And easily resolved as per my suggestions, but shrug. It doesn't reflect poorly on me if it reads badly.

I was ponderously reviewing issues, as is my wont, and happened to stumble upon a typographical error.

The potential error is highlighted in red.

The Empire Strikes First

The Issue

Reports indicate that several neighbouring nations are engaged in major weapons programs in contravention of international law and treaty, focusing public discourse on HotRodia's foreign policy - specifically, its position on preemptive strikes.
The Debate

"We need to hit back hard at these terrorist scumbags!" roars General Mohammed Dubois, his face turning purple. "I say that we treat any illegal weapons program by these nations as an act of war! Granted, a preemptive strike will likely cause a war, but if these foreigners won't abide by international agreement, they have to be kept in line, for the good of our Modified Acceleration Engine."

Diplomatic bureaucrat Anne-Marie Bronte remarks calmly, "There's no need to go off half-cocked. It would be much better if we used some international body - the World Assembly, say, or a Texas tribunal - to investigate these rumours objectively for us. That way we have the international community on our side, and no one can accuse us of playing judge and jury. It will be well worth the extra diplomatic costs and bureaucratic red tape."

"If these countries don't respect international law, why would they respect international agencies?" wonders political analyst Hope Hamilton. "Our neighbours are acquiring these weapons for a reason - because no one wants to pick a fight with a country that has weapons of mass destruction. The solution is simple - if we have WMDs of our own, they won't dare to strike at us. It may seen mad, but in this crazy world, it's the sanest thing we could do."

Noted pacifist and tambourine artist Sarah Schultz replies, "As usual our nation's proud leaders can only see violent solutions to our problems abroad. Wouldn't it be refreshing if they focused on achieving peace through communication and accommodation, rather than force of arms? You may call me a dreamer, but I'm not the only one – wait, sorry, I've heard that somewhere before."

The Government Position

The government has yet to formalize a position on this issue.

Issue 312, option 3.

3."If these countries don't respect international law, why would they respect international agencies?" wonders political analyst Agnes Dodinas.

Sophie Hamilton, head of Licentiapacisterra's chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous, says that drunk drivers need help. "Alcoholism is a nasty thing, a disease. The government has to help these poor souls to avoid the temptations of liquor, and wine, and beer, and hard cider, and brandy, and?" His eyes get a glazed far off look, "Where was I? Oh right, we have to help these people, not imprison them."

I know you don't use gender-specific names, but maybe replace "His eyes" with "Their eyes", so that it makes a little more sense.

On the subject of gender bias in issues, 'Software Giant Stomps on Competition' refers to a male in each option.

Actually, the random names used in issues weren't gender specific.

So should they be gender specific now? Because in the issue I received at today's major it wasn't fixed.

The following is from the issue, The Empire Strikes First. The mistake has been bolded. I believe it should read "seem" or maybe "be seen."

Reports indicate that several neighbouring nations are engaged in major weapons programs in contravention of international law and treaty, focusing public discourse on Welsh Cowboy's foreign policy - specifically, its position on preemptive strikes.

The Debate

"We need to hit back hard at these terrorist scumbags!" roars General Tim Jefferson, his face turning purple. "I say that we treat any illegal weapons program by these nations as an act of war! Granted, a preemptive strike will likely cause a war, but if these foreigners won't abide by international agreement, they have to be kept in line, for the good of our NDP-Governed State."

Diplomatic bureaucrat John Dodinas remarks calmly, "There's no need to go off half-cocked. It would be much better if we used some international body - the World Assembly, say, or a The Humanitarian League tribunal - to investigate these rumours objectively for us. That way we have the international community on our side, and no one can accuse us of playing judge and jury. It will be well worth the extra diplomatic costs and bureaucratic red tape."

"If these countries don't respect international law, why would they respect international agencies?" wonders political analyst Colin Frederickson.

