Been a while since we had a good ol' instance of election fraud. Feels like old times.

The fraud happened a little over two years ago iirc. I actually happened to be Deputy EC in Thaecia then.

Is the "procedural error" referenced in this announcement the government's "repeated violations of the defendant's constitutional right to a speedy trial" that caused the court to dismiss the case?

/All this is my own Opinion and not that of the Thaecian Government

Yes, the procedural error referenced was the violation of the right to a speedy trial - but as the majority opinion stated, it was not just the fault of the government (the prosecution in this case). The violation was the fault of all 3 parties involved. The Court made no attempt to increase the pace of the trial to what could be considered reasonable, and the majority opinion unnecessarily skews the blame towards the government when there was fault quite heavily on all sides

Inoffensive Centrist Democracy

Postby Madjack » Wed Sep 28, 2022 6:09 am

Whatever the reasons for the failure of the trial, the proscription of Xernon is a good thing and the right move. To undermine a democracy - and a still developing one as Thaecia was at the time - in the way that Tomb did was an egregious offence, one made even worse by the fact that Xernon/Tomb was a founder of the region.

I would also praise the bravery of Thaecia's current government in proscribing Xernon. To remove one of the region's grandees is no easy task, especially in a UCR.
Definitely not The Notorious Mad Jack, despite being almost as smart and handsome as I am.

NDay-7: A Thaecian Blast
Written By: Islonia/Altys

On Saturday the 24th of September, 2022, nuclear war was initiated by an unknown malicious actor forcing regions to brace for Armageddon. Fortunately the Thaecian Leadership knew of this thanks to the works of the ThaeCIA in conjunction with other intelligence services from our allies. Thus we were prepared, forming the defensive faction Anime Nations Against Liberals with The East Pacific,Lone Wolves United,The Black Hawks and the Alstroemerian Commonwealths.

This faction founded was the spiritual successor to Thaecia's, then private, faction All Nations Against Liberals first created in 2019. Joined during the planning phase by many other regions, the faction saw many with clashing ideologies and/or currently complicated relations put such baggage on the front door and instead prepare for nuclear defense. Led by the High Commanders, seven experienced members from our different regions ( Catiania(Cat), Cerdenia, A Bloodred Moon(JoWhatup), Brox Reple(SkyGreen), Ellenburg, Lucklife, and Islonia(Altys)), we were ready for the battle to come.

The Faction's main strategy and goal was simple: a relative focus on shield production aimed at keeping ourselves alive for the longest possible time to ensure everyone would get their fun. Additionally one of our secondary plan was to assist the losing side of the Potato Alliance (PA) & CARD v. Horsemen of the Apocalypse (HoTA) battle to ensure a constant status quo, thus a way to keep ourselves alive the longest possible time. We had also in mind seeing ourselves target of either/both sides as the punishment for such an opportunistic strategy: something we were fine with. We had planned before and during the event to go down in a huge blow as described in our strategy outline for the beginning of the event. This outline also shows our committment to removing the fash from the surface of the event in coordination with The Communist Bloc (TCB) with whom we had a Non-Aggression Pact.

Naturally, everything does not go according to plan. Indeed, while our fash bash was underway, PA-CARD went on the offensive against HoTA and started dealing damage. ANAL Command was worried for a possible early Horsemen downfall as radiation ramped up, pondering the idea of assisting their defense. They were faster than us, with one of their commanders (Waste) coming into our Discord Server roughly 2h30 into the event and proposing an alliance. Which we accepted. Ensued constant coordination between HoTA and ANAL both offensively and defensively. In the end the faction survived the entire event and ended second place on the leaderboard. Our biggest prowess being the two huge barrages sent against us that we were able to defend against: one 130k nukes barrage (95-100k by ourselves, the rest TCB & HoTA) from PA-CARD and one 105-110k nukes barrages from HoTA ("friendly sparring" as we named it). In the latter case, we suffered more damage as we were still recovering from the former and most of our main shielders were offline.

We are naturally proud of our second place, but this feeling is first and foremost linked to the pleasure that everyone had in participating in the event under our faction's umbrella. Commanders and members alike, this sentiment is unanimous and brings joy to all those who helped organise and lead the faction. This is especially true for our Commanding Officers (High Commanders who led the troops in turns), namelly A Bloodred Moon (for 1h), Cerdenia (for 3h), Catiania (for 3h30), and Islonia (for 16h30).

Finally, Islonia compiled statistics from all members of Anime Nations Against Liberal's "Cat Fan Club", members who used the puppet managment technology made by Catiania for the faction. A focus has been made on interceptions given the faction's defensive stance, but all NDay numbers but radiation are listed. See them in the spoiler below:
Image

You can also see the original end of event statement posted by Islonia roughly half a hour after the arms control treaty:
Image

Thaecia hopes that this experience can be recreated in any future iteration of the event, and proudly invites any region that wishes to share a good time with us to manifest themselves. Making ANAL into a mainstream faction even for one event was Cerdenia's, the original leader of ANAL, dream come true and we hope it will not be the last time!

