This option now provides an appropriate boost to the patriotism stat.

However, for future reference, this thread here is the proper one for reporting stat problems.

Seanat wrote:Issue 868 option 3 says "I don’t want to risk losing my supply of Brancalandian goose down coats over this!" which goes against my nation's Autarky policy, but on top of that, it probably isn't tracked, but in another issue I answered to make animal based clothing illegal.

That statement does seem like an autarky violation, but I will confer with the other editors regarding the best solution.

You are correct that banning animal-based clothing isn't tracked.

Seanat wrote:Issue 146 shouldn't be possible to get with the Atheism policy.

You're right. I changed it so that atheist nations will no longer receive this issue.

Hello there, I just reread my "You're Psychotic, @@LEADER@@!" issue (got it on an alt). I was wondering if the first instance of WA in the description could be changed to "World Assembly (WA)", simply because I'm not so sure everyone who gets the issue would really understand what "WA" means until they read it in option 2.

A colleague pointed out that autarky wouldn't prevent someone from sending the coats as gifts, nor would it prevent the speaker from visiting Brancaland and buying a few.

Basically, importing things for resale or distribution is prohibited under autarky, but accepting foreign gifts or bringing back something for personal use is fine.

I would agree that more clarity might be needed. I changed it.

I’ve recently gotten a #873 Terrified Testimony!, and would like to ask a couple of questions regarding why did I got this issue in the first place.
How exactly is a “sinister cult” able to operate in a nation with a large and well-funded police force, as well as, generally, a very low crime rate? Moreover than that, my compliance rate is within 1% of world, and as such I doubt that anyone would even think of joining such a cult, let alone allowing them to take positions of power. I believe that crime rate also includes organized crime, and as such the mere existence of such an organization seems somewhat absurd…

The validities for this issue are correct.

Even with a low crime rate, there can still be some crime. The cult is not necessarily in a position of wider power in society, but in a position to cause harm to ex-members by pressuring witnesses (which cults have been known to do). Finally, a complaint person can still join a cult.

Hey, so I just got issue #484, Patriot or Patri-not. It opens with this line:
A recent poll of the population has revealed that patriotism is at an all-time low.

Here's the thing: my patriotism is at an all-time high (jumped from bottom 10% to top 40%). Does this opening still work with the new patriotism stat?

edit: Or, at the very least, require a low patriotism stat? :P

Actually, we had already modified this issue so that nations will only receive it if they have low patriotism. Your nation's level of patriotism is still low enough to qualify for it.

You may be in the top 40%, but apparently there are tons of nations with relatively low patriotism. (Since it's a new stat, I'm sure that it will take time to build up higher levels of patriotism.)

1463.1 doesn't make a lot of sense to a nation that has no computers or cars: all the arguments for extracting more sand kind of disappear that way.

Issue #1299 (A Silent Salute)

The captured enemy captain mentioned in Option 1 was referred to as both "she" and "him".

Should I have gotten issue 1326, Hostile Hospitality, on this nation that doesn't have a national religion set? I can assume I may have gotten it on the basis of this nation's high religiousness stat, but the wording of option 3 being from my nation's 'Minister for Holy Wars' and 'the We must show these West Fedorians that they can’t mess with a major religion' line seems to imply that the issue is meant to be for nations that do have national religions set and not just a high religiousness level?

Yes... the issue does seem to hinge upon a named religion. Validity amended.

I believe #758 option 2 uses two single-quotes ('') instead of a double-quote (") here:

“This is their city as much as it is ours,’’ sings your childhood nanny Miriam Poppout, while staring at a snow globe with unsettling intensity. “You can’t let these beautiful creatures die! We should embrace bird feeding. @@CAPITAL@@ will become known as ‘The City of a Million Pigeons’ and tourists will flock from across the world to see the birds and feed them at only two @@CURRENCYPLURAL@@ a bag.”

It's reported in the spoiler thread as such, and it seems unlikely to me that whoever reported it way back when changed that over as part of the reporting. Sorry for the time-waste if it turns out the official copy is fine.

Issue #30 always felt weird when I received it (on this nation and others). This is how it showed up.

Cheap, foreign-made cars are becoming increasingly popular, causing concern in Egyptian Gold Car’s automobile manufacturing industry.

1. “Unless this government does something, Egyptian Gold Car won’t have an auto industry for much longer,” says auto industry union boss Björk Bradbury, in a rare public appearance alongside management. “These foreign companies employ people for a few cars a day. The only way to level the playing field is to raise tariffs. The government would make more money, too, so it’s win-win.”

2. “For once, I agree with my grubby colleague here,” says General Chassis CEO Gruffydd Harman. “Although I have to say, tariffs aren’t the only answer. A more effective solution would be to abolish minimum wage laws. Now that would level the playing field. And we’d be able to employ more—argh, let go of my throat!”

3. “I think we need to face facts,” says noted economist and chat-show regular Lucy O'Hara. “We live in a global economy now, and automobile manufacturing just isn’t Egyptian Gold Car’s strong suit. There’s no point taking money from taxpayers in order to line the pockets of a few greedy workers and corrupt managers in a doomed industry. Let the market take its—argh, let go of my throat!”

Options 2's validity is must have minimum wage. Because option 3 doesn't have any validity, the "let go of my throat" joke appears twice.

I’ve got a #457 “Colossus with feet of clay”
Option 1 has the following wording: “Well-known Information Technology tycoon, Edward Rump”
Bolding is mine, but how exactly do tycoons exist in a socialist economy?

I’ve also got a #1215 “A new Age” with the first option saying “I can’t get a new job as employers think I only have a couple of years left in me”.
Now the problem here is that average lifespan in Laka is 94 years- and I don’t think that merely crossing the half of your expected lifespan means that you’ve “got just a couple of years to live”.

Comfortably.

Ask Daniel Ortega or Jack Ma.

Of course, in an ideal socialist economy, wealth divides don't exist... Ideal socialist economies like, uh... hmm.

"Left in me" means years of usable employment, not years or life, in this context. Also, its the subjective opinion of a speaker on the subjective opinion of prospective employers. It could well be hyperbole.

Naa, that's how Max wrote it, with the line repeating twice, so it was always intentional. The option validity in for #2 was added later, but it was always author's intent to deliberately repeat that line.

If anything, I've damaged the joke by making it so that the line DOESN'T repeat for some nations, but c'est la vie.

Got a #766 “Carbon Emissions Are Why We Can’t Have Nice Things”.
Issue 4 might need a validity check- “All the worthwhile companies will flee to more business-friendly jurisdictions”- how exactly are the companies supposed to flee somewhere when my country is socialist? Why would they even care about it being business friendly?

This is Tinhampton.

Pursuant to Joy's post from a few months ago, the speaker in Option 1.3 is a "gay rights activist" who complains about people being discriminated against "because of their sexual preference."