Noted pacifist and tambourine artist Ella Yeats replies, "As usual our nation's proud leaders can only see violent solutions to our problems abroad. Wouldn't it be refreshing if they focused on achieving peace through communication and accommodation, rather than force of arms? You may call me a dreamer, but I'm not the only one – wait, sorry, I've heard that somewhere before."

Issue #222, 'Terrorists Strike City Centre'

issue 222 wrote:"They simply crossed the line!" shouts General Maria Sparkle. "Far too long have we tolerated these terrorist threats, it's time that they realise they can't mess with us. Send the order to prepare an invasion, and we will show them who is boss! Our brave soldiers are prepared to die for their country, all we need is your signature and a lot of money. But what is the cost of freedom and safety for Of the Free Socialist Territories' peoples?"

I think it should be "For far too long..."
Also, "We'll" sounds better than "We will", in my humble opinion. Hope this is of help.
Don't be deceived when our Revolution has finally been stamped out and they tell you things are better now even if there's no poverty to see, because the poverty's been hidden...even if you ever got more wages and could afford to buy more of these new and useless goods which these new industries foist on you, and even if it seems to you that "you never had so much" - that is only the slogan of those who have much more than you.

Affectations of grammar and speech are part of the issue design, not errors. I think they look fine.

Option 1 of 'Buy a Better Baby':

1.) "Embryo selection isn't really genetic engineering in the technical sense," explains Dr. Tim Cheswick, owner of the Babies-2-Go Clinic. "It's more like being able to have a dozen abortions per month until you get the foetus you desire. I can't really see what's wrong with parents who can afford it being able to eliminate foetuses with undesirable genetic traits - like stupidity."

I'm pretty sure it's spelled fetus/fetuses.

Issue #294, Option #3 - Ghost Riders on the Sly:

Issue #294, Option #3 wrote:"Look, this is how things have always worked," Klaus Hendrikson, the CEO of Cheesemongers Unlimited, Ltd. "Representatives' time is both finite and valuable. Do you have any idea how many bills there'd be if each one could only have one aim? Legislation would come to a stand-still! Yes, it can be prone to corruption, but find me a government that's corruption free and I'll eat my shoe!''

There's a complete absence of a verb, which is necessary, in the bold, underlined bit, which disrupts the issue.

Strange Trend Results

Postby Fabrim » Sat May 26, 2012 4:19 pm

So, two issues I got recently have had weird results. Neither of these makes sense to me.

The first is, in the issue where people talk about killing whatever your national animal is, I made mine a protected species instead of allowing people to just shoot them or make them into burgers. This resulted it my economy dropping from 42 to 28, a whole twelve points. For reference, abolishing tariffs in my nation raised that by only four points. What does outlawing the killing of my national animal have to do with economics, anyway?

Second, got that issue where some people try to make gun ownership mandatory. I decided to pass concealed carry laws, which I would assume would raise civil rights, since it's allowing people to bear arms and all that. However, instead, my nation's political freedoms dropped a point. Somehow, by allowing people to do something, I lost a point in a completely unrelated category. It just doesn't make any sense. It didn't even affect civil rights either.

Anyway, yeah. Those are the two major issues I've found so far. Neither of these really make sense, so I'm assuming they're not supposed to work this way. Another strange thing was that allowing companies to sponsor sports teams didn't raise economy at all, but that's comparatively minor.

Issue #022 Nazi Sympathizers Plan Rally...

When I allow a Nazi rally because my nation is a Nazi dictatorship, it says that freedom of speech is held dear. Although this is useful to our propaganda ministry, I am not sure it is a great idea to have an issue that equates Nazism with freedom of speech. The issue only makes sense for nations in which Nazism is socially unacceptable. There are many players on NS that have authoritarian nations in which a Nazi rally would be allowed for reasons that have nothing to do with freedom of speech.

I have the same problem with my authoritarian puppets. Just pretend it says something other than nazism or dismiss it. We can't make issues fit every nation perfectly. Sorry.

Plus that's a Barry issue. Can't change those.