The Thaecian Midterm Elections
Written By: Solittus

The Thaecian Midterm Elections have now concluded. This was the first midterm to feature elections for both the World Assembly Delegate and the House of Commons.

The House of Commons was a closely-fought election, with 16 candidates running for 11 seats. After five rounds of redistribution, 11 candidates were successfully elected. In this election 58 votes were cast, meaning the quota for election was just 5 votes:

Image

Three candidates ran for the position of the World Assembly Delegate, in the first ever election for the role. Cerdenia, The Ambis and Saltmore were the candidates for the election. 56 votes were cast and therefore the quota for election was 29. Here are the final results:

Image

The Ambis was successfully elected as our new World Assembly Delegate! If you are a citizen of Thaecia, please help the transition process by endorsing The Ambis.

These elections were also accompanied by three referendums on constitutional amendments:

Here are the more detailed results of the first two referendums:

Thank you to Deputy Electoral Commissioner, The Islamic Country of Honour, and our Prime Minister, Brototh for compiling and presenting the results. Thank you also to Ttyxious for creating the election GIFs in this article.

A New High Court
Written By: Solittus

In the last few days, the long-awaited verdict of the State vs Xernon case was released. Initially, this was a dissenting ruling, written by Democratized Peoples, but following the assent of another Justice, Creckelenney, it became the majority judgement of the High Court of Thaecia. You can read this ruling here.

As a pre-emptive measure, the Cabinet signed a proscription document to prevent any known aliases of Xernon from entering Thaecia.

Following this decision, all three of the current members of the High Court resigned, leaving three vacancies to be filled. Our Prime Minister, Brototh, nominated the following people for these vacancies:

These nations were all confirmed by the House of Commons, and therefore the High Court has been filled once again. Sunipi has become the Chief Justice for this court, and very recently a new case, trying the charge of disobeying a subpoena has been brought. Sunipi's announcement has begun the trial process for this next charge against Xernon.

The Craze Continues!
Written By: Islonia/Altys

In our last episode of "Paradox Interactive Craze", we described how the games from the Swedish company first got traction in the region since its founding and the recent uptick in interest for the games. Since then, the Ministry of Culture has hosted several Paradox Multiplayer games with each their own story and fun.

The first one was a Stellaris game hosted by Altys which saw seven people play in total. From the start the Galaxy was divided between the Marian Theocratic Republic (Oligarchy ; ethics: Spiritualist, Xenophobe, Egalitarian ; civics: Materful Crafters, Meritocracy, Police State) played by Altys and the Kett Temple of Renewal (Megacorporation ; ethics: Spiritualist, Militarist, Egalitarian ; civics: Free Traders, Mastercrafters Inc., Gospel of the Masses) played by Toerana V. The two Great Powers of the Galaxy fighting over different ideals for Galatic Governance. The former in favour of a completely democratic intergalactic body, the latter for the creation of a Custodianship in charge of guiding the Galaxy against its numerous enemies. Ultimately the latter won more votes from other nations through bribery and grand speeches, allowing for their ally and self-proclaimed neutral, yet Kett-leaning, power, the CreckFish StarCorp (Megacorporation ; ethics: Egalitarian, Fanatic Xenophile ; civics: Anglers, Catalytic Recyclers, Gospel of the Masses) played by creckelenney to become the Galatic Custodian. However in a dark turn of events, the galatic nemesis of the Contingency [10x Crisis power] (read more about it here) arrived. Despite a combined galactic effort to put down the threat, the machine fleets numbering in the millions of fleet power were too much to handle. Exacerbated by colossal wastes of influence in the Galactic Senate's many heated debates and therefore the low numbers of alloy-producing worlds, the Galaxy was doomed to fail against a Crisis they could not beat.

The Second one was a Hearts of Iron IV (HOI4) game hosted by Toerana V. The game was set up to follow the historical events of World War Two, at least a the beginning. Totalling ten players, the game saw an Axis crushing victory over the allies. Early on, important battles and events of this game included the formation of Leo Belgicus (one of the names for the United Lowlands in HOI4) by Brototh who formed it from Luxemburg, the British Victory at El-Alamein and stalemate by the Italians preventing them from pushing into Libya, and the failed Portuguese Civil War which saw Toerana V play with a different ideology he aimed to. After that the game saw a relative lull until Japan played by Altys entered the war and immediately sunk the US Navy, giving him free reign over the Indo-Pacific and allowing him to go as far as invading the Panama Canal and bombing the US mainland. Yet there was still hope for lukaymmunki, playing the Soviet Union, for a German defeat in Operation Barbarossa and thus a possible allied victory may the UK be liberated. Sadly there was none of that. The Red Army was crushed in the first months of the war and saw the Stalin Line quickly breached as Finnish and German troops converged on Moscow while the Romanians headed for Stalingrad. The allies had all but lost, the game was over.

