General Schedule of Events:

• The Nomination period is from now through sometime on the 7th/8th
• The Voting period is from the close of Nominations through midnight on the 14th or so
• Awards will posted fairly shortly after that

Nomination Rules & Guidelines

• If possible, please use fully formatted url links in any submissions (not needed for nation/region tags) for ease of readability & so forth, such that a given quote (for example) is entirely a link to it’s source.
• Nominations by those generally blacklisted for OOC reasons will be voided
• Nominations of individuals and regions generally blacklisted for OOC reasons will not be counted
• Nominations of those who have since become DoS will only be accepted provided they had activity in the last year & aren’t barred by other rules
• You may make as many or as few nominations for each award as you wish
• Nominations may only be made in this thread
• Self-nominations in the Individuals Awards category (and Most Popular) will not be accepted. If you can not get others to nominate you, you don't deserve it
• Explanation of nominee is greatly appreciated but not required
• Nominations may be modified slightly by myself for consistency and/or perceived neutrality
• Nominations require a second to move to the voting stage

The Categories and Awards:

Awards Given to Probably Deserving Individuals

• Raider of the Year - The most villainous, the exemplar of evil, the paragon of raiding in the last year.
• Defender of the Year - The doer of good, the leader of righteousness, the stalwart defender of the last year.
• Independent of the Year - For that wishy-washy person who nonetheless was very competent this last year.
• Up and Coming Raider - That new person to the art of raiding who shows the most promise. Nominations may be made of those new to raiding in a longer time-frame than the last year, within reason.
• Up and Coming Defender - The best recruit of the side of righteousness who shows the greatest promise. Nomination requirements are the same as above.
• Politician of the Year - Ah, the infamous profession. This award is for those who have power & influence by position, and have used it the best.
• Most Influential Gameplayer - The equal and opposite of the above, this award is for those who don't have powerful positions, but somehow end up influencing and/or in the room where it happens anyways.
• The Armchair Award - The oft-maligned award, this goes to the individual whose activity level is most inverse to how much they talk about what is going on.
• Gameplayer of the Year - The crown jewel in any awards cabinet, this award is for that person who is the best Gameplayer around (or at least in the last year).

Individual Awards Disguised as Being for Groups of People

• Raider Military of the Year - Given to the military that has best demonstrated the crushing of natives for the past year.
• Defender Military of the Year - That Military that did the most to protect the mostly-innocent masses from raiders this year.
• Independent/Unaligned/Other Military of the Year - An award for the undecided militaries among us that play on both sides.
• UCR Region of the Year - The user-created region that did exceptionally well this year.
• GCR Region of the Year - Supposedly an award for the game-created region that did the best this year, we all know that's code for most popular.
• Best New Region - That new region everyone is talking about, and looks to be doing the best.

Awards Somehow Given to Non-Physical Stuff

• Invasion of the Year: Even the most epic of invasions deserves more accolades.
• Defense of the Year: The defense that most showed what defenders can do.
• Political Event of the Year: - Treaties, wars, and political intrigue oh my! This one is for the big things happening in Gameplay politics.
• Failure of the Year (IC only): - Missed triggers, opsec leaks, and more! This is the IC event (OOC stuff is out) that gets the dubious distinction of being dubbed the greatest failure of the year.
• Event of the Year: - The biggest thing in Gameplay to happen in the last year.

The Silly Awards and Ones that Don't Fit Elsewhere

• News Operation of the Year: - Regular journalism, yellow journalism, and tweets. This goes to the operation deemed the best at putting out the news we all sometimes care about.
• News Article of the Year: - That which is deemed to be the biggest or best article of the year, by the whims of the mob.
• Best Thread/Essay/Long-form Dispatch: - The thread or similarly long thing deemed to arbitrarily be the best.
• Quote/Short-form Dispatch of the Year: - That witty/funny/weird comment we all like.
• Most Popular Award: - The silliest and most arbitrary of awards, this award is for whoever we all evidently like the most.

