A Fairer Election On The Horizon?
Pro-democracy groups have been advocating for preferential voting to replace the first-past-the-post electoral system.
[option] “I support the mixed-proportional-run-off-enhanced- preferential-voting system!” @@RANDOMNAME@@ told reporters, “by supporting this new system and replacing the old system, we can rid @@NATION@@ of the democratic evils of the first-past-the-post system. No longer would I have to vote tactically and not support my favorite third-party because I’m worried about the major liberal party losing votes with the divided left-leaning voting base. Sure this system is somewhat complex and many citizens don’t understand how it works, but it’s certainly the fairer democratic way to run an election.”
[effect] A startling proportion of citizens do not understand how elections are run in @@NATION@@
[option] “But at the end of the day, what’s wrong with the old way?” @@RANDOMNAME@@, conservative talk radio show host asks his listeners, “sure the conservatives have won our elections for the last two decades but at the end of the day this seems to me like the lefties want to change the democratic system so they can get into power. At the end of the day, I want to be able to vote once and that’s it, a simple first-past-the-post, none of this fancy-smancy election stuff where the Psycho Tax-Hiking Mocha-Drinking Pinko-Socalist Party of @@NATION@@ can magically get elected. Moreover, voters who want to vote for some wacky non-traditional party should have to pay a leftie head tax – that should keep things nice and reasonable.”
[effect] Those who vote outside of the major right-wing party are taxed heavier