The Third one was another Stellaris game hosted by Altys which saw eight people play. Learning from past mistakes, the Galactic Powers decided to unite under one Federation--'We Like Robots'--and fight galactic threats together. This time the Galaxy's power distribution was both more centralised and less so. There were two clear Superpowers: The Grand Republic of Maria [GRM] (Republic ; ethics: Spiritualist, Militarist, Egalitarian ; civics: Parliamentarism, Materful Crafters, Meritocracy) played by Altys and the Cool Kett Kids (Republic ; ethics: Materialist, Militarist, Egalitarian ; civics: Technocracy, Parliamentarism, Distinguished Admiralty) played by Toerana V, who were the leading military and economic powers (with the GRM holding the second best technology in the Galaxy). Additional two Great Powers existed, the Consensus of Izk (Republic ; ethics: Fanatic Materialist, Egalitarian ; civics: Technocracy, Materful Crafters, Meritocracy) played by Quellestromania and who held the Galaxy's best technology, and the Creck Hegemony (Republic ; ethics: Fanatic Materialist, Xenophile ; civics: Technocracy, Materful Crafters, Diplomatic Corps) played by creckelenney who was a formidable Diplomatic Power throughout the game thanks to its many envoys, extensive diplomatic network, its good economy and strategic position in the north of the galaxy. The debates in the Galatic Senate were less heated, and no one aimed to create the Custodianship unless a galatic nemesis was to show. Which it ultimately did: The Extradimensional Invaders, known as the Unbidden [5x Crisis power this time] (read more about it here). The GRM was quickly chosen as Custodian due to its alloy production capacity far exceeding that of any power, thus allowing them to quickly create ships for the Galatic Defence Force, totalling near one million fleet power at the end of the game. This time the nemesis was defeated in around ten years, preventing doomsday on a galatic level. Other important events of this game included the Galactic Exposition, where each power was invited to showcase their expertise in many fields including technology, military, economic, cultural and spiritual might. Each expo was won by the GRM. Another important event was the awakening of two Fallen Empires (powerful AIs) which saw fear spread through the galactic powers of a possible War in Heaven--when two Fallen Empires fight each others for dominance of the Galaxy and drag the other 'normal' empires in their struggle. In order to prevent a divided galaxy, the Senate voted on declaring the Xenophobe Fallen Empire as a galatic nemesis and swiftly took them down. After that, peace was fully restored barring a minor inconvenience in the form of The Grey Tempest which was quickly dealt with.

Note that these summaries miss many details of what happened during these three games due to their length and the many people involved. Nevertheless, know that each were a lot of fun! If you yourself own Paradox games and want to play multiplayer games like these ones or simply share your own playthroughs, you can join Thaecord (Thaecia Discord) and hop on the #gaming channel! If you're lucky, you could catch us preparing hosting a game. Check #events for that! We tend to host one every week/two weeks.

A New Era for the Electoral Commission
Written By: Solittus

At the beginning of September, it was announced that Rayekka, our long-serving Electoral Commissioner, was resigning from the position. Ray stated:

“I am happy I have restored the electorates faith in the Electoral Commission for it to hold fair and free democratic elections.”

Our Prime Minister, Brototh, then thanked him for his service:

"I am excited to see where you go next and I would like to reiterate my statement that you are an incredible Electoral Commissioner and Thaecian."

Taking up this position, and its responsibilities as one of the most important roles in Thaecia, is The Islamic Country of Honour, who served as Deputy EC during Rayekka’s term. This nomination was subsequently voted on by the House of Commons, who confirmed ICH as EC with 9 MPs in favour, and 0 MPs against or abstaining.

Our Electoral Commissioner, Rayekka, was also nominated for the Grand Order of Thaecia by Snowflame, the Senate Chairman, last month. Snowflame’s nomination explained Ray’s impact on Thaecian history, from re-building the trust of the Electoral Commission to serving as a Thaecian Prime Minister. Brototh, our current Prime Minister, approved this nomination and the official reasoning given was for “Incredible dedication in the Electoral Commission, Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary, in essence founding Thaecia by shaping it into what it is today since 2019, and being an amazing, longlasting pillar of the OOC community”.

October By-Elections
Written By: Solittus

October has been a very busy month for the Electoral Commission, with two sets of by-elections taking place for a total of six seats in the House of Commons.

The first by-election took place following a mistake by Santa Marana leading to him losing citizenship for a period of time, and not re-joining before the World Assembly Update. Just days after, Sunipi forfeited his seat in the House of Commons to become Chief Justice of the High Court. Therefore, two seats were to be elected for this election.

A total of eight candidates ran for these two seats, which is a very encouraging number of citizens. The first seat was successfully won back by Santa Marana, and Lukaymmunki, ex-leader of PHX, won the second.

