Guns or Butter?

Guns or Butter is a military issue. The options are, basically:
Become a military dictatorship
Decrease military funding
Abolish military funding
Privatise the military.

None of the options actually appeal, and I've had to dismiss the issue.

But Option #4 intrigues me... what does privatising the military actually do in NS? I'd never consider doing it, it'd take the military out of my hands, even if it would become better funded.

Maybe that's the one that leads to "corporate takeovers are conducted with tanks and ICBMS"? I've seen that line included on various nations' pages...

My concern is how my stats will fare. I imagine economy might increase, but civil right and political freedoms? All 3 are low enough, don't want to risk them.

And a massive increase in government expenditure, which would have to be supported by higher taxes or an increased deficit, both of which are harmful to an economy.

But if it's privatised, wouldn't that mean that the quarter of my GDP being spent on them is distributed elsewhere and then tax breaks for the citizens?

I don't want to for role play, I was just wondering what exactly privatising them does.
