Effects of issues is off.

Postby Atliatus » Thu Jun 02, 2011 10:34 am

The effects some issues have on the trend (Economy, Civil Rights, Political Freedoms) makes no sense.

For example, I recently got an issue about military technology. I could develop advanced military tech, develop and sell, or reduce military spending. I chose develop and sell military tech. This somehow translated into "the nation has recently been attributed to the funding of terrorist organisations." Along with this, there was a 7 point drop in pol freedoms, and no change to economy.

How does selling expensive military technology to other countries not increase my economy at all? Also, many of the choices that I've experienced have had 0 effect on anything.

I enjoy this sim, but it's a little aggravating to either have no change, or a spike in something completely unexpected.

Thanks.

The problem with this one was not that it hit me with a pol freedom spike, but it didn't do anything to economy.

How do you know that it just didn't have enough effect to be visible?

This. ALso, sometimes economic changes don't happen instantly. Or maybe you just have terrible weapons.

I've looked at the numbers then and now (2 days later), no change.

It could've been what Flibbleites suggested.

Could you tell us what issue it was?

"#151: Build Bigger Bombs, Advise Scientists [Benevolent nations; ed:Sirocco]

The Issue
Top military designers in your secret laboratories have proposed projects to create nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons and are looking to you for government support and funding.

The Debate
1. "This is a necessary step towards the creation of a safer @@NAME@@," claims @@RANDOMNAME@@, the leading researcher. "Yes, it will mean a large areas of land will become unusable as a result of the testing, and it will cost billions of @@CURRENCY@@s, but that's the price we must pay for our national security. Just think of the power we will have if we can turn our enemies into plate glass!"

2. "Why stop with making weapons for ourselves?" asks @@RANDOMNAME@@, CEO of Wendy's Weapons stores. "We can sell them to all sorts of groups and organisations: other nations, the WA, terror- uh - freedom fighters, anyone! And we produce our own for our protection. Think of the money we can make! I'm sure none of our clients would ever even think of trying to use them to influence our government with threats or anything like that!"

3. "You want to bring NUKES into @@NAME@@?!" screams anti-nuclear protestor, @@RANDOMNAME@@. "This won't make us safer - it will just give the power to destroy everything to a few people! We must hunt down the people who suggested this evil plan and have them hanged! We must protect nature from the horrible influences of science. I say ban all new weapons research!""

I chose #2, as I wanted a boost in economy, even though I know it would cause a hit in pol freedoms. If I knew it wouldn't do jack to economy, I wouldn't have chosen that. I thought "Think of the money we can make!" implied + to eco. Maybe the system works on a 'gain 0-8 in economy' type deal?

As long as this thread is here...

I recently completed the "Prisoners Demand Elbow Room" issue and selected option 3.

"Now hold on just a second here," says Al Barry, CEO of Kashindahar's most widely-known pizza delivery chain, Papa Pallocci's Pizza Pagoda. "You've got a problem with prisoners, and I've got a problem finding employees. Why don't you just send some of your criminals to Papa Pallocci's? We'll put 'em to work at lower pay as punishment for their crimes! I win, you win... the economy wins!"

This resulted in a small increase in the murder rate an improved economy and a small increase in taxes. I don't understand the tax increase. Making prisoners leave prison where they are an expense to the state shouldn't raise taxes.

Yes it does.

If you privatize prisons, they turn more expensive. Like really anything thats getting privatized.

In reality, anyway. Considering how nationstates is coded, I am surprised too.

For the record I am at economy 97 with multiple nations and NOTHING I do seems to improve the economy any further.

I even made a special "to heck with everything else, I want ECONOMY" state (http://www.nationstates.net/nation=xzl) and its stuck at 97 too ... sigh.

Oh, and why I liked this thread title the moment I saw it:

My last issue was banning hatespeech ... which, to my surprise, hit both my political and civil really hard. :eyebrow:

Its really annoying, you work so hard and then you just misunderstand ONE of these cursed issues and bang you get kicked really hard.
Be fruitful and multiply.