The second set of by-elections this month were triggered following three resignations from the House of Commons, and a successful recall petition against Chi Maley Islands, citing inactivity and lack of participation as the main reason for this recall. This election, for four seats all in the House, also had an impressive number of candidates: 11 to be specific.

Astonishingly for a by-election, a turnout of 60 citizens was achieved. The following candidates were successfully elected to the House, to serve the remainder of the term, which will end in the next few days:

Notably, Isopi, a member of ALT and a newcomer to Thaecia, was elected for the first time to the House of Commons.

Here is the full breakdown of results (click to enlarge):

And here is the old state of the House vs the new makeup of the House:

Thank you to Ttyxious for providing these GIFs!

The Thaecian General Elections are also approaching, featuring a Prime Ministerial Election, and elections for our legislature (the Senate and the House of Commons). The results of these elections will be covered in the next monthly update.

In other news, I would like to thank you all for your support to the Communications Ministry under my leadership for the last 4 months. I hope you have enjoyed reading the updates we release, and long may it continue!

The Assembly of Roleplay
Written By: The Ambis

L.R. 061, The Assembly of Roleplay Act, is one of Thaecia’s newest laws, which created the first true direct democracy establishment in Thaecia. Headed by the Leader of the Assembly, a position currently occupied by World Assembly Delegate The Ambis, it debates and votes on bills that have no actual impact on Thaecia, and instead serve as pure flavor. This past month they debated 4 bills, most of which were written by Of Altonianic Islands. The last bill was at vote for 12 days, and debated for 3 days, since no other thing was submitted. All legislation passed by the Assembly of Roleplay, which all citizens can get involved in, can be viewed here. The Assembly of Roleplay has not received new things to debate in quite a while. Could it be another experiment of Thaecia that slowly fades into irrelevance? Only time will tell.

Another thing coming up soon is the elections for Leader of the Assembly. Last terms candidates were Vedenmark, a former Chairman of the Senate, and an MP, The Ambis, the current World Assembly Delegate, Toerana V (Bow), the former Culture Minister, United Patagonian States, a current MP, and Oclade, a citizen, who ended up not even voting. With Bow and Vedenmark no longer citizens of Thaecia, doubt that Oclade will run again, and The Ambis confirming that he does not intend to run again, it leaves only the United Patagonian States as a former candidate, so who takes this position is anyone's guess.

A New Minister of Culture
Written By: Solittus

Following the departure of Toerana V from Thaecia, a new Culture Minister was nominated by Prime Minster Brototh. The United Provinces of Kerovia, who has served in the ministry in the past, was the nominee.

This appointment was subsequently voted on by the Senate, who posed questions to Kerovia. In terms of plans for the ministry, he explained “I've already discussed a few plans for the future with some people, but I can guarantee that we will have a Halloween Festival coming up soon” and “I do plan of following Toerana V with his weekly events; they worked great and got the region more involved which I love. I'll be releasing a schedule soon”. This nomination passed soon after with 5 Senators in favour, and 3 abstaining.

The 11th Thaecian General Election: 83 Votes!
Written By: The Ambis
Edited by: Islonia and Brototh

Thaecia has now held the region's eleventh general election! It is the greatest number of valid ballots cast in a Thaecian election, finishing at 83 votes cast. The elected positions of Prime Minister (the Head of Government and State), MP (x11) and Senator (x7) were open. Eighty ballots were cast for the Senate and the House, and eighty-three for the Prime Minister.

Despite pre-election polls, it was still largely up in the air as to who would claim the coveted position. Further adding to that was the report from The Islamic Country of Honour that 83+ people had voted in the election, an enormous number that was a delightful surprise to many, with candidate Islonia stating that “it’s a turnout victory.” In the end, the results were:

Marvinville / Rayekka - 50 Votes (60.24%) [Winner]
Islonia (Altys) / The Ambis - 31 Votes (37.34%)
Saltmore - 2 Votes (2.42%)

Alongside the Prime Ministerial election were the elections for Congress. Congress in Thaecia is a bicameral elected legislature comprising 11 seats in the House of Commons and 7 seats in the Senate. The House serves a 2-month term, and the Senate serves a 4-month term. The campaign trail was focused on the size of Congress, on the issue of whether the elected legislature should be abolished in favour of a direct democracy, and on changes to the recall system. Other issues included time passed scrutinising bills and the candidates' commitment to the position may they be elected.

This election came following the downfall of the Thaecian Globalist Party (TGP), rebranded into The Phoenix Party (PHX), overthrown by The Alternative (ALT) as Thaecia's second largest political party. The change indicates a loss of momentum in the direct democracy movement in the region.

