Statement of Dedication to Free Speech

Postby Southern Bellz » Tue Mar 01, 2011 9:55 am

I, Southern Bellz, acting as the elected delegate of The South Pacific, promise to not suppress any RMB posts on The South Pacific RMB in order to preserve the tradition of freedom of speech. Every nation has the right to state their opinion, regardless of what that opinion is. On top of this, The South Pacific recognizes its place as a game region and will not suppress recruitment. In return, we humbly ask recruiters to respect our RMB, just as we respect their right to recruit.

I encourage all other regions and regional leaders to join The South Pacific, to take a stand against using suppression to preserve free speech in NationStates. Blocking the exchange of information is never the answer, and nations should have the right to speak their mind, even if they are critical of their government.

Okay. In the mean time, we're happy with being able to suppress those ugly ads.

The Rejected Realms applauds The South Pacific's commitment and dedication to free speech, and would like to take the opportunity they have offered us to invite you to join The Rejected Realms today.

P.S. Don't forget to sign up on our forum, where any nation can have a say in how the new suppression feature should or should not be used.

All adspam should be suppressed and those posting it, banned!

Agreed. Make the effort to send a telegram and stop filling up the Feeders with useless spam.

Although I certainly do respect the decision made by SouthernBellz, for my own Delegacy in The North Pacific, I have to agree with a number of the posters here regarding the use of the Suppression feature to combat recruitment spam in the feeders. I have made it my policy in TNP that I would only use Suppression to hide recruitment posts that fail to include participation in our RMB Contests, though, from time to time there might be a need to use it for other purposes. Frankly, I would rather see my region have a decent enough RMB where North Pacificans and friends of The North Pacific can have conversations, games, and activities instead of being silenced by the hordes of abusive recruiters. Now, not saying that all recruiters are abusive, and I give my thanks to those who not only participate in our RMB Contests, but who do much more by actually contributing to the social fabric of TNP.

Also, as others have pointed out, one is still able to see the posts that are suppressed if they click on the little + button on the right hand corner of the suppressed post. While it may serve to annoy people if we suppressed posts (as I found out yesterday from a recruiter), it is not like we have actually deleted those posts. Only the player who made the post in question or the Mod team (unless Sedge is lying to me...) can delete the posts.
