Has anybody tried calculating the total population of every single nation in all of NationStates?

Right now there are 221,517 nations, with an average population of 4,497,580,000. This gives us a total population of 996,290,428,860,000 (just short of 1 quadrillion). Obviously as nations are created/cte/gain population etc. this will be constantly changing.

There's multiple old fart nations like mine near or over 40 billion population too, so basing a guesstimate on average population may not be especially accurate.

I took the average from here: https://www.nationstates.net/nation=pen ... =3?world=1 (just click on my nation name at the bottom to remove my line and just view the World line) and then read the most recent number for today's value

On these graphs, the World line is the mean of all nations, so simply multiplying it by the number of nations will give me the correct answer.

Using the power of estimation I'm gonna say somewhere around 3 trillion give or take the constantly changing populations. I just used the fact that 1,000 billions goes into a trillion so that's everyone who is already in the billions and everyone who isn't probably adds up to a few billions.

There's multiple old fart nations like mine near or over 40 billion population too, so basing a guesstimate on average population may not be especially accurate.

The average is the arithmetic mean, not the median.
The median is shy of 2 billion, which isn't half the average reported in the trend.

Average population dips would be from influxes of new players. That big drop from April-May last year is thanks to a popular YTer (Drew Durnil) who made a video on NS.

An average population is taken by dividing the total world population by the number of nations, so multiplying the average population by the number of nations should produce the total world population - large nations wouldn't skew that metric.

My biggest 15 nations amount to about 565 billion*, so, 1 trillion would be waaay too small for the whole world.

Really interesting to see that Mother Knows Best State is the classification with the highest average population, by a margin. I guess it's because more experienced players are more likely to know how to get it. It's pretty hard to stumble across it for new nations.

Since it is limited to nations with a female-leaning pretitle that seems to make sense. You're likely a fairly deep player if you found out that getting father knows best state and then adding certain pretitles gets you a hidden classification.

Probably wouldn’t affect much - lowballing the nation number (200k) and daily growth (5m) gives a daily population growth of one trillion. A few thousand of the oldest puppets would undo a month of that at most.

If we take the average World stat from NS stats page, along with the total number of nations now, we get:

4 522 230 000 × 220 281 = 996.161 e12 = 996.161 trillion. Assuming none of the nations CTE during this period, it will take at least (1 e15 − 996.161 e12) / ((6 e6) × 220 281 / day) = 2 d + 21 h + 42 min + 16.796 764 13 s.