In the Senate election, 12 candidates contested 7 seats. The results were as follows:

Democratized Peoples (IND)
New Central Iowa (PHX)
Pradera (FREE)
Pap Sculgief (IND)
Rayekka (IND)
Saltmore (ALT) [Incumbent]
Snowflame (FREE) [Incumbent]

In the House election, 17 candidates contested 11 seats. The results were as follows:

Angypt (ALT)
Isopi (ALT)
Mardis (FREE) [Incumbent]
Republic of Aiyland (PHX)
Snalland (PTD)
Santa Marana (FREE) [Incumbent]
Ska Siraind (PHX)
The Ambis (ALT) [Incumbent]
The United Patagonian States (FREE) [Incumbent]
Ttyxious (PHX)

A new Cabinet
Written By: Islonia

General Elections oblige, it was time to renew the Cabinet! The new Prime Minister, Marvinville, has made new Cabinet nominations over the last few weeks. These nominations have now been voted on and confirmed by the Senate. Therefore the following ministers for this term are:

  • Pap Sculgief as Minister of Domestic Affairs, with 6 ayes and 1 abstention.
  • Brototh as Minister of Foreign Affairs, with 6 ayes and 1 abstention.
  • Toerana V as Minister of Culture, with 5 ayes and 2 nays.
  • Islonia as Minister of Defence , with 6 ayes and 1 absentee.
  • Isopi as Minister of Communications, with 6 ayes and 1 absentee.
  • Snowflame as Minister of Legal Affairs, with 4 ayes, 2 abstentions and 1 absentee.

As for each ministers' plans for the term, while the general goal of the Cabinet is to follow the ideas of Prime Minister Marvinville, each have stated more in depth explanations of such goals or displayed additional ones to the Senate. These include, but are not limited to:

MoDA Pap Sculgief's pledge to further incentivise citizens to manually recruit and reward those who do so; as well as bringing additional focus from the Government to onsite infrastructures where he deems it to have a "lessen[ed] presence". Currently the Minister has worked towards updating the Government's dispatch network as well as manually recruiting and welcoming newcomers. He has selected Syrasia as his Deputy Minister.

MoFA Brototh's pledge to reform the Diplomatic corps who will "not just be mindless administrative drones", but instead as citizens "more involved in the FA process" as well as "giv[ing them]" a voice" in our region's FA. She is currently working towards this goal, with an expected announcement on the weekend of December 3rd. She has selected Islonia as her Deputy Minister.

MoC Toerana V's pledge to expand the ministry's reach in both activities and people, aiming to hold more events with a more diversified palette while giving an increased focus on the gameside part of the region which he admitted was his "weakest area" last term. Progress for these many goals are well underway as can be shown in the region's culture calendar. He has selected Ska Siraind as his Deputy Minister.

MoD Islonia's pledge to continue on the current trend he's set up last terms as Tagus while specifically stating he wishes the Thaempirial Army to "stay entirely independent from any other organisation", to train a new guard capable of leading the Army, and to have it be more "visible" to non-soldiers. Progress is well underway with the army now taking part in liberations from its own server, several soldiers being trained to become officers, and operation reports being publicised to the region. He has yet to select a Deputy Minister.

MoLA Snowflame's pledge to break the "status quo" (the ministry's relative inactivity outside of court cases) by proposing analysises of bills through the eyes of the Executive, comparing them to the Delegacy's WA Recommendations. He hopes to propose weekly reviews and to offer another activity for newcomers to take part in. He has yet to select a Deputy Minister.

Comms Isopi's pledge to keep the ministry running as it currently does with its monthly updates, while hoping to give an open platform for opinion articles and the like under the umbrella of the Thaecian Tribune. She has selected Astorius as her Deputy Minister.

The Treaty of Nakasako
Written By: Islonia

Following several days of negotiations and assent from the Thaecian Senate, it is the pleasure of the governments of Thaecia and the Alstroemerian Commonwealths to announce the Treaty of Nakasako. Named after the capital of the Takeda Shogunate, one of Thaecia's most powerful nation throughout its many seasons of roleplay, the treaty represents the formalisation of several years of relationship starting with the failed yet obviously not unsuccessful Consortium project. It codifies a diplomatic, cultural and defensive relationship between two signatories whose interests regularly align; therefore acting as a natural expansion of our partnership.

The Treaty can be viewed here.

Signed,

Thaecia:
Marvinville, Prime Minister
Brototh, Minister of Foreign Affairs
Islonia, Minister of Defence, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs

Alstroemerian Commonwealths:
Ill'haress Haaton Prime, Delegate & Empress of Japan
Particle, Delegate of Yggdrasil
Tostandia, Delegate of Eientei Gensokyo
Mocha, Delegate of The Glorious Nations of Iwaku

November Hunger Games
Written By: Islonia

More than a year following its last Hunger Games, the region relaunched its recurring suvivor event as a monthly occurrence. In addition to the rebirth of the regional tradition, it was decided to invite friends from partner regions to take part in the games as a way to get to meet new people from overseas!

