I just got issue #273, the "is our children learning". I understand someone's trying hard to make a joke at G. Bush's expense, but it still reads like the writer is illiterate. Can someone fix it?

You got the issue with randomly selected names, of which "George W" is one of many first names and "Bush" is one of the lastnames. It just happened to come up with whatever offended you.

I think he's talking about the title. I don't think it's going to change any time soon.

No one addressed either concern because those names are not in the issues themselves. In both cases, you had an unlucky draw on the @@RANDOMNAME@@ table. It's quite possible no one else in the game ever saw that combination in that place, nor ever will again.

I'm not guessing, by the way - I just looked them both up.

1. Why is the name of a religion (or @@FAITH@@) "on the @@RANDOMNAME@@ table"?

2. My only source for the coding of issues is Ballotonia's thread; and, according to it, the name "Norma Roe" is used in Issue #268 rather than @@RANDOMNAME@@.

Tough. It's humorous.
Furthermore, the Catholic Church opposes the death penalty.

See above answer. Additionally, it's not like the Catholic church has never put anyone to death.
Also, no one ever addressed this concern:
*snip stuff about Norma Roe*

Again - funny. You can't expect to wipe everything that goes against the Catholic church from the issues.

Your concern wasn't addressed because it wasn't viewed as something to be concerned about. I haven't replied to all the suggestions here - though when I next work on a list of fixes, I'll review all the posts. However, the suggestions you've made will not be incorporated - they're neither necessary nor desirable. End.

On I believe #171, is says "Kids And Criminality: Whose Responsibility?", when it should say "Kids And Criminality: Who's Responsibility?

'Whose Responsibility' is correct. 'Who's (Who is) Responsibility' doesn't make sense.

Whose Responsibility? or Who's Responsible? would both make sense, but not Who's Responsibility?

okay not sure what format you'd want this in but.
The Issue

After the vast fortunes of a recently deceased oil tycoon in Eadesiopia were left to a small cactus plant, citizens nationwide have been asking the same question: should the inheritance tax laws be changed?
The Debate

1 "Every time I see a stupid rich kid having an easy ride of life with money they did nothing to deserve, I go into a jealous rage and start punching walls," says economically disadvantaged individual Larry Woolf. "Abolish inheritance entirely! If the government takes the inheritance then we can spend all that cash on things that make ordinary people's lives better, like education, social welfare, and attack helicopters."

2 "This is a disgusting breach of my human rights," says George W. Silk, heir to an international widget empire. "Just think of all the poor families who have spent their lives scrimping and saving with the dream of passing on a modest luxury yacht to ensure the security of their children's children. All that sacrifice, all that toil, all those long nights working their fingers to the bone setting up offshore accounts - it brings a tear to my eye. Inheritance tax has got to go!"

3 "Surely we can arrange some sort of compromise here," says comfortable knitwear fan Roger Broadside. "Yes, it's true that some people exploit the system - but a lot of people rely on inheritance for their basic support! Why don't we just set a sensible ceiling on how much you can inherit? That way you get to keep the family farm, but not the five mansions and the oil refinery."

The first option says inheritence has to go, and then so does the second option. Shouldn't the second be a guy saying it should stay?

You've misread it. The first is having the government take away the inheritance (via a tax), the second is removing all taxes on inheritance.

Issue 233

Government Acts

The Issue

Members of your intelligence service have captured a spy gathering information in the civil service. Your interrogators have learned that the man known only as 'Solo' is acting on behalf of the government of Outer Bigtopia, which denies all knowledge and involvement.

The Debate

"Shpies! There are shpies everywhere!" says Agent Prudence Obama, checking the fruit bowl for bugs. "You can't trusht these foreigners! They act all nice and local and then BAM! They're away over the hill with military shecretsh. We should be keeping track of all of them with ankle braceletsh and wiretapsh to be sure they won't betray ush!"

