So how do YOU spend your time in NationStates?

Postby Ezlo » Tue Jan 25, 2011 12:30 pm

I stumbled across this site a few days ago and it seems pretty interesting. I get to build my own country and control its government policies? Cool! I can get behind a game like that.

Unfortunately, after customizing my nation and confronting my first issue, I find myself at a loss on what to do next. Without features like war and trade routes, the biggest threat my nation faces is being ejected from the region. Without any real threat from the outside world, it appears that there is not much to gain and therefore not much to lose. It feels very isolated and separate from the rest of the world.

So my question for you is: How do YOU spend your time here? What areas of the site do you concern yourself with?

There's gameplay, the forum you are in now, we work on relations between regions, invading/defending other regions with WA nations through endorsements etc.

Then there is roleplay, see the Nationstates, international incidents, sports, factbook forums.

Some people like discussing and voting on WA resolutions/proposals. See the WA forums

And then there's people who like dealing with issues...issues forum, yeah.

Some people don't even really play the game, but just like chatting away in General or forum 7

I probably missed something here..

Okay, so the site is less of a political simulation and more of a platform for political roleplay?

No, there's far more than roleplay to do. If you get involved in a gameplay-devoted region, there's regional politics to enjoy.

NS warfare through WA endorsements and then all the politics that come with that. Probably the most fun part for me personally.

F&NI, F7, Nationstates, II, AF. I generally avoid NSG, because I'm a sane person.

You can RP. I, for instance, have many games I use in conjunction to make my nation seem less pointless to me. Not trying to advertise or anything, but I can recommend one or two free web-based games that can help relieve the monotony of having endless peace, limitless money, and things like that. (NS has places that are good for that too, btw.)
It took me two years to find this (meaning the thing that lets you edit your sig). How sad is that? :'(
You know, I always planned to add a bunch of clever quotes to this once I figured out how, but I don't remember any. I found one now, though:

I used to be part of a gameplay-devoted region, but the region overdid it to an extent that I would die if looked into my nation page if I kept playing with them, so I just RP.

Personally, I spend most of my time doing Sports role playing on the NS Sports Forum. There are so many traditions and opportunities, there's always something to do, and it never ends.I also like discussing music and movies in A&F and the occasional International Incidents RP. Pretty much, RPing is the main thing to do on the forums but you can get involved with the world assembly and its proposals and regional politics, etc. There's really unlimited things to do on the site. Been here 8 months exactly, been addicted the whole time :D

Thanks, I change it every now and then. I've made an official flag but I don't think anyone will notice me with a normal one.
