Civil rights scale a bit cracked?

Not sure this is the right board. But...

I recently got #264, "Not a Drop to Drink" (summary: there's a drought, you can 1. ration water, 2. import water from other nations, or 3. *crazy religious fanaticism*). Voted for water rationing. Oddly, it brought my civil rights down 7 points. Huh?

Conversely, I've recently allowed flag burning and polygamy (with same sex marriage, and apparently people marrying cats... :eyebrow:), neither of which brought my civil rights up at all (not even 1 point). I also got some other issue - forget at the moment, but it was a major civil rights thing and only brought my CR up 3 points.

So, how is it that 3 major CR issues would, combined, brought it up less than rationing water DURING A DROUGHT (!!!) brought it down? That makes no sense, and seems some of the issues need to be re-weighed. Technically, it's a stretch to call it a CR issue at all. Maybe bringing it down 1 or 2 points would be reasonable, but 7 points (more than 3 *actual* CR issues brought it up)? Something is obviously wrong with how issues are weighed.

aka: I don't like being an "Inoffensive Centrist Democracy" (boring).

The issues are meant to be unpredictable. The point is to never have complete control, it adds to the fun and makes your nations growth seem more realistic.

Yeah, I understand the unpredictability and, though frustrating, have come to find it endearing (along with the obvious pro-capitalist slant).

But there's a difference between unpredictability and just outright absurdity and inaccuracy. If the idea is to make the nation grow realistically, there's no way water rationing during a drought should bring CR down more than multiple actual CR issues bring it up ("realistically", would allowing polygamy/same-sex marriage not bring CR up *at all*? Maybe if everyone in your nation were straight and monogamous, but how likely is that?)

If something is already legal in your nation, then resolving an issue to keep it legal clearly won't affect you stats in the same way as if it was illegal beforehand. That's probably why the flag burning and polygamy issues didn't change your civil rights.

Pro-capitalist stance? I see an obvious social democrat (notice how I didn't say "socialist" ;) ) stance within the game. I.e. left-leaning nations tend to have better economies whilst right-leaning nations have broken societies with struggling economies. There's definitely no pro-capitalist stance! :p

I recently had that flag burning issue as well. Unfortunately, without realising, I clicked the "ban" option (meaning to click the option above) and my civil rights divided! I've now since been recategorised as a corporate bordello from anarchy... :(

I feel frustrated as well, anything I do to raise political and civil rights doesn't do anything, and if I choose an answer that would bring these rights down I drop several points. it's quite annoying, and frankly I don't understand why.

???

I see your nation is young (36 million pop.) and most early issues are written by Max Barry but in general most issues are written by normal people, and the people creating these issues aren't exactly discussing them over lots of people so the chances are that they all have widely varying opinions on what should occur due to the issues response. This is most likely the cause of this extreme variety of CR point distributing. The same happens to me. If you want to boost your CR, just keep going until it's bumped high enough up for your liking. (Also, don't get CR mixed up with political freedoms).

The higher your political freedoms/civil rights, the harder it is to raise them further.

All the stats on player-submitted issues are determined by Game Mods - they know what they're doing with them.

This is off topic (apologies), but where do you post to the forum (topic).

I've been having issues with civil rights as well, except that I've been trying as hard as I can to lower them to little avail.

Ha! I guess, to that extent, the game is like real life politics; people see what they want to see. I definitely think there's a pro-capitalist slant, to the extent that many issues are either economy OR environment, economy OR civil rights, etc... It's difficult for a pro-environment, etc... nation to have an economy, since the NS economy scale is so finite and based in relation to a capitalist system. But again, that may just be what I take from it.

Also, another...

Banning "unconventional weaponry", which the issue specifically states is for MILITARY (not civilian) use brought my civil rights down 3 points. But allowing same-sex couples to adopt children? Absolutely nothing.

Methinks NS mods don't understand what "civil rights" means.
