Advice...

Postby Irish Clarinets » Tue Sep 01, 2009 3:49 pm

What should I do?

The Issue
Workers across the nation have gone out on indefinite strike over what they claim are substandard wages in the Cheese Exports industry.

The Debate
"We are the backbone of this country, and we demand a fair wage rise!" says union leader Hope Mombota. "I don't think a 20% increase over two years is too much to ask. Unless the government forces employers to give us our due, we'll shut this whole industry down! Let's see how well Irish Clarinets's economy manages without any Cheese Exports, huh?"

"We pay our employees very generous wages," says employer representative Buy O'Bannon. "Especially when you consider that without us, they'd be OUT ON THE STREET. Hear that, you scumbags? OUT ON THE STREET! Anyway, my point is, if you cave in, you make our entire industry uncompetitive. You can't do that in the global marketplace. It'll hurt the whole country. The best solution, economically speaking, would be to relax industrial laws and allow us to fire troublemakers on the spot."

Probably should be towed.

Give me a minute to think, I'll see what I can provide as input.

You should decide for yourself. Do you like unions in your country or do you want a more business friendly environment?

Go for this one if you're up for government intervention in economics. It'll increase your income tax (likely), that's something to consider.

Improvement of competitive economics, lower or flat-line income tax, no government intervention.

It depends on the intent of your government.

Stop answering all issues and only use the Nationstates website to engage in futile "debate" with random strangers in NSG?

Not really, since I simply quoted it in another post, expecting a much larger input to be added, realizing it's a simple decision of do I want economy/government A or economy/government B.

Didn't even get into details or specifics, the main idea is what government type and/or economic system do you intend based on how you desire the course of your nation to go.

Also threw in something concerning income tax, that's always a pretty big concern.

But it wasn't as though I really thought, since the main point boiled down to something that didn't require much of it.

If you give the workers in one industry a 20% rise then the workers in all of your other industries will go on strike too, hoping for comparable settlements, and your industry will suffer badly. (That's what option #1 really does in NS, not just a RL opinion...)

If the nation is classified as 'Anarchy' there still is a [strictly limited] national government... and those aren't "biker gangs", they're traditional cross-Clan 'Warrior Societies', generally respected rather than feared.

And I'm still stuck after I read the post here.
Could anyone view my nation and tell me what to pick?

Yes, the post above you is true. Since your nation is so new, option 1 will tank your economy and probably take you all the way back into the Democratic Socialists category. Why not pick option 2, and impress people with your massive GDP?