This month Aros Elyium was invited. The total number of tributes was 36, though it is estimated the number of players were more around 40 due to last minute arrivals or accidental double entries of the same tribute by host Islonia. Same goes for the tributes' gender, which were left at random due to him not changing them. The live event lasted a little over a hour, with ultimately Auravas winning the show.

The highlights of the night were Creckelenney's killing spree at the beginning of the Hunger Games (setting off a bomb that killed 4 tributes at once) then immediate shutdown the night after at the hands of four other tributes; and Sunipi's Boris Johnson tribute who kept doing suspicious actions which almost led him to win the game before he stepped on a landmine and died, thus ending up second place.

For a recap of the events, see:

Legislation Passed in November
Compiled By: Islonia

The following pieces of legislation have passed both Houses of Congress and have been signed into law by the Prime Minister:

Additional Information
Compiled By: Islonia and Brototh

  • The Thaempirial Army has reached a combined force of 43 members: 20 active soldiers, 13 reserve soldiers, and 10 militiamen.
  • The last officially hosted Paradox Game was a Stellaris multiplayer on Friday 25th! Sadly everyone died to Gigastructural Engeering's "The Blokkats" endgame crisis.
  • Thaecia switched its vote from abstain to in favour of Repeal: "Condemn Ever-Wandering Souls" in solidarity with The Free Nations Region which was subject to an attempted delegacy bump for also voting in favour of the resolution.
  • In the Roleplay, the Arbëri-Rhyssuan war sees South Selenia join Rhyssua's side following repeated violations of her sovereignty by Arbër, joined swiftly by the United Kingdoms. After a short series of battles and bombing campaigns, Arbëri General Luderin led a coup against the government and has sued for peace to the Selenian triumverate. The Paragonian Civil War sees an alliance of Koelasian nations come together to enact a blockade around the region, pressuring all sides to come to the negotiation table following years of brutal fighting.

Chasing is Officially Cancelled | 157 Hit Tag Run

Sometimes in life, something becomes a bit too commonplace. A bit old, a bit boring, a bit lame. When this happens, dear reader, there is only one option.

Cancel.

Chasing has dominated major updates for a number of days, weeks and even months now, with TGW & Libcord flexing their muscles in the NSGP discord server and in these very forums, particularly their victories over The Black Hawks. So confident had they become in their abilities to kill tag raiding by stacking updates with numbers rarely seen before, that they were surprised when EPSA successfully got hits even when outnumbered 3:1.

Chasing had become the old, boring, lame order of the WA updates. It is therefore the pleasure of the Thaempirial Army to announce that a coalition from Thaecia, Lily, Europeia, The North Pacific and The East Pacific has officially cancelled chasing.

To quote the one and only Tim-Opolis in Libcord's staging channel:

I mean we're just getting [censored] by taggers lol

So whilst Libcord may yet ride high on more seemingly-empty victories against The Black Hawks, let it be ever looming over them that when the other orgs come together for a tag run, we can and will beat them to the curb :) :) :) :)

Thus, dear reader, I leave you to revel in the glorious list of 157 regions tagged by this operation.

A great thank you to EPSA, the NPA, the ERN & Lily for coming out to join us tonight. It was great to get back into the swing of some tags & I'm sure we all had a lot of fun! Here's to more fun updates like this one :)

Similarly, teasing aside, a great showing from Libcord tonight. Whilst we had enough numbers to keep 2 teams going, y'all made winning remarkably difficult for the team you were chasing - thanks for the great update!

The January 2023 Elections!
Written by: Republic of Aiyland
Contributions: The Ambis, Ttyxious, Marvinville and Islonia

The January Elections have come and gone. 43 nations voted, which is a significantly smaller voter turnout compared to the last general election in November. The positions of World Assembly Delegate and all 11 seats in the House of Commons were open.

The Ambis and Cerdenia were in the running for one of the highest government positions in Thaecia. Cerdenia had attempted to appeal to the citizens of the region but in the end The Ambis was chosen as the deserved winner, though it was still a narrow election, with Ambis winning by only 7 votes. The results were:

The Ambis - 25 Votes (58.14%)
Cerdenia - 18 Votes (41.86%)

About 2 weeks after the election, The AmbiS resigned as WAD. Marvinville became interim WAD but resigned a few hours after, meaning, at the time of writing, Thaecia does not have a World Assembly Delegate.

Alongside the WAD election, there were also elections for Thaecia’s lower house in its bicameral elected system, the House of Commons. The Phoenix Party (PHX) were completely ‘wiped from the board’ after publicity issues led to the party losing all their seats in the HoC. Just like the Senate, the HoC is now with an Independent plurality meaning that, for the first time since the party’s creation, the Alternative Party now holds as many seats as the Freedom Party in the House of Commons.

16 contestants contested all 11 seats. The elected nations are listed below. Incumbent nations are listed in bold.

