Social Liberal Union: Election for Regional WA Delegate

PostPosted: Mon Feb 14, 2011 1:58 pm
by Social Liberal Union
The Social Liberal Union is a region of liberal socialist and social liberal nations.

We are now holding an election for the next regional WA Delegate.

The election will take place by public ballot and member nations will have two days to vote by stating their first and second preference candidate. If no candidate receives a majority of first preference votes cast, the second preference votes for the top two candidates will be counted. The candidate with the most total votes will then win the election.

In the event that there are less than three candidates, then there will be no need to state a second preference.

The WA Delegate will be elected for a term of one month, and will be able to stand for one re-election.

All candidates wishing to stand for election should post their proposals here. The deadline for submissions is 16th Feb 2011 20:00 GMT.
Once the deadline has passed, candidates will have the opportunity to engage with nations here and answer any questions about their proposals they may have before the ballot takes place.

The Free Land of Eggy216 would like to submit their nation's name for consideration by the Social Liberal Union.

To address some of the issues that seem to come up frequently in the WA-
-Our nation does not agree with a mandatory military draft.
-Our nation does not agree with limiting the rights of a woman to an abortion.

A few general points - If elected. . .
-We will try to gain input from as many nations as possible before voting on proposals.
-If, for any reason, we feel we will be unable to properly fufill our duties, we will immediately vacate the position to the second choice candidate as chosen by the voters.
-We will uphold the views of the Social Liberal Union in maintaining Civil Rights and Democracy for all.

The Social Democracy of The Floridian Coast would like to be elected to WA delegate status.

My platform

I'd like to create an "Issues advice" discussion where members of the Social Liberal Union can help each other and share insight on ways to decide on issues and get the most desirable effect.

Examples

- How to lower crime rate in your nation without decreasing civil rights.

- How to provide maximum social welfare without a 100% tax rate.

- How to improve your economy without harming your environment.

- How to alter your population status to things like "intelligent" and "compassionate."

I also think there should be a formal alliance of our region in the RP forums. The alliance would be based on protecting socially liberal nations from harm. It would also serve to advertise our region and invite other socially liberal nations to join it, so our regional influence can grow.

In the WA, I will vote promptly and frequently. I will always choose resolutions that expand civil rights and always reject resolutions that decrease civil rights. I will vote pro-environment.

On less obvious issues I will ask for regional consensus, such as things like "The Missing Minors Act." I will also ask for regional consensus for all cases of commend and condemn. The only cases in which I would not wait for most members to respond are on resolutions which are clearly for or against what our region stands for. This is to insure the votes are made in time, especially on vital issues.

I will make sure our region is safe from raiders. I only wish to serve one term, and do not want to remain in power as WA delegate any longer than that. In future elections I will endorse and ask member states to endorse the properly elected delegate.

The deadline for candidates to make their proposals has now passed and I confirm the candidate nations to stand for election to WA Delegate are as follows:

1. The Free Land of Eggy216
2. The Social Democracy of The Floridian Coast

Nations and regions may ask questions and engage with the candidates here until voting opens at 20:00 GMT on 18 Feb. At which point the candidate nations will be re-confirmed and all nations eligible to vote will be listed. The electorate will then have until 20:00 GMT on 21st Feb to cast their vote. As there are only two candidates, nations will vote by stating their preferred candidate and the candidate which achieves a majority will win the election.

The new Delegate will officially take office on 22nd Feb and candidacy submissions for the 21st March election will open on 16th March.
