There isn't anything I could say about the year 2020 that you have not heard already. Its been tough... extremely tough. The effects of the coronavirus and civil unrest have crept into every facet of our lives and NationStates is no exception. The Defender Awards are an important tradition in our community that dates back thirteen years when their longtime host, The Founderless Regions Alliance, first introduced them. The awards have suffered from instability over the past few years and this difficult year is no exception. This year's awards will be held entirely on the Nationstates site in order to make them as accessible as possible for any who wish to get involved. It is my wish that after this year, we can establish a regional rotation for hosting responsibilities. This will bring stability to the awards as well as a restoration of pomp and circumstance that these awards, and their recipients, deserve. I wish I could be the one to do it, this year, but I currently lack the capacity to pull it off. Please forgive the lack of flash and please participate in good faith.
Welcome to the 2020 Defender Awards!
Another year has passed us by and with it came new tales of herculean efforts and legendary deeds. The Defender Awards serve as a yearly celebration of the defender cause and its heroes. All members of the NationStates community are welcome to take part in one of its greatest traditions in recognizing the nations most committed to keeping free regions free.
The Defender Awards will take place in three stages:
1) With the creation of this thread, the nominations phase will open. Players may nominate individuals and/or regions for each award as they see fit in this thread. Once a nomination has been seconded, it will be placed on the official voting ballot. Nominations will close at the end of November 8th.
2) Once the official ballot has been shared, nations will have another week to submit their votes.
3) After all of the votes have been tallied, the Winners will be revealed.
More instructions for the voting stage will be shared when the ballot is released.
Please make your nominations in good faith. One's made in bad faith will be thrown out at my discretion and the nominator will not be welcomed to submit votes later.

The nation who is the most effective at looking out for any invasions that are taking place.
The Anarchotopia Award
The organization which has proved the most successful in preventing invasions.
The Blackbird Award
The best invader group.
Sir Lans Award
Updater of the Year
The Operation of the Year
The Best Newcomer Award
The Worst Invasion/Operation Award
The Best Defender Quote
The Lifetime Achievement Award for Dedication to Defending
The Meltdown of the Year
The Numero Capitan
The nation who has best served the Intelligence cause.
The Belgium Award
The nation/region that furthered our cause in the World Assembly Security Council the most.
The Worst Invader Group
The Karputsk Award
The nation who has excelled in leading liberations.
The Eluvatar Award
For best tech contributions.