Actias (IND)
Angypt (ALT)
Brototh (ALT)
Experthady (IND)
Mardis (FREE)
Snalland (IND)
The Ambis (ALT)
The Southern Balkan Islands (IND)
The United Patagonian States (FREE)
Toerana V (IND)
Zon island (FREE)

I have taken the liberty to add a parliamentary map of the House of Commons, which can be viewed via this link.

January Hunger Games
Summary Version Written by: Islonia
Longer Version Written by: The Ambis

Once again the Hunger Games returned to Thaecia. This time were invited her longstanding friends from The East Pacific, the Alstroemerian Commonwealths and The Free Nations Region. The total number of tributes was 48, though it is estimated the number of players were more around 50 due to last minute arrivals or Islonia forgetting to enter some tributes. The live event lasted a little over a hour, with ultimately Marvinville (under the alias King Marv) winning the show.

With so many tributes the night promised to be interesting. And so it was! The highlights of the games include this topical moment; the Tory Party sponsoring the Hunger Games; a volcano randomly killing 13 people, including an entire mongol horde (never fight a land war in lava...) but also Sunipi's Boris Johnson and Creckelenney, the two menaces of the monthly Hunger Games; and finally Twitter sponsoring the Hunger Games, with Elon Musk even killing two people the next night only to die a day later, killed by Creckelenney's secret cat alter ego.

If you wish to read the longer version, a dispatch of all versions of the modern version of the Hunger Games (since November 2022) can be found here.

Culture News
Written by: Toerana V
Edited by and Contributed: Islonia

Across December and January, a lot has happened in the land of Culture. We started off the month strong, with The Ambis starting off the month by taking us on a journey in our Gameside Choose your Own Adventure.

We decided to get into the Holiday Spirit over Christmas, giving the WFE a Christmassy makeover just in time for NationStates to go down, saving us all the pain of having to see the interesting makeover. Praise be the Administrative Team.

On New Years Eve was hosted a party with people from The East Pacific, The Free Nations Region and individual members from other regions who had nothing planned. Notable events include Libertanny/Serge getting drunk, Among Us taking over the drawings in Gartic Phone, accidentally playing the uncensored version of Cards Against Humanity, and more.

As for the Paradox Games; in Hearts of Iron IV, Cydoni’s Ethiopia held out against the Italian onslaught, eventually rolling them back into the Ocean, the British, lead by Altys took back the 13 Colonies (and a bit more) while Santa Marana’s Australia canibalised the navies of the nations conquered by Britain, ending the game with the second largest navy. Over in Europe, a dominant Snalland in France rolled the recovering German Empire, while in Asia the Guangxi Clique plotted to take over China (and badly lag the game with over 1500 Divisions deployed).

Heading into the Stars, these months also had their fair share of Stellaris Games, most notably the one hosted on December 17th for the NS Christmas Charity event which saw over 230 $US of donations. In January, we also saw newcomers to the Game Snalland and Obalostan destroyed by fanatical warmongering Aliens that host Toerana V accidentally force spawned. All in all, a good first game.

Time travelling back to the Middle Ages, we also saw Islonia's first Crusader Kings III Campain where his character was slightly past the regular points limit. While he united Ireland and Brittany into one realm with a hybrid culture, over in Britain Brototh (England) and Toerana V (Alba/Scotland) formed the Empire of Brittania, who then tried to woo the Irish into joining. Meanwhile, over in mainland Europe Creckelenney's Bohemia found itself annexed by a renewed Frankish Empire which collapsed not even a decade after.

Moving on to the ages of discovery in Europea Universalis IV, we saw Islonia's Britain and Creckelenney's Spain competing for colonial heemony while newcomer to the game Sma Cyrillic's Savoy went on to unify Italy. Naturally all collectively dunked on the French which played musical chairs with their personal unions. Over in Eastern Europe the Commonwealth ended up eating Muscovy and Hungary, becoming n°1 Great Power and scaring everyone else with their massive army.

Legislation Passed in December
Written and Compiled by: Santa Marana

During December both The House of Commons and Senate passed several bills. These bills passed the Senate and became law.

The February 2023 Elections!
Written by: Ttyxious

A very short month saw a very short special election. The Senate AND the World Assembly Delegate during a special election?!?!? This should be interesting!

The one-seat Senate race saw Aiyland, New Ikesandria, Obalostan, and Santa Marana go all out! We saw blood, sweat, and tears throughout the campaign! Finally, after two rounds of battle, the dust cleared and the winner was announced. Santa Marana won the seat with a final vote tally of 17 votes!

Final Results of the Senate Race [Quota: 17]
santa_marana: 17*
obalostan: 9
republic_of_aiyland: 7
new_ikesandria: 0 (eliminated after the first round)

If the Senate race was a battle, the World Assembly Delegate race was a bloodbath! Domination, destruction, chaos; there was no end to the madness! And then the end happened. After one round, Rayekka left the arena unscathed as the victor with a final vote tally of 24 votes!