Raider of the Year:
Valtarre and Venico both should be nominated for their work in the Brotherhood of Malice, having both served as mentors and regional officers for almost all major raids, they are both people you can rely on to come to and ask any raiding questions and always get helped and support from.
Volstrostia for their creation of brimstone, leading of the raid in Alcatraz, as well as exemplar work in the infiltration of Greater Sahara. They also built YAFFeather to aid in tagging. Whenever something major has happened in raiding, Alex has been there.
Chaotic Sparkles should be nominated for her amazing work in a lot of the large scale operations and her growth of Sparkalia into a major power in raiderdom. Not to mention her raids she led for Sparkalia as well as being one of the Assassins in the infiltration of Greater Sahara.

Independent of the Year:
New Astri for their work in growing the PRAF which has been part of major invasions of fascist regions.

Up and Coming Raider:
Volstrostia for their creation of brimstone, leading of the raid in Alcatraz, as well as exemplar work in the infiltration of Greater Sahara. They also built YAFFeather to aid in tagging. Whenever something major has happened in raiding, Alex has been there.

Gameplayer of the Year:
Valtarre should be Gameplayer of the Year because he has continued to mentor up and coming raiders, motivate all of raiderdom, advise and grow multiple large raider regions.

Raider Military of the Year:
The Brotherhood of Malice has taken Greater Sahara (and Free Sahara) in the first large infiltration of a frontier as well as recently taken Alcatraz in a dirty refound. The Brotherhood has grown to become one of if not the largest raiding organization in the game, the support of the Brotherhood has been fundamental in many operations throughout the year for Raiderdom.

Independent/Unaligned/Other Military of the Year:
The People's Revolutionary Air Force (PRAF) of The Communist Bloc for it's work in destroying fascist regions and other problematic regions as well as for the fact it is one of if not the largest military organization on the site this year.

Failed Liberation of Alcatraz and the sequential failure to prevent a refound even with a Liberation and Injunction passed.

Raider of the Year:Volstrostia, Alex has been almost from the get go immediately a prominent raider. From their adeptness on the field, their capabilities as a commander, organizing of updates and training neophytes, their extensive sleepers, being instrumental to the infiltration of Greater Sahara to finally being the instrument of destruction of a historic region in Alcatraz. A meteoric rise, a force of nature to be reckoned with, and ultimately their greatest achievements in this game are still ahead of them which should be terrifying to defenders and native alike.

Oh and also Mrs Venico because as I was explaining what I was typing here she asked if she got an award for anything, noted that her contributions were her being accommodating so that I could "be on all those calls"

Defender of the Year:Westinor, the most effective foe I've met on the battlefield who also treats their enemies with grace and respect. The gold standard of what defending should look like and if fendas have any hope of righting their ship come 2024 it should be off her model and leadership. I'll gladly raise my axes against you any day.

Independent of the Year:Mlakhavia is an absolute force of nature when it comes to applying their military to operations. The largest piling force in the game and it is extracted by Sleet's blood, sweat, and tears.

Up and Coming Raider:Volstrostia is by all rights the Raider of the Year in their first year on the site. If that doesn't qualify you for up and coming raider then we should abolish the award.

Up and Coming Defender: I will defer to defenders to examine their own ranks. I'll be honest I can think of a few new faces but I don't know if they're independent or if they also raid neutral communities.

Politician of the Year: Pallaith has successfully puppeteered TNP all year without too many people throwing a fuss.

Most Influential Gameplayer: Malicious Souls and Valtarre have consistently advised and steered raiders through many situations and operations this year. And because almost everything happens in gameplay because of raiders...them.

The Armchair Award: I genuinely don't think this applies to many people. Almost all of Gameplay is willing to put their money where their mouth is. Which is great and one of the aspects we should celebrate about our collective culture.

Gameplayer of the Year: Malicious Souls, the best there was, the best there is, and the best there ever will be.

Raider Military of the Year: The Brotherhood of Malice and Sparkalia both have dominated the field throughout the year, neither really suffering a blemish along. Malice has yet to lose an operation since its revival, continues to pull refounds of historic regions out of its ass, while Sparkalia has become a top three contributor to raiderdom in MONTHS. Which should be commended.

Defender Military of the Year: RRA, I do my best to send them as many recruits as possible and they don't complain.

Independent/Unaligned/Other Military of the Year: PRAF, largest piler force in the game

UCR Region of the Year: The Brotherhood of Malice

GCR Region of the Year: Osiris

Best New Region: Lair of the Dragon

Invasion of the Year: Alcatraz stealing a piece of history tickles me in a way that no other operation this year can. There are plenty of good candidates this year that can be debated but Alcatraz has the most implications, and also had a fun prison themed cosplay.