"I don't think we need to go quite that far," says Secret Agent Finlay al-Zahawi. "Our security is fine. We did catch him after all. The real question is how much did he tell the Outer Bigtopian government. If we send our own spies to gather intelligence and, in light of recent events, bolster the funding of the intelligence agency, then we can learn for sure the intentions of our enemies."

"And where will that get us?" asks Al Falopian, one of your older, more bitter spies. "Spying them back won't help us. If we send someone out there and THEY get caught what are we going to do? We should call those Bigtopians out on their scam and hit them were it hurts! Diplomatic sanctions will do for starters; we can throw those smug envoys out on their rear ends! Anyway, it's almost certainly not just Outer Bigtopia up to these kind of shenanigans, we ought to keep all embassies under police surveillance. We risk all sorts of trade sanctions, true, but it pays to be careful."

"Do you realise what kind of havoc we would cause on an international level if we confront them about this?" asks Tobias Christensen, an ambassador to Outer Bigtopia over a secure satellite link. "No one need ever know this happened; officially that man doesn't exist. Most nations have some sort of espionage programme; it's nothing to raise a fuss about. We should just quietly execute Mr 'Solo' and move on."

"But what if he discovered the plans I've been assembling for the moon cannon project?!" asks Brigadier Charles Rubin, one of your more insane military officers in a hushed whisper. "It's nothing official, something I've been doing in my spare time... but what if they've got wind of it?! We could all be in mortal danger! We've got to commence construction right now! Our esteemed leader, do I have permission to get Project Lunar Apocalypse underway?"

"Moon... cannon? Mortal danger? You're off your rocker," says General Flowers, scowling as he leafs through the budgets folder. "The reason we're being spied on is because we've become so aggressive and militant! It's only natural that other governments are going to check up on us. If we don't want to get spied on then there should be nothing worth looking for. All we need to do is massively reduce military expenditure. If nothing else, it at least puts more money into people's pockets than into the construction of glorified death machines."

There seems to be a missing comma in the issue 'Two Mommies One Too Many?':

"This just doesn't go far enough in my opinion," grumbles Jazz Monarchy an ardent opponent to homosexuality.

Please look into this. Thanks.

•16 hours ago: Following new legislation in Phonencia, legislators work 24/7 due to an influx of single-issue bills.

why on earth did this cause my civil rights to PLUMMET from 92 to 85??? I spent a lot of time getting my civil rights rating that high and suddenly, BAM, back down to 85 for no logical reason other than, the issue is buggy. mind fixing?

It was your political freedoms that dropped, which seems perfectly justified, given the option you chose.

right, political freedoms sorry, I get Civ Rights and Polit. Freedoms rankings confused at times.

it still doesn't seem to make sense to me as it's prohibiting politicians from achieving a non-public agenda by tacking totally unrelated resolutions/decisions onto existing bills. if anything it should increase political freedoms as it ensures that when people vote on a bill, the bill is what it says it is. am I the only one who feels that way?

They no longer have the freedom to craft bills the way they would like. Hence: political freedom goes down. Though it would surely rank higher on the transparancy and simplicity rankings.

That choice mandates that every law can only have one aim. That's a double-edged sword.

That's NationStates. Unintended consequences abound.

It's only seven points. You can bounce back. Even if it were 100 you could bounce back.

As for an error in Ghost Riders on the Sly, the third choice is missing the word 'says' or something to that effect. Not a huge deal.

Issue #120: Two Parties For Too Long? [Ren Yi; ed:Sirocco]

Option 2:

"People are afraid to support 'third' parties because they're afraid of seeing the 'bad guys' get elected," says @@RANDOMNAME@@, a ballot stastician. "But if we changed the system to allow preferential voting, where you can have your votes divvied up among your other candidates if your favourite doesn't recieve a certain number of votes, then that wouldn't be a problem. Then you could let as many parties as you wanted into the game. Deserving candidates wouldn't be harmed - they'd win! Maybe a few radicals would get through, but that just proves what a great system it is!"
