Damn I thought I caught all of those with a search for the faulty macro, but forgot to search for the faulty macro with capitalisation.

Fixed.

Why would it be capitalized? Effect lines aren't supposed to be automatically capitalized. Most demonyms are capitalized to begin with, of course, but if a player entered one that isn't then he probably had a reason for that.

I recently had Issue 277; Say Cheese!
After a tabloid newspaper printed a photograph of you picking your nose in a restaurant, the government is considering introducing guidelines for journalists wishing to take pictures of you.

I selected option 2 which stopped paparazzi taking pictures of the leader without permission and my political freedoms took a 5.9% downwards hit. Which was from around 79 points down to 72. I think this is completely unjustified as this is such a minor issue, and I don't understand how political freedoms can be changed so much by increasing the leader's right to privacy. This is not stopping any articles being published about the leader's actions, it just prevents photos from being taken unless permission is given, which is most likely what all other citizens have the right to (it's kind of hard to tell with NationStates but I think that would make sense in my region).

TL:DR, political freedoms shouldn't be impacted so heavily, please reduce it as it is unfair and illogical.

As the first post of this thread states, this thread is only for reporting visual objective errors like typos. This is the place for issue effects that you don't understand.

Yeah, it's a bit clumsy, but basically if an effect line starts with a macro it has to be a capitalised macro, otherwise when the game engine assembles front page paragraphs they can start with non-capitalised sentences.

The best approach, and the one I always recommend when I'm involved in an edit, is simply never to start effect lines with macros. I'll leave that to the named editor to consider.

Hmm. Sounds like some game code in the back end is capitalizing things in the wrong order ;)

Issue #065:
  • Option 1: "“Placing the military in charge of government affairs will be a disaster” claims Alexei Dunn, as a random thug steals the shirt off his back."
  • Option 3: "“Look, we do need more security, but we can’t sacrifice all of our freedoms. Just increase the police force and allow local militias to tool up and assist them.” says Kimberly Sestero, a long-retired cop who’s been itching to start patrolling again."
Instead of nothing and a full stop, shouldn't there be a comma in both instances at the end of the quotation marks? (Heck, one could make the argument for an exclaimation mark at the end of the first example.)

218.2 At one point says "It'll just give them gay!" And yes, that's the full sentence. Surely that's not right?

“I don’t care what these so-called scientific studies say,” says Mike Stromburg, representing a number of conservative religious organisations. “How can a boy hope to develop properly into a man if he’s being brought up by poofs? A father figure is not supposed to behave as if it is ‘okay’ to be, um, romantically invested in another man - and the same goes for lesbians! Why? Because it is not okay. It’ll just give them gay! Think about it: say you have two gay doves - they can’t have children because nature did not provide them with the tools and if God wanted gays to have kids then they would have those tools. Don’t legalise this blasphemy! Think of the children!”

Seeing as that line is establishing just how little the speaker knows about homosexuality, I think it should be fine.

#781 has another case of @@DEMONYMADJECTIVEPLURAL@@ in option 2. Just spotted.

On a lesser note, hyphenate "now-hospitalized" in option 1, and add a serial comma after "cancer" in option 3/4.

I think this is an effect line on #791:
paranoia is the new normal
I think this would read better as "paranoid is the new normal", since "normal" is an adjective, so anything that comes to replace/equate it probably should be too. That's how most variations of that setence work, anyway.

Normal can be a noun too, and in the phrase "the new normal" it is definitely a noun.

"Norm" is a noun for something that is normal. I've never heard "normal" used that way.

But I just did a search and found that both adjectives and nouns get used with the phrase fairly often, so meh. I still think it would sound better as "paranoid" and wanted to get it out of the way before I have the entire chain mapped, but it's Nation of Quebec's call. (Hey, at least I haven't found any worse mistakes yet...)

I guess they actually have different meanings. "Paranoia is the new normal" just means that paranoia is very common, but many people might still only be experiencing it second-hand, while "paranoid is the new normal" means that citizens of this nation are actually considered weird if they're not paranoid.

Anyway, what about #781?

Option 196.2 still uses "their" instead of @@HIS@@.

The new effect line (probably #800) that starts with " military doctrine" has a spurious space.

In other news, while I appreciate being applicable for more nations, "state media sings the praises of Greatest Hero Beloved Dear Leader @@LEADER@@" (#794 or #795) looks rather awkward when you left the field at the default. You could probably just drop the "Leader" and do "Dear @@LEADER@@".

The same appears to have happened in the main text of options 1, 2, and 4 (but not 3).

Issue #798 contains the word "synthesises" in the description. Shouldn't it be "synthesis?"

Synthesises is a word. You'll need to give context

"Synthesises" is an alternate spelling of the 3rd person present form of the verb "to synthesize". It looks like it should be the plural of the noun "synthesis", but it isn't.
