And then there's non-native English speakers, to whom none of that may be obvious. I was reading "Public Relations" and it made no sense to me. I did not notice there were two words used before which consecutively started with a P and R, which I think one typically won't notice if the abbreviation is entirely unknown.

Issue 41, Option 3

"Verily, I say unto thee, none of this would have happened wouldst thou not have stopped the problem before thou didst start it," argues Brother Calvin True of the Christian Democrats Amish community from out the window of his horse-drawn carriage. "We must doest as the Lord commandeth and abolishest the evils of computers and the Internet entirely. Only whenst we harken unto the Lord's commandments mayeth we truly be spiritually blessed."

I think you should substitute in the new adjective macro here.

Yesterday I had issue #163 'Referenda: are the right for *nation name*'.

For a change, I had picked option 1; and received a tagline of "Referenda are held for every conceivable government action", and noticed that this choice knocked two points off my Civil Rights rating (from 80 to 78).

I have to say that I honestly am not seeing how a nation holding holding referendums (even a lot of them) would infringe on a persons civil rights.

"A civil right is an enforceable right or privilege, which if interfered with by another gives rise to an action for injury. Examples of civil rights are freedom of speech, press, and assembly; the right to vote; freedom from involuntary servitude; and the right to equality in public places." as taken from:

http://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/civil_rights

If voting in a referendum was compulsory, I could perhaps see this lowering civil rights, but it is as with electoral voting, participating in any referendum is completely optional.

Also, should this not also increase a nations political freedoms? As it is giving the people a direct voice in all of their governments decisions.

But the civil rights hit as a result of choosing option #1 I think is certainly an incorrect result, and should be changed (probably to a small political freedoms bonus?).

That option doesn't affect civil rights. You're obviously reading the trend line wrong, and it'll be another issue that caused that change.

Well, I have only completed two issues in the last three/four days (not counting the one an hour ago) so the list of suspects is rather short as to what caused the change (my second issue choice also lowered it by 2 points, but that one I rather suspected would happen).

I am pretty sure it does effect civil rights, I did look online on another users choice results and their effects page (they had reported the same result, only they lost three points).

Two points in not a huge deal, I can eventually get it back; but you might want to double-check that it is not unexpectedly effecting civil rights somehow.

I've looked at it. I concur with Sedge, option 1 of Issue 163 does not effect civil rights.

Strange, but if you both checked, then it must be something else I would not suspect as having an effect.

I did notice I fell out of the regional top 10% for Largest Cheese Export Sector during the same timeline :D

Regardless, not a huge deal. I just thought if it was the cause, it should be reported for editing.

Thanks for checking.

You're a WA member. It's possible a recent General Assembly resolution resulted in that stat tweak.

That ... isn't necessarily indicative of your own stats. That's indicative of your stats relative to others in your region. Newcomers might have moved in, others might have had other issues that impacted their Cheese Exports more than yours did, etc.

I just got the *capital*, We Have a Problem issue (361, I think) which makes reference to the Topidian Aeronautics and Space Administration. That could use the new custom field. Though it also called it the TASA which for me would still work but I bet a lot of people use adjective forms that start with a different letter than their name.

The acronym follows whatever demonym you've chosen. For instance, mine is Amorian --> Amorian Aeronautics and Space Administration --> AASA

Well my demonym wasn't Topidian when I got it so that first reference seems off.

When it was first put into the game it didn't follow the demonym. That was fixed about 24 hours or so later.

That said I thought it was fixed before we released it to the public, so you may be mistaken.

EDIT: Unless you didn't have a demonym set and the game assigned -ian to Topid.

I'm sure that I'm not mistaken that it said Topidian. I wasn't confident in my ability to spell "aeronautics" so I copied and pasted Topidian Aeronautics and Space Administration from my issues page into the above post, so I know it was there :P. And you can see from my nation page that I logged in and changed my demonym and answered all 5 issues I had backlogged, and then I got that new issue about the space shuttle the next update, so my setting was also definitely Topes when I got it.

That's interesting.

I checked the code and it indicated that it is using demonym, but when I set Topid as the test nation and tested the issue on it, it did use Topidian. How very odd.

You know what? probably 3 out of 4 or more of these issues I get end up being dismissed because of the complete lack of answers to the problem that seem even halfway sane. We are supposed to be building and customizing our nations to fit our individual thoughts on issues, not some kind of "let's choose the least pants on head crazy "answer" method.

Example; the issue I got this evening (terrorist attack in capital city). No issue that just increases law enforcement efforts for anti-terrorism (an answer that doesnt result in radical civil rights or political freedoms changes) , just answers that range from "go to war", "kick minorities out of country", give in to terrorists", start warrantless wiretapping and indefinite holding of suspects", "legalize terrorism", and other STUPID answers like that.