Defense of the Year: There were no successful defenses this year that I'm aware of. Liberations though I will give to Far East Oriental Federation. The first true clean defeat of a collaboration of Raiders in ages.

Political Event of the Year: Kasch not Transitioning for months

Failure of the Year (IC only): Alcatraz was a region that could have been saved at a dozen different points. An accepted ultimatum, a spotter at an update, a single person moving a nation in at the right moment, continued sieges, etc. And yet defenders willingly chose to let a piece of their foundational history become a trophy of Malice.

Event of the Year: Frontier/Stronghold dropping. Has obviously shaped the game quite a bit in its short time here.

For those nominating Sparkalia as best new region, really appreciate it but we already won last year and after conferring with the boss unfortunately you can't win rookie of the year two years in a row. Who knew???? /s

Raider of the Year: Seconding Volstrostia as Raider of the Year - we could have maybe said up and coming raider if this was held 6-7 months ago, but they have long proven their promise, not merely shown it. Volstrostia has made significant contributions to raiding this year including their quintessential role in Greater Sahara and Alcatraz, as well as introducing enhanced RaidTechTM. Objectively, there is no one else that fits the bill here, as such this will only be a seconding.
Defender of the Year: westinor - She has risen and been the one to have pen hit paper in the Security Council but sure as have been noted by defenders no Libjunct needs to be particularly flowery at all which is why in addition I consider her rise as a leading face and organizing many sieges especially the 17 updates in Magna Aurea. Thereby, seconding.
Independent of the Year: New Astri & Mlakhavia - seconding what has been stated already. Their blood sweat and tears extracting the great force PRAF is will be something that will haunt those who find themselves in PRAF's crosshairs.
Up and Coming Raider: United Villages of Eisbutch/Ares - he has potential and I am rather curious to see what more he will be able to accomplsih
Up and Coming Defender: AurA/Obrimenja (aura who calls you by obrimenja?) - they continue to climb the ranks in the Wardens and have been the name that stands out most to me.
Politician of the Year: Pallaith, I'll second this one - perfect sense
Most Influential Gameplayer: Valtarre, seconded.
The Armchair Award: There really havent been any armchairs that stand out to me this year, I had some last year. This year? Unfortunately not.

Raider Military of the Year: The Brotherhood of Malice has been involved in 2 of the 3 invasion of the year contenders not only does it have the most numbers in personnel but the most in quality operations this year.
Defender Military of the Year: The South Pacific Special Forces, seconded. Really saw a lot of TSP flags out there this year, hopefully I will be able to put more names to faces up and down their roster in time.

Invasion of the Year:It is a tough one this year because there have been some really killer invasions that would win on their own in other years, outright. To have this many bangers... well... who woulda thunk?

• Alcatraz - a historic region to the cause of defenderdom that had no business of being lost with ample notice that it would be refounded and still fell into the hands of Malice anyways.
• Greater Sahara - the sneakiest operation, period. Volstrostia & Hesskin Empire really drove this operation from beginning to end the most out of anyone. There were definitely other significant contributors (of which I do not consider myself among them) but the first successful transition of a frontier into a raider's hands certainly proved most eventful.

Defense of the Year: Far East Oriental Federation - credit where credit is due. To me, this one outweighs South Pacific, because it shows liberations are very much not impossible regardless of what tech may be at our disposal, further, it was the first frontier not to occupied in this new era to have suffered. Defenders did well with this one, and I am sure someone from Hawk Command is going to have some words for me for saying so.
Political Event of the Year: TRR Espionage Incident - seconded, it truly speaks for itself
Failure of the Year (IC only):

• Delegacy transition of Kaschovia - months and months and finally a Christmas miracle....that was near the end of the term.
• Letter of Extortion from Defenders to TNP - pen that never should have hit paper and an apology that could have been easily avoided

Event of the Year: Frontiers & Strongholds - From the disappearance of founderless regions transitioning to strongholds like Belgium and Middle Earth, to the havoc wreaked on the ground in new frontiers like Magna Aurea and Yessssss; Frontiers & Strongholds being the new norm has reshaped the potential of many and led to the downfalls of others.
