Help with "An Archaeological Altercation," please?

Postby San Martin Caballero » Sat Mar 26, 2011 2:26 pm

For this issue:
An Archaeological Altercation

What will my profile say if I choose this option?
3. "Behold, the hour has arrived! The Holy Temple of Firefury Amahira has been unearthed!" proclaims Yon-Zhauryg v'Klot, leader of the Cult of the Undead Cavalry steed. "This land is sacred, and must not be befouled by these corporations! No-one but the enlightened children of Firefury must be allowed to venture inside our rediscovered sanctuary, where we will perform the required rituals to please the Great Goddess and prevent Her from unleashing Her wrath upon the world."

Does anybody know? Because my country is fanatically Christian, and, though it would be great if my profile said something like "More and more people are turning to that old-time religion," it would be unacceptable for it to say "More and more folks are turning to esoteric cults."
Seewhatimean?
Does anybody know?
Can anybody help me?
Thanks.

EDIT:
If you're part of the Christian conference, thanks for clicking on the link, we can talk a little more OOCly here.
See, the thing is this. I DON'T WANT TO PASS UP ON AN OPPORTUNITY to have my profile say something to the effect of "More and more people are turning to that old-time religion." But yet, I can't allow fringe cults to take root in San Martin Caballero.
If worse comes to worst, I can just leave the thing unaddressed in my issues folder forever, but I don't want to choose #2 because I think I have to out of fear.
Anyway, what do we think? Seeking pastoral guidance.
Yours in Christ,
Caballero

As an atheist, I find this quite funny.

Anyway, whatever you do, I imagine you'll be mocked for your decision (hence, something about cults rather than "respectable" religions): if you're truly worried about that, then don't pick this option.
Author of Issues:
#273: Is our children learning?
#310: Too Little Talk?
#315: Creative Flowers Withering Under Legislation
#324 "Tourism Tanking" Tells Tabloids
#334: Blot Out Bauhaus
#340: Defending Patent Pending
#365: A Busload of Worry

None at present

If I offer criticism on your proposed issue, I will often write in red: don't think I'm being aggressive, it's just a convention I use!
If I ask a question on a proposed issue thread, then it's because I feel it's one you need to ask of your issue: I'm being Socratic and/or lazy.

You do realise that the text that appears is purely for flavour, right? It could say "mutated space owls have overrun the nation and assumed control" for all you care, but it doesn't actually change anything vital. In any case, if you're answering the max two issues per day, it'll be off your nation page again in a couple of days, never to be seen again.

I just... don't see what the big deal is, to be honest. I imagine picking Option 3 would increase government spending on Religion & Spirituality, so if your goal is to be fanatically religious as possible, go for that one and don't worry about what the flavour text might say.

Two reasons why it's a "big deal":
1) General principles of playing the game the right way. Because, I mean, if we're not going to do it right, then why do it at all?
2) I'm a member of an internation Christian coalition that would kick me out if they saw something pagan on my page, and they'd be right to do so, just like I've recommended others be kicked out for anti-Christian legislation in the past.

So, I ask again, please, has ANYBODY in the NationStates Universe ever picked the No. 3 option for this issue? And if so, please tell me, what does your profile page say afterwards?
Thank you very much.

I... see? I'd be somewhat surprised if it resulted in anything about Pagans, given that Paganism is about celebrating nature and the issue doesn't even make a passing reference to either nature or Paganism itself.

In any case, I just searched for the name of the issue using the forum's in-built search engine. The results aren't exactly clear-cut, but I've found this:

viewtopic.php?p=3081912&sid=629c186ada7c2321e58a82a604f18a7d#p3081912

Genomita's post and the following two posts are about as detailed as it's going to get, I'm afraid; there's no comprehensive guide about the effects of each issue, so it's pretty much luck of the draw as to whether it's been discussed before. It seems fairly neutral in terms of references to religion from what little information there is. Personally I'd see it as negative, but up to you whether you go for it or not, it's your nation. :)

And at the risk of being argumentative, it's extremely difficult, if not impossible, to avoid any perceived negative flavour text whatsoever. I know there's at least one issue where every single option results in some sort of natural disaster that supposedly could have been avoided. For another example, take a look at my own nation page; I certainly wouldn't explicitly choose to have convicted murderers free to wander the streets as they please, but that's what it says, and there's not much I can really do about it. Kicking people out of an international organisation based on an accidental piece of legislature in an online game seems a bit... harsh.
