already been established, but the first option of issue #006 [I think; the appointment of spiritual adviser]
declares that the character is a catholic archbishop. I'm just wondering, since the catholic religion and Christianity in general
may not be existent in the nation - especially if they're of another planet - if maybe changing that would be for the better?