Final Results of the World Assembly Delegate Race [Quota: 17]
rayekka: 24*
cerdenia: 7
saltmore: 2

All jokes aside, it is great to see many candidates during a special election and I hope to see you all run again in the next election!

February Confirmed Justices
Written by: ttyxious

Congratulations to newly confirmed Chief Justice the_islamic_country_of_honour and Associate Justice islonia on their appointments to the High Court!

Throughout the newly confirmed Chief Justice the_islamic_country_of_honour’s appointment debate in the House of Commons, he brought up past experiences as a Senator, an Electoral Commissioner, a Thaecian Bar Association member, and a previous Deputy Justice.

The newly confirmed Chief Justice mentioned their ability to be impartial and unbiased as they were as a previous Electoral Commissioner and promises to recuse himself from any capacity of involvement in any judicial action besides the bench. Finally, he brought up their observations and interactions with a previous High Court bench in relation to election verification, preservation, and protection.

Final Vote Count for the_islamic_country_of_honour's Confirmation:
Yeas: 10*
Nays: 0
Abstains: 0

After Chief Justice the_islamic_country_of_honour’s confirmation, the House of Commons brought up islonia’s appointment.

During the newly confirmed Associate Justice islonia’s appointment debate in the House of Commons, The Ambis asked him how he will be able to serve the Justice role with his confessed burnout and recently taking another role. islonia responded by bringing up his views on what the bench means and about having previous court experiences while also stating he should be able to complete the role as a Justice and could even write court’s writing if he was needed to. He promised to admit if the job got too much and would resign.

Final Vote Count for islonia's Confirmation:
Yeas: 8*
Nays: 1
Abstains: 1

Honestly, a lack of legislation is a pretty good indication that the status quo is working out well enough that you don't need to arbitrarily shake anything up. More people should see this as a positive, IMO.

This is what I'm going to tell people when they ask what i've been doing about the bills I promised 3 months ago.

Midterm Elections

Written By: Toerana V

This May, Thaecia helds its Regularly Scheduled elections for the House Commons and World Assembly Delegate (colloquially referred to as the "Midterms"). This election saw incumbent World Assembly Delegate Rayekka run for re-election, and 13 candidates compete for the 11 House Seats.

The Candidate Saxe Weimar Eisenach (SWE) was disqualified from both of their races due to a loss in citizenship during the election.

World Assembly Delegate
Incumbent Rayekka, alongside brand new Vice Delegate nominee Republic of Aiyland ran against long term region member Saltmore, and their Vice Delegate Candidate Angypt, and Saxe Weimar Eisenach.

33 Votes were cast, with Rayekka and Aiyland winning a landside victory, securing 24 of the 33 votes, followed by Saltmore's 6, with the disqualified SWE securing 3.

House of Commons
Once SWE was eliminated, the race saw 12 candidates for the 11 seats. 33 Votes were cast, creating a Quota of 3.

The following were elected, in order of election:
Round One
The United Patagonian States [FREE]
The Ambis [ALT]
Republic of Aiyland [PHX]
Zon island [FREE]
Angypt [ALT]

Eagle Country [IND]

Round Two

Governor and Successor

Written By: Toerana V

With the introduce of Frontiers and Strongholds, regional founder Andusre transferred the position of Governor away from the regional founder nation of Thaecia Founder, and onto their main. They also appointed a successor, Lemonadia, making the following statement:
Lemon has been appointed successor of the Governor position per the new powers granted from the F/S update on NationStates. Lem is an awesome guy who has been with us from the very start - he's trustworthy, he's easygoing, he's smart and he's reliable. This is just an extra layer for security in case we are faced with the very unlikely event of my main nation CTEing or being deleted, but there are few people if any I trust more to hold such a position of huge trust and responsibility 🍋💛

Legislation Passed in May

The following pieces of legislation have passed both Houses of Congress and have been signed into law by the Prime Minister:

Date: 7 July 2023

The Free Nations Region
Thaecia

Joint Statement on the Signing of the Cerulean Compact

Thaecia and The Free Nations Region have enjoyed a long and prosperous alliance and friendship. Since the inception of the old Consortium, our regions have grown closer individually and as a group with our good allies of The East Pacific and The Alstroemerian Commonwealths. Although the Second Convention of Lausanne exists to bind the Lausanne regions together, the individual relationship between our regions has always been strong and worthy of individual maintenance. Lausanne brought us together, but it does not define us. This is no more evident than with the recent signing of our bilateral treaty, the Cerulean Compact. The signing of this treaty is not just a codification of our commitment to our diplomatic relationship but also a promise of future cooperation between our two regions as we look forward to prosperous development side by side.

You can read the full treaty here.

Signed,

The Free Nations Region
Weatherwand, President
Castenor, Minister of Foreign Affairs
Waste Land Zero, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs

Thaecia
Marvinville, Prime Minister
Brototh, Minister of Foreign Affairs
